00:00Hi, everyone. Kato just came out with a really excellent new N-Scale Metra train set, and I'm
00:23going to show you how to set up and operate it using the firm's M-1 starter track set.
00:30The Kato Metra set includes an MP36PH locomotive, two gallery coaches, and one cab coach.
00:42The M-1 track set includes an oval of Kato unitrack, a power pack, a power supply, and
00:51a handy re-railer. The M-1 set also includes this handy N-Scale guide, so let's set up
00:58our loop of track, install our transformer, and start running trains.
01:06Kato unitrack features nickel-silver rails on molded plastic roadbed. The roadbed includes
01:11painted ties and ballast detail. Another neat feature of the Kato unitrack is the way that
01:18it goes together. Each section of track includes roadbed joiners and rail joiners integrated
01:25in one unit. To assemble the track sections, simply place them on a flat surface and slide
01:31them together until you hear the click. It's that easy, so let's assemble the rest
01:38of our track. The next thing you need to do is to install the track power wire into the
02:01terminal section of track. However, you need to make sure that you do this step before you
02:07attach the section of track to the rest of your loop. The terminal section has these cutouts
02:12in the roadbed for the wires to pass through. The wires will plug into a socket hidden underneath
02:18this section of track. With the wires installed, we can go ahead and install this last piece
02:23of track. The next step is to connect the wire into the socket in the back of the power pack. Next,
02:40we'll install the power supply. Now all we have to do is plug in the power supply and we're ready to run
02:50trains. The power pack includes this pilot light, which tells you whether or not the unit is on. It also includes a
03:01direction switch, which is really nice because it has three positions, not only forward and reverse, but also a
03:07brake position, which allows you to stop the locomotive. And there's also a speed control dial.
03:13Now that we have the loop of track set up and the power pack installed, it's time to get the trains on the track.
03:24Now, N-scale trains can be a bit tricky sometimes to put on the track because of their size, and that makes Kato's
03:33re-railer a handy addition to this track set. Simply put the re-railer on top of the track, make sure it's locked into place,
03:41and then slide your cars down the ramp. It's that easy.
