00:00A new artificial intelligence tool has been launched by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
00:05designed to help doctors interpret chest x-rays more quickly and accurately.
00:10The software is able to detect up to 85 potential conditions in just minutes,
00:14including serious illnesses like lung cancer and respiratory infections.
00:19It's hoped this will speed up diagnosis, allow patients to begin treatment sooner,
00:23and improve patient safety across the trust.
00:25Leeds Teaching Hospitals carries out more than 135,000 chest x-rays every year,
00:31placing significant demand on clinical staff.
00:34The AI tool is being described as a co-pilot for healthcare professionals.
00:38Doctors still make the final decision,
00:41but the technology can flag abnormalities that may otherwise be missed on an initial reading.
00:46One early example, highlighted by the clinical lead for the project,
00:49saw the AI correctly identify an issue that could have easily been overlooked,
00:53As well as helping to detect serious conditions,
00:57the software is also expected to reassure patients whose x-rays show no abnormalities,
01:02offering peace of mind for them and their doctors.
01:05The project is part of the Yorkshire Imaging Collaborative,
01:08a wider region-based initiative bringing together imaging services across the area.
01:13It's being supported by the NHS AI Diagnostic Fund,
01:16which has committed £21 million to 11 imaging networks nationwide.
01:20Although still at the pilot stage in Leeds,
01:23early signs suggest the technology is already having an impact.
01:27Doctors say it will not replace them,
01:29but will sit alongside supporting busy teams to provide faster, more accurate care.
01:34The trust says continued evaluation will help determine
01:36how widely the software could be rolled out in the future.
01:40It marks one of the first major uses of AI in routine diagnostics in our region.
01:44You post aeline parfois down to it,
01:47and you can't install it above the same thing you can admire for,
01:48or find one of the most important areas in the open the public.
01:51You can actually use the platform to provide quite lovely,
01:53and reach out for florida to provide an impact on fly and faraway,
01:54and chooserat worker to beled by the craftsman cross-bound reflex.
01:56For more and more,
01:58to be part of the same practice,
