00:00At 10 years old, Charlotte has likely had eight or nine children who have been taken from her,

00:04so she never had the chance to be a mother.

00:09I just wanted to give this cow the life that she always deserved in a beautiful retirement,

00:14and of course have her baby be born in sanctuary.

00:17She was a 10-year-old pregnant cow, unable to walk.

00:22A dairy farmer asked if we would take her. I said yes, absolutely.

00:27We brought Charlotte down here.

00:30When Charlotte arrived, she had a very severe foot infection.

00:34She spent the majority of her day laying down in the field in pain.

00:38We called the vet out immediately.

00:42Not only was her life in danger, but her baby's life was in danger too.

00:49Charlotte started to get better by the day.

00:52She was eating more.

00:56She stopped isolating herself.

00:58We were so relieved.

01:01Our vets warned us.

01:02They said it is very possible that Charlotte will reject the baby.

01:06Her baby was born around 5.30 a.m. Valentine's Day morning,

01:16and because of that, we named her baby Valentino.

01:21The second that Valentino was born, Charlotte was the most amazing mother.

01:26She was licking her baby.

01:27She was licking him.

01:32Making sure that he was nursing.

01:35She did this beautiful hum, so she would very softly hum to him to let him know that she was there.

01:42it really was beautiful

01:47valentino was born ready to take on the world it was really wonderful watching him do all of his

01:57firsts like eat his first bit of hay sleep in the pasture for the first time as he gets older his

02:06personality really shines he started doing this thing where he would hide in his hay ring we would

02:14walk out into the pasture and i would have a heart attack because i couldn't find valentino and then

02:18all of a sudden i would see these little ears poking out from the hay ring he would be sleeping

02:25inside the hay ring on a fluffy pile of hay he was just this little spunky bundle of joy

02:33charlotte and valentino have really showed us firsthand the profound relationship that a

02:42mother and her child can have we're all animals and even though we look different on the outside

02:47we're the same on the inside and if we all looked unconditionally like animals do

02:52our world would be a much better place
