We ask people in Birmingham how they feel about paying the TV licence. Is it still fair in 2024—or is it time for a change? What should happen to the licence fee in future?

00:00TV licence, yes. I mean, that's something that we all have to pay.
00:03I do feel that maybe we should get more for our money on that.
00:07I think that pensioners not being able to get their TV licence free now
00:13has had a massive impact on some people that are struggling as it is.
00:17Some people only have televisions for comfort throughout the day
00:20and don't actually speak to anybody.
00:22So I do think maybe they need to refocus on some of those actions as well.

00:27I bought a TV licence. All my flatmates told me not to,
00:31that you can get away with not paying for it,
00:33but I didn't really want to feel like a leech, so I bought it.
00:38To be fair, the TV channels, it's not worth buying a TV licence
00:43for the regular TV channels, but there's so many ads.
00:49My husband is a fan of football, so we're always paying everyone's additional money
00:53just to pay something, just to watch something extra.
00:56That's all. Horrible.
