'social gaming venue' set to open inside Isle of Man seafront hotel
Transcript
00:00I've walked in here and the last time I was here it was a bit of a building site, but here we are now in a new area.
00:05Can you tell us a bit about what this place holds and what people can expect?
00:08Yeah, well you're now standing in the new Luki Darts venue, which is located in the Palace Casino.
00:16What we've basically done is we've taken a piece of the casino that wasn't really used.
00:20This area we're standing in used to be a restaurant many, many moons ago, and where the darts boards are used to be the kitchen.
00:27And for many years it had just been a storeroom.
00:30So we've taken that space back and created the interactive darts space and then added the shuffleboard and the pool, which is sort of behind me as I'm speaking.
00:40And we've created a games arcade.
00:43And where did this idea all come from? Because you've obviously got Luki's Bar already that seems to be popular, seems to be bringing people in.
00:49But this type of area, is it something you think the other man needed?
00:52Yeah, I think so.
00:52So I think the thing that we've learned from the Luki's Lounge Bar is that young people these days, they tend to want an experience.
01:00You know, the food and the drink is part of a wider experience they want.
01:04So you see it in the UK with things like Flight Club and these sort of themed bars, that they want something extra in their evening out.
01:14It's not so much about staying out until 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning like it used to be.
01:17It's more now about packing an experience in.
01:22And so that was really the genesis of this.
01:24We thought, well, we could run it in association with the bar.
01:27We didn't have the space in there to do it, but we had the space in the casino.
01:30And they're both, you know, they're adjacent to each other.
01:32So it kind of worked.
01:33Well, it looks really good.
01:33And I can tell you, some people do still stay out until 2, 3 o'clock in the morning.
01:36Not me, honestly.
01:38But no, just finally then, what type of, when people walk in here, they can book the darts, obviously, out.
01:44They've got the shuffleboard here, the pool tables.
01:46Just tell us a bit about how they can get in touch and how they can find out more.
01:48Yeah, so our new website for the Lukey's Lounge Bar goes live tomorrow.
01:53And that will include in it a booking page for the games and the description of all the games and the pricings and the timings and so on and so forth.
01:59So that will be the way that I think most of the bookings will come in.
02:03People can just come into the casino, as long as they're over 18, obviously, and they can go to the cash desk and they can book on the night.
02:11But obviously that depends upon demand.
02:13If the spot's already taken, then we can't, we'll be able to accommodate them.
02:18So I'd always encourage people to book.
