Brøndby Football Club Seeks Youth Development Ties With Taiwan

One of Denmark's leading football clubs, Brøndby IF, has come to Taiwan to explore cooperation opportunities with the country's youth sports programs.

00:00One of Denmark's premier football clubs is in Taiwan looking for cooperation opportunities.

00:06The club in question is Brunbury Football Club, and specifically they're looking to

00:10bring their youth development program, known as Masterclass, to Taiwan.

00:15The Brunbury Youth Development Program has been observing Taiwan's youth football scene,

00:20getting a feel for what the sport is like in the country.

00:23So the trip here is because we want to get some change of knowledge between FC Kaweikens,

00:30Taiwan's football, and I hope that we could maybe give some inspiration so we can see Taiwan's

00:36football also grow about grass foot football.

00:40We can see more kids, I hope so, will play football in Taiwan.

00:44The person who brokered this connection between Brunbury and Taiwan is local football coach

00:49Johnny Nielsen.

00:50Nielsen started his coaching career in Taiwan by challenging the country's traditional

00:54coaching concepts, which he believed focused too much on intense physical conditioning.

01:00In a country where other sports like baseball and basketball are more mainstream than football,

01:05Nielsen believes the sport has its place here.

01:07I've seen a lot of changes.

01:09When I first came here, I think there were like five clubs in Taipei.

01:12I think now there's over 100 clubs in Taipei with kids playing football.

01:16So it's growing, it's getting there, it's getting better.

01:19Today's conference doesn't celebrate any official cooperation plans yet, but it does

01:24mark Brunbury's presence here in the country.

01:27Taiwan is a place where the team would like to bring its brand of winning football development

01:31to the local youth in a bid to elevate the country's football standards.
