03:07up with Google and OpenAI.
03:09Stay tuned to Tech Today as we'll get you all the updates from this mega-event on next week's show.
03:15OpenAI has launched its first international education platform in India, partnering with
03:26the India AI mission under the IT ministry.
03:31As part of the launch, OpenAI and India AI signed an MOU to expand AI learning across the country.
03:39The new OpenAI Academy in India will offer AI training for students, developers, teachers
03:45and government officials in English, Hindi and soon more regional languages.
03:51The program includes online courses, expert workshops, hackathons in seven states and aims
03:57to train one million teachers in generative AI.
04:00OpenAI is also offering $1,000,000 in API credits and will invite hackathon winners to its global
04:08day-of-day.
04:09This marks a major push to make AI skills accessible across India and enhance the India AI mission.
04:16Microsoft is bringing AI video generation to everyone with its latest offering.
04:32Through Bing's mobile apps, users can now access a free text-to-video feature powered by OpenAI's
04:39SORA model.
04:39It lets you create short five-second vertical videos using just a simple text prompt, perfect
04:46for quick stories or social posts.
04:48You get 10 videos free, after which Microsoft reward points are required.
04:53The company said that the desktop access is rolling out soon.
04:57This marks another major step in AI content creation, becoming mainstream and user-friendly.
05:08The chaotic leadership shake-up at OpenAI in late 2023 is being turned into a Hollywood film.
05:16Titled Artificial, the movie is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios.
05:23Andrew Garfield will reportedly play Sam Altman, who was abruptly fired and rehired within five
05:29days.
05:30Monica Barbaro and Yura Borisov are in talks to portray Meera Murati and Ilya Sudskeva.
05:36The firm promises to unpack the power struggles behind one of the most important companies
05:41in the AI world.
05:51All right, picture this.
05:52The guy who built ChatGPT just hired the guy who designed the first iPhone and together,
05:59they're cooking up something that might just kill your smartphone.
06:03Now, I am not making this up.
06:05This is official.
06:06Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and Johnny Ive, the man who designed the first iPhone and many
06:12other successful Apple products are making a mystery device.
06:15Now, the thing is, is this a phone?
06:18A wearable or something that you have never seen before?
06:21That's what we are here to discuss on our big tech story.
06:24Because this is big news, as this device could change the way we use technology.
06:30Now, remember the way the iPhone changed the smartphone industry?
06:34Could this device bring about a tech revolution?
06:37Let's find out.
06:38A deal worth 6.5 billion, one of the biggest in tech history.
06:59Sam Altman is betting big on this new partnership.
07:04And Sam isn't just trying to be the next Steve Jobs.
07:08He's trying to redefine how we even think about using AI.
07:13And for that, he doesn't just need software, he needs hardware.
07:20And who better to call than the guy who literally designed the iPhone?
07:26This is made possible with the acquisition of Johnny Ive's startup, Love From,
07:31and this mega project is being called I.O.
07:35Is that a cue from Apple?
07:38Anyway, this isn't just a product.
07:41It's going to be a philosophical shift.
07:43A way to make AI feel human.
07:50Now, why is Sam so interested in Johnny Ive?
07:53What's the big deal about this man to spend so much on him?
07:56Johnny Ive is the visionary behind some of the most successful products launched by Apple.
08:02He joined Apple in 1992 and by 1998, the man changed everything with the Macintosh, giving
08:11it a completely new design.
08:20He worked closely with Steve Jobs and came up with the iPod in 2001 and then the big launch
08:26of the iPhone in 2007.
08:29He didn't stop there.
08:31He was instrumental in the launch of the iPad in 2010 as well.
08:35Each of these products set the trend for the industry.
08:38It was a cultural reset and over the years, many smartphone and gadget companies have garnered
08:45success by trying to replicate the design of Apple products.
08:49This is the impact that Johnny Ive had and he's already started building for OpenAI.
09:06The first one we've been working on, I think, has just completely captured our imagination.
09:16You know, Johnny called one day and said, this is the best work our team has ever done.
09:20I mean, Johnny did the iPhone.
09:21Johnny did the MacBook Pro.
09:23I mean, these are like the defining ways people use technology.
09:28It's hard to beat those things.
09:29Those are really wonderful.
09:31But in 2019, Johnny left Apple and ventured on to start his own design company called Love
09:37From.
09:39But with this new partnership, the iPhone designer is stirring up a lot of excitement among the
09:45tech community.
09:46But here's the thing.
09:51Making AI hardware is no walk in the park.
09:54Many tech giants have tried this and failed miserably.
09:58Take for instance, the Google Glass project.
10:01When it came and we saw the previews, we all thought this would change the world and it turned
10:07out to be a flop.
10:08And more recently, remember the human AI pin?
10:12The $700 wearable assistant that was also hyped but didn't live up to the expectations.
10:17It was marketed as a smartphone replacement but struggled to replace even a sticky note.
10:24The story isn't that different for this other gadget, the rabbit R1.
10:29A supposed AI assistant in your pocket.
10:32Even this didn't go mainstream and struggled to capture the curiosity of its users.
10:37It looked cute, grabbed the attention of many tech influencers, but after using it for a couple of weeks, people got bored and ditched the product.
10:47So clearly, there is no AI hardware that's ruling the roast and I feel that's why Sam is looking to enter this space because I guess he truly believes that he can make the AI hardware that's just not for show but also practical in many ways.
11:08And we are not saying all AI gadgets have had a tough time, the Meta AI glasses are finding a lot of takers globally and that success has translated to the glasses launching in India as well.
11:21As a wearable, it's intuitive and has a lot of practical uses.
11:27But the device OpenAI is planning is expected to go beyond just an AI communicator.
11:34While many of Johnny's designs were success stories, he also had a list of flops.
11:40So we need to take that into account that a lot is riding on his shoulders for him to get it right for OpenAI.
11:47Now, since the company is looking to drive profits with this venture and get some returns from the $6.5 billion that they've invested, this device needs to be a hit, at least for Sam's sake.
12:00But what do we really know about this device that Sam and I are planning?
12:06Now, insiders say that this might be a screenless AI companion and it will more like be a clip-on or something with voice and vision.
12:15Now, this could be a device that sees the world like you do and responds in real time.
12:21Now, prototypes reportedly feature a very minimal design, no screen and intuitive interaction.
12:26Now, something like that complements your phone but doesn't replace it.
12:32That's the idea.
12:34Well, one guy for sure knows how it will be like because Sam has been using a prototype of this device and here is what he thinks.
12:42Johnny recently gave me one of the prototypes of the device for the first time to take home and I've been able to live with it.
12:49And I think it is the coolest piece of technology that the world will have ever seen.
12:54Whatever it is, it needs to be simple and sophisticated like the iPhone was because we all loved it, right?
13:00Now, the idea should be an ambient AI which is always there, always aware and never in your face.
13:07Remember how the iPhone just changed the way we interacted with smartphones, it needs to be similar
13:12because remember, the iPhone had multi-touch, a music player, a web browsing platform, all of this bundled into one device.
13:19So, this AI device should be something similar, revolutionary.
13:24This AI device by OpenAI needs to replicate that utility without being overwhelming.
13:30It should be able to seamlessly interact with you and other devices you use
13:34and should not restrict you to a closed ecosystem.
13:39So, when can we expect a final product from OpenAI?
13:43Now, reports suggest that we might actually see a product as early as 2026
13:48and also that Johnny Ives' big comeback into tech after Apple, this is big for him.
13:55Now, this means everyone is looking forward to the design wizard to give another hit.
13:59So, the expectations are also very high.
14:02But here's the thing, I don't think OpenAI wants to sell you just a device.
14:08They really want, like, you to have the experience, the future of interaction
14:12and building something like this will take time.
14:16However, I would not want to be that relaxed
14:19because remember what happened with DeepSeq and OpenAI, that entire fiasco,
14:23how DeepSeq took the entire US tech industry down.
14:27Now, the Chinese are always launching something innovative in the AI space
14:31and Sam does not want another DeepSeq fiasco for himself.
14:35So, he really needs to be quick with this one.
14:39So, what do you think that this device should look like?
14:42What should it offer and how much should it cost?
14:45And do you think that the Sam and Johnny partnership
14:48will be able to revolutionise the way that we look at the tech industry?
14:52And will this device be, like the iPhone, will be able to replicate the iPhone's success?
14:57We would love to hear from you because remember,
15:00this 2026 era, because it's just a couple of months away,
15:04we're not that far.
15:05So, we can expect something very revolutionary in the months to come.
15:15Honestly, if I could design a compact flagship smartphone with a big battery,
15:20this is what it would look like.
15:22This is the OnePlus 13S.
15:24Now, this one has some serious AI steroids inside of it
15:28and priced very smartly, under 50,000 rupees.
15:30You also have phones like the iPhone 16E and the S25
15:35from Samsung competing in this compact flagship segment.
15:39But does the OnePlus 13S have what it takes to challenge these big players?
15:44Here's our review of this one, the OnePlus 13S.
16:00Let's start with the design.
16:03This is one of the handiest OnePlus phones we've used in years.
16:08And I mean that, literally.
16:13It's thin, it's light, just 185 grams
16:17and thanks to its 6.32 inch flat display and compact width,
16:21this thing disappears into your jeans' pockets,
16:24like how my salary disappears in the first week after payday.
16:28But here's what surprised me.
16:30Even with the smaller size, it feels premium.
16:34And this green silk variant feels like velvet met satin.
16:39Just don't let it slip.
16:41Plus, that new plus key, it's a total game changer.
16:47Okay, not really.
16:49Because we've already seen this tech on the iPhone since 2023.
16:53And now, OnePlus has added it too.
16:56We can map it to multiple functions,
16:58but the one which we felt the most relevant
17:00is waking OnePlus's new AI.
17:03But more on that in a second.
17:10This thing runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
17:13And trust me, it shows.
17:15I threw everything at it.
17:17Gaming, split screens, endless social scrolls,
17:21and it didn't break a sweat.
17:25The new vapor chamber cooling system inside
17:27means temperatures stay chill
17:29even during marathon BGMI sessions.
17:32With support for up to 120fps gameplay,
17:35the smaller screen experience might not appeal to all,
17:38but it can take the load.
17:41What's wild is the battery.
17:435,850 mAh in a phone, this compact.
17:47I actually got close to three days on average use.
17:50Three days.
17:54That's unheard of in compact flagships.
17:56And even when I needed use,
17:5880W Super Vogue charging
17:59had me topped in under 30 minutes.
18:03Let's talk about the camera now.
18:05You've got a 50MP main shooter here
18:07that delivers crisp, well-balanced shots.
18:10Low light, it holds up.
18:12Portraits, surprisingly detailed.
18:15Now, yes, there's no ultra-wide camera here.
18:17And initially, I missed it.
18:19But it wasn't a deal-breaker.
18:21The telephoto, AI-powered edits made up for it.
18:25Plus, I'm not taking landscape shots every day.
18:28I'm mostly snapping food,
18:30faces for my Insta stories,
18:32so I'm good.
18:33Now, let's talk about the headline maker,
18:35the AI.
18:36Because OnePlus is really pushing this one.
18:39This new AI assistant saves anything you swipe upon
18:42to AI search that digs through your PDF,
18:46notes, and even summarizes WhatsApp texts.
18:49It's surprisingly useful.
18:52You also get VoiceCry,
18:53a real-time transcription of calls on phone and WhatsApp.
18:58The translation is not that accurate
19:00if the audio isn't clear.
19:02And of course,
19:03the OnePlus 13S brings Circle to Search
19:05and Gemini integration,
19:07making Google's AI tools
19:08feel like they are part of the device.
19:11All right, verdict time.
19:24Here is the bottom line.
19:25The OnePlus 13S, by the way,
19:27is a compact flagship
19:28that doesn't really cut corners.
19:30You're getting top-tier performance,
19:32a premium glass built,
19:34and metal also included.
19:35And useful AI features, by the way,
19:37which not only help you understand the phone,
19:40but also improve the way that you use your phone every day.
19:44And that's very important.
19:45Now, this built-in AI
19:46is going to enhance your overall productivity,
19:48but all of this is powered by a massive battery,
19:52which is also quintessential in a phone
19:54that is so compact to hold in the hand.
19:57It's almost like fitting a V8 engine into a go-kart.
19:59And kudos to the OnePlus team that they have done this.
20:02Now, in terms of pricing,
20:03it really hits the ball out of the park.
20:06And having all of these specifications,
20:07the battery, the processor,
20:09under 50,000 rupees,
20:10I think they have really done it really well.
20:12And this is serious competition, by the way,
20:13for the likes of the iPhone 16e
20:15and the Samsung Galaxy S25,
20:18if you are looking for a compact flagship.
20:21Because a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset
20:22in such a compact form,
20:25I think it is really great.
20:27And OnePlus might have just cracked the code
20:29when it comes to flagship-level performance
20:32in such a compact form factor.
20:40And while the OnePlus 13S
20:42might be the compact flagship
20:44that fits easily into your pocket,
20:46what about something that fits into your backpack
20:48and is your binge-friendly companion?
20:52I'm talking about the OnePlus Pad 3.
20:55Now, this is the latest tablet by OnePlus
20:58that's made for your work, place, roll, repeat,
21:01that kind of stuff, right?
21:02Because that's what you do.
21:03So, let's have a look.
21:04First impressions.
21:05It's sleek.
21:06That's an all-metal body
21:08that feels solid and premium.
21:10And yet, somehow, it's lighter in the hand.
21:12And somewhere around 700 grams,
21:15which is great.
21:16It's perfect for carrying around.
21:17Or if you want to just pretend
21:19that you're working and carry it into your office,
21:21it's great for that.
21:22And also great for watching
21:23your general Netflix content.
21:25Now, let's talk about the display a bit.
21:2713.2 inches.
21:29Now, that is big.
21:30But the thing is, it's crisp and bright.
21:32Great for gaming, your movie nights,
21:34emails, and those endless YouTube sessions
21:36you have when you're watching these conspiracy videos
21:39till 2 a.m. in the morning.
21:40Now, for outdoor use,
21:42I would have liked an anti-glare coating
21:44because while it's not a deal-breaker,
21:47sometimes when you're using the pad outside,
21:48might be a problem.
21:50Now, under the hood,
21:51the pad comes with a powerful processor,
21:54and it's no slouch.
21:55This is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset,
21:59which is great for multitasking,
22:01smoothly switching between applications,
22:03even if you're running Google Docs, Spotify,
22:06and even playing demanding games
22:08like Diablo Immortal,
22:09which is absolutely seamless.
22:11I've played the game.
22:12It runs perfectly.
22:13Now, you cannot play for longer sessions
22:16because of the weight.
22:17It is a bulky laptop,
22:19which is why it's better to get a folio stand,
22:21which is basically a cover, always recommended.
22:24Also, if you're already using a OnePlus
22:26or an Android device within the ecosystem,
22:29the sync is really strong
22:31because you'll be able to mirror the phone,
22:33transfer documents, transfer images,
22:35and it will be absolutely seamless.
22:38Now, there is an accessory,
22:40you know, which I really wanted to mention,
22:42and which is the keyboard.
22:43Now, this accessory connects really well
22:45with the battery magnetically.
22:48Yes, kind of transforms it
22:50into a mini productivity machine,
22:52but I won't replace it with my laptop.
22:56Again, I am reiterating,
22:57this is not a replacement for your laptop,
22:59but look at it as more like an extension
23:02of your smartphone just with a bigger display.
23:05You can type, edit, you know,
23:06take your Zoom calls, do a lot of the things,
23:09but the magnet situation with the keyboard,
23:11that's a bit iffy right now.
23:13It's not the strongest grip,
23:14and that is something that I feel
23:16OnePlus really needs to work upon.
23:18Now, the battery life is really impressive on this one.
23:21More than 12,000 mAh,
23:23and that one really kicks in
23:25when you want to use it for long hours.
23:27Now, I have been squeezing it
23:28for more than two to three days on a single charge.
23:31I've been streaming, note-taking,
23:33and doing whatnot,
23:34and it's been my, you know, companion.
23:36It's been great with me.
23:37Now, when it comes to juicing up,
23:39when you want to charge it,
23:41it also supports fast charging,
23:43which is great because this is 2025.
23:45I really do not want to wait for my devices to charge,
23:48and OnePlus has taken care of that.
23:50You even get the charger in the box.
23:52So, what is really the OnePlus Pad 3?
23:55It's a slick, lightweight,
23:57all-metal entertainment engine,
24:00and which you can also use for productivity
24:02because multitasking and all of the tasks
24:04that you run on it are absolutely great.
24:07Yes, the magnet problem is kind of an issue,
24:10so we can deal with that if you are okay with it.
24:12The anti-glare on the screen, again,
24:15if it's not a deal-breaker,
24:16it's absolutely fine for you,
24:17but it nails the basics,
24:19and I really liked it
24:20what the OnePlus Pad 3 can give us.
24:23So, if you are looking for a high-end tablet in the market
24:26that, again, competes with the likes of the iPad,
24:29gives you that kind of functionality and productivity,
24:32the OnePlus Pad is really a good option for you to have,
24:35and you should consider it
24:36because it's been priced really, really well,
24:39and the Android ecosystem works for you.
24:41So, the big mystery,
24:46is this the beginning of the end for smartphones
24:50as we know them
24:51because OpenAI is building the next super gadget,
24:55or is it going to be just another overhyped tech
24:58that might end up becoming a $6.5 billion paperweight?
25:02No one really knows for sure right now,
25:04but Sam knows, and Johnny Ive,
25:06both of them are combining
25:07to make this gadget a possibility,
25:09and that could just completely change
25:11the way we look at technology.
25:13Either way, the AI device war has officially begun.
25:16Until then, keep your phones close
25:18because they might just not be there in the future.
25:22I'll see you next week with a brand new Tech Today.
25:25I'll see you next week.
