00:00I'm here on Blanford Street for the Proudy Preloved event which is part of
00:04Sunderland Pride. The event has seen the various charity shops on the street
00:08decorate their windows in pride themed colours and also preloved clothing. As
00:14you can see we've got Age UK's window here, lots of bright colourful clothing in
00:18the window there. If we move across the street here you will see we've also got
00:23the British Heart Foundation shop which again has got the rainbow flag in the
00:27window there. Moving down the street you can see lots of colourful decoration, lots
00:32of colours, lots of rainbows, lots of people out and about. I've had live music on, there's
00:38also been food, live entertainment. Here we've got FACT which stands for
00:44Fightening All Cantors Together. Again another bright colourful display in the
00:48window here. Moving down the street here you'll see again we've got you see a
00:53lot of colourful decoration, there's been food vendors out, there's lots of
00:57rainbow designs here. Again making our way down here. The Pride event is going to be
01:05lasting the full month of June. It's been organised in partnership between Sunderland
01:11Bid and also Out North East. Out North East as you are behind organising lots of the
01:18Pride event here in Sunderland. You can see there we've got the Out North East little
01:27Settle Pier which has been speaking to people today, giving out free sweets, having a chat
01:32with people. We've also got you can see the Salvation Army store coming up here which
01:37again has got its own Pride display. Let's look what they've got on offer as well.
01:47So again you can see there you've got the rainbow themed dress. As I say, just all part of Sunderland
01:57celebrating Pride. Okay can you just tell me what the proudly pre-loved events all about them please?
02:05So it started off with the charity retail sector and it is a growing sector across the UK but particularly in Sunderland as well.
02:12We do have a lot of charity retailers in the city. We need to make sure that they have the
02:17right share of the retail mix and the right reputation within the retail mix. So it started off with that,
02:23working with the university, working with the charities and then we talked about well actually
02:27we need a theme to kind of get people to work together on and we also work with Pride and
02:34with Out North East really closely. June is Pride Month. It seemed like the logical thing to do was
02:39to bring it together around this fantastic theme and celebrate it in the month that we do that in Sunderland.
02:44And it's been a fantastic day. So many people have turned out, members of the LGBTQ plus community
02:51and our allies, they've come up to the stalls, they've had conversations, they've wowed at this new
02:55installation here in Blanford Street. It looks absolutely amazing and the plans that Sharon and
03:00Sunderland Bidd have had for this street are going to be breathtaking. But today has been about
03:04bringing communities together and I think we've done that with Pride.
