The airport can be a stressful place for everyone, so here is what you need to be aware of about Manchester Airport before you jet off on your summer holidays.
00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson Betts and today we're looking ahead to the summer.
00:04Now it's obviously a very exciting time for all because not only is the sun out, but the kids and uni students are off on their breaks and more families will be jetting off on a family holiday.
00:12Before people can strip down to their swimsuits and start sipping on margaritas, they've got a big challenge to contend with.
00:18It can cause a massive amount of stress to people every day. Many call it their worst nightmare, many a sleepless night has been caused by it, many wish they'd just stayed home and many regretted buying their sixth £8 pint.
00:28I'm talking, of course, about the airport. So before we break it down to you, I spoke to some people on the street this week to describe the emotions that Manchester Airport in particular can conjure for them.
00:37I'm a panicker, you know, I'm like, oh, where's my passport? You know, I'm like, oh, I'm always thinking, oh, they're going to stop me, they're going to stop me.
00:43I do get a random cook search a lot at the airport.
00:45Yeah.
00:46It was once late for my flight because it was just a really long queue or something and they halt the plane for me. So I've got nothing but phrases to say.
00:56Oh, what a great place. Coming back's a different story with the airport. But going...
01:00Yeah, I love going.
01:01Yeah. I like everything I like getting early.
01:02Burger King.
01:03Early driving, net Burger King.
01:05£40 pound Burger King.
01:06They've got that new thing so you don't even have to take your laptop out anymore. Just put it in and send it through. Basically.
01:12Now that we're aware of some of the problems and the thoughts of the people on the street, let's go through our little guide and hopefully answer some questions.
01:18Now, let's start with getting there. My honest opinion is that trains and trams are your best option.
01:21They're cheap, frequent, reliable, and avoid you having to spend too much on parking or stress about traffic getting you there late.
01:27Trains are unfrequently from Piccadilly and there are also options from Victoria. So do a bit of research and see if that works for you.
01:32But obviously, if there's a big group of you with a lot of luggage, driving might be necessary. And there are a few parking options available.
01:38Firstly, absolutely book through your website in advance. It's much more expensive if you don't and you could end up having to turn to some of the independent car parks nearby, some of which have issues with security.
01:46There's lots of information on the Manchester Airport website. But basically, if you fly for more than a week, book long stay parking, mid-stay if you're going for around a week and anything less than that should be short stay parking.
01:56Manchester Airport has three terminals. Your booking should tell you which one you need to head to.
02:00But if not, a quick Google search to find out which terminal your flight provider uses should fix it.
02:05Most airlines use spaces in specific terminals rather than being spread across the airport. So it should help.
02:09There are also signs just inside from the airport tram and train station that should point you in the right direction.
02:13Trying to work out timings can be stressful too, particularly when you factor in the busyness of the summer season.
02:19The Manchester Airport website suggests arriving two hours before your flight if you're only travelling a few hours, but three hours early for long haul flights.
02:25Security can be the most stressful thing with constant confusion on what's allowed.
02:29Basically, liquids have to be under 100ml and have to be in containers of that size too.
02:33In previous years, electronics and liquids have had to be removed from your bags.
02:37However, now, certainly in Terminal 1 and 2, they will allow you to leave your bag on touch with new scanners, no longer requiring this sort of separation.
02:44Now, planes fly from the airport all across the world, with long haul flights to Bahrain and Dubai featuring prominently amongst many of the listings,
02:51while many Brits will be favouring sunny European spots such as Alicante, Hamburg or Lisbon.
02:55Let us know where you're jetting off to this summer and follow Manchester World for more.
