Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke to CNN on Sunday about the anti-ICE demonstrations.
Transcript
00:00Well, I do support the president's decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles,
00:05because as you can see in the days that followed, it wasn't just Los Angeles.
00:10Their riots began to emerge in other cities, but I think a strong show of force, securing
00:17peace in the streets of L.A., sent a very important message all across the country.
00:23With regard to activating the Marines, I have read that.
00:28I mean, obviously, we have a policy of posse comitatus.
00:30We don't use our military against our civilians.
00:33But military personnel are able to secure federal assets, federal buildings.
00:41And I am confident that the administration going forward will make sure, and frankly,
00:47the United States Marine Corps will make sure that any deployment here domestically is consistent
00:54with that great tradition.
00:56MR.
00:57Well, as I said, there's ñ I visited a lot of embassies around the world ñ so have
01:02you, Dana.
01:03And Marines are deployed to protect American embassies all around the world.
01:09We do site protection.
01:11The Marines do a brilliant job at that.
01:14Thanks for mentioning my son.
01:16We're awful proud of his service, as well as my son-in-law, who's in the U.S. Navy.
01:20And, look, I just have a lot of confidence in our military, a lot of confidence in our armed
01:28forces.
01:29And I'm sure the ñ I'm sure the administration will respect that great tradition that we use
01:37our military for proper forces to defend our interests, to defend our nation.
01:41And, look, I just have a voice to do all of our efforts to defend our nation.
01:42Thank you, novamente.
01:43Thanks, sir.
01:44We will try to defend our nation.
