00:00OK, so why do you think Israel chose to carry out these attacks when the next round of U.S.-Iran
00:08nuclear talks was just about to take place? It was supposed to happen on Sunday. Of course,
00:12it didn't happen. Why do you think Israel chose to act when it did?
00:16Speculation, of course, on my part, but there's many who believed that Israel did not want to see
00:21another nuclear agreement between Iran and the United States. They were opposed to the 2015
00:27agreement. This was looking to be very similar. The only question that they couldn't resolve is
00:33whether Iran would be allowed to enrich uranium in Iran. The United States didn't want them to.
00:40There was an allowance for that in the original agreement, but only to the level that would be
00:45needed for civilian energy. The U.S., of course, pushed for this multinational consortium where
00:52you can bring in enriched uranium that's already been enriched somewhere else. Iran wasn't going
00:57for that. So it might have been that Israel was concerned that Iran would fold on that,
01:03if you will, and get to an agreement that they didn't like. And I think that is a possibility
01:08that they went ahead and took the strike, because at least from my knowledge in public reporting,
01:13it wasn't clear that Iran had made the determination to get a nuclear weapon
01:17and was on the precipice of that.
