Verona (Italy): A priceless art piece titled ‘Van Gogh’ Chair, adorned with hundreds of Swarovski crystals, was shattered by a tourist at the Palazzo Maffei museum in Verona while attempting to take a photo.
According to CCTV footage shared by the museum, the man ignored warnings and sat directly on the fragile chair for a picture, unlike the woman with him who only pretended. As he lost balance, the chair crumbled beneath him. The pair waited until security staff left the room before making the move and fled the scene right after causing the damage.
The artwork, created by artist Nicola Bolla, was later restored. The museum expressed gratitude to police, security, and restoration experts for saving the piece.
Social media users strongly criticised the tourists for their ignorance and disrespect, calling for accountability.
