00:00This Boeing quality inspector had raised concerns about the crashed Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
00:04However, he died by suicide on March 9, 2024, amid ongoing legal battles with Boeing.
00:10John Barnett worked for Boeing for more than 30 years before retiring in 2017.
00:14In the days before his death, he had been giving evidence in a whistleblower lawsuit against the company.
00:19In 2010, John was employed as a quality manager at Boeing's North Charleston plant,
00:24the same plant that builds the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
00:27John alleged that Boeing eliminated key quality checks,
00:31allowed substandard or even scrap parts to be installed
00:33and ignored serious defects in the aircraft's oxygen systems.
00:37He also alleged that management pressured staff to cover up safety issues
00:40to meet production deadlines and falsify inspection records.
00:44The catastrophic crash of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with 242 people on board
00:48has once again brought John Barnett's claim to the fore.
