00:00First of all, I would like to welcome you to Prime Minister Starmer.
00:14It's a very important relationship for Canada.
00:17So, in general, it's our heritage, our governance.
00:21We have a common history, a shared values.
00:26But it's a foundation for the future.
00:30The future of artificial intelligence, critiques,
00:35defense, security, prosperity for all our citizens.
00:41It is a great pleasure, and I think entirely appropriate,
00:45that my first official bilateral in Canada with a head of government
00:51is with Prime Minister Starmer.
00:53Canada and the United Kingdom, of course, share history.
00:56We share values.
00:57We share governance.
00:58We are in Parliament inspired by the Westminster tradition.
01:04But it's much, much more than heritage.
01:07This is a foundation of prosperity for all our citizens going forward,
01:12and a prosperity based on those shared values expressed through the future.
01:19Artificial intelligence, critical minerals, new partnerships in security and defense,
01:25but all in the pursuit of sustainable prosperity for our citizens.
01:29And if I may, just on a personal level, I've learned a lot from the Prime Minister over the years.
01:34I've been a great admirer of his and the values that he's bringing to bear to his government and to internationally,
01:42particularly as we go to Kananaskis for the G7, are those that we will be promoting.
01:49Well, it's a real honor and a privilege, Prime Minister Mark, my friend,
01:55to be the first of your bilateral visits.
01:59And we've known each other for a number of years.
02:02And that mutual respect, I think, has been at the cornerstone of our relationship.
02:08And I think I'm right in saying it's the first time a British Prime Minister has been here since 2018 for a bilateral visit.
02:15So I'm very pleased to be able to be here before that.
02:18The history and joint working of our countries is phenomenal.
02:23For years we've worked together as Commonwealth members,
02:28as independent, democratic, sovereign countries working alongside each other
02:34on issues of security, defense, trade, the economy, you name it.
02:38And we think alike, we work alike.
02:42And I think that's not just a reflection on the past.
02:45I think it is very much needed in the here and now
02:48and how I think we can forge our future together as we go forward from here.
02:53It is particularly timely with the G7 because it is the opportunity under your leadership at this G7
03:00for us to work with our colleagues and other leaders on the most important issues of the day.
03:07Obviously, the conflict with Israel and Iran is centerpiece and this provides the opportunity to talk to our co-leaders about the fast-moving situation
03:22and to make our strong case together that there must be de-escalation of this conflict in the interests of the region and, of course, the world.
03:33And so I look forward to working with you, not just in this bilateral where we'll have the opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges for our two countries as we go forward.
03:43I'm so pleased to see Miss Majesty the King here opening your parliament.
03:49That was a real piece of history.
03:52And we get the opportunity now to discuss so many issues here today.
03:56So thank you so much.
03:57Great. Thank you.
03:59Thank you all.
