00:00This is the Peugeot E5008, a purely electric family SUV with up to seven seats.
00:06And what else it's got to offer? We'll find out right now. Welcome to REF!
00:19The 5008 is not a new car, it has been on the market for a little while
00:24and it is available either as we have it right here as an e-version but also as a hybrid version.
00:38The e-car in its base version was not exactly really sporty, it had some 157 kilowatts, 230 horsepower
00:47which was okay for a car of that size but it wouldn't really give you a nice sporty feeling.
01:03And now Peugeot added a new version, the dual motor which has an additional
01:08motor at the rear, 325 horsepower, 239 kilowatts and with that it will make the dash from zero to
01:16100 kilometers an hour in around six seconds, which is way faster than the other versions.
01:27The e5008 can be had with two different battery sizes, either 73 or 97 kilowatt hours.
01:35Unfortunately, the big battery can only be ordered with the long range version that has the 230 horsepower
01:49electric engine at the front but then you will have around 668 kilometers of purely electric range which
01:56is really good. For our all-wheel driven version you only get the 73 kilowatt hour battery pack and then
02:03you will have a range of around 467 kilometers.
02:13You know how they say French cars are typically very comfortable but on the other hand they therefore
02:21lack sportiness. First things first, the 5008 is a really comfortable car. A family SUV that will
02:29take you anywhere at least within the maximum range on a very comfortable basis but then this version we
02:37have right here with the dual motors and the 325 horsepower is sporty as well. Of course you will
02:45not want to drive into curves too fast, it's still an SUV, but the acceleration definitely is a blast.
02:52As with many other electric vehicles, charging from 20 to 80 percent using a fast charger takes around 30 minutes.
03:04The interior of the e5008 is really appealing, at least to me. Everything looks quite futuristic,
03:12you have like these shortcuts that you can adjust, those are touch screen operated by the way, and then you
03:19have that huge central display that will give you the information of speed limit, the speed you're driving
03:27and so on on the left side and everything else on the right side. Apart from that, typical Peugeot, the small
03:37steering wheel. I remember when I first saw that in, I think it was a 308, I wasn't really a fan of it. I
03:46thought, why is the steering wheel so small? But by the time, it somewhat grew on me and I really like it by now.
03:53This is a very different sensation while you're driving and I have to say, I'm a friend of that.
04:05What is not that good to me is that part right here, it somewhat makes you feel cramped in the interior.
04:14I don't know if it really was necessary, don't get me wrong, it looks good, but it also takes up some place.
04:21Maybe the buttons could have been put somewhere down here, but then on the other hand,
04:26at the end of the day, this is personal preference.
04:32You have that nice illumination in the background which also shines down from below the infotainment
04:38screen and that makes it look like it's floating, so it's really good looking.
04:48The space in the back is ample as you would expect it from a car that is almost 4 meter 80 in length.
04:53You have a lot of leg room left, the seat in the front is set to my height and you have a lot of head
04:58room left despite the fact that the car has a panoramic glass roof.
05:07The seats are also very comfortable. You have adjustments for the climate back here and of
05:12course also USB sockets down there and some nice little nets to hold whatever you might want to
05:19put in there. By the way, the seat position can also be adjusted, so you can in theory put them
05:26up to the front to make more space for the people in the third row. Let's put it to a comfortable
05:34position. I think like that would be still okay and let's check out the third row.
05:44As expected, even though I put the seat quite a bit to the front, there is basically no leg room back
05:52here. These seats are made for either rather short people or for children, but for those it's absolutely
06:03okay. They are even quite comfortable, so basically you can say this car is not suited for a big group
06:10of friends but for a family. With the rear seats up, you have around 260 liters of cargo space. If you fold
06:21them down, you're left with around 750 liters and folding all rear seats down, you have more than 1800 liters,
06:28so a lot of space to transport anything you like.
06:39The 5008 is based on the STLA medium platform from Stellantis and it basically is a bigger scaled
06:51version of the E3008, which you can also see if you look at the interior and the front. It's
06:58basically the same car, but it is bigger to the rear and that's why it offers up to three rows of seats
07:06and more than 16 centimeters in additional wheelbase, which you definitely feel if you have a seat in the
07:12second row. The dual motor version of the E5008 has four different drive modes, Eco, Normal, Sport and
07:26four-wheel drive. And depending on which one you choose, you will have different levels of power coming
07:32to the wheels. For example, in Eco mode, the car will only deliver 157 kilowatts, 230 horsepower,
07:40in Normal mode, it's 230 kilowatts, and in Sport and all-wheel drive mode, you will have the full 239 kilowatts.
07:53What also changes are the wheels being driven depending on the mode. In Normal mode, depending on your
07:59driving style, the car will choose whether or not to add the rear motor. All of that happens
08:05automatically. As a driver, you do not have any saying in that.
08:15Sport and all-wheel drive are basically the same modes. The only difference is in all-wheel drive,
08:21you will have 50-50 power distribution between front and rear, and in Sport mode, you have 60-40 in
08:28favor of the front wheels. What I really like about the 5008 is the recuperation. You can adjust it
08:40with the shifters back here behind the steering wheel. Three different levels are available,
08:50and in the strongest one, you can move the car in one-pedal drive, because once you take your foot
08:57off the accelerator, the car will decelerate, or you would even have to say brake quite a lot,
09:03which is, of course, very useful in city driving and stop-and-go traffic.
09:14Peugeot offers up to eight years, 160,000 kilometers of warranty on the new E5008, which is really good,
09:25and that also includes the battery. So, if you plan to buy such a car, you won't have to worry about
09:31anything. Everything is taken care of by Peugeot.
09:39As it seems to become standard nowadays, the E5008 is equipped with chat GPT, so you can talk to your
09:47car like you would to a friend that knows a lot of things. From time to time, the answer might not be
09:54100% correct, but that is true for both the AI and sometimes also that one friend.
10:02The entry-level price for an E5008 is around 55,000 euros in Germany. The dual-motor version,
10:14however, is, of course, a little more pricey. The launch edition can be had at a little more than
10:2064,000 euros. By the way, the dual-motor setup can also be had for the smaller E3008, and then the price
10:28starts at just under 60,000 euros. Despite its length, the 5008 has a really small turning circle,
10:41which makes it very maneuverable, especially in the city. I'm not sure whether this is also the case
10:48for the hybrid version, because usually the small turning circles result from the electric engines
10:54needing less space and less mechanical parts at the wheel. Summing up my 5008 experience, I have to say,
11:09I enjoyed driving the car. It is very comfortable, but can also be sporty due to the new all-wheel-driven
11:16version. Of course, it has its price, but it also has a lot of standard equipment. So, if you're looking
11:22for a family-friendly SUV that takes you from A to B quite comfortably, with a decent range and a very
11:29good look, then this might be worth considering. The sporty design, space and a variety of drivetrain
11:37options make the Peugeot E5008 a very good road trip companion. Things that aren't optimal,
11:43though, include the cramped driver's seat, the lack of physical buttons for the aircon and a somewhat
11:48inflated price tag.
