00:00Eagles aren't really meant to be in the water.
00:03When I got in the boat, I had my hand on her chest and her heart was just pounding.
00:08I'm a river guide here in Nova Scotia.
00:12There's just huge eagle population here and there's always eagles hanging around the river.
00:16Once the tidal bore came in, five of them took off and one of them remained, which was kind of weird.
00:23All of a sudden, the water comes in and it hit her.
00:26She was just trying to jump up a little bit. It looked like her feet were almost stuck in the sand.
00:36And then all of a sudden, the tidal bore actually knocked her in the water.
00:39And we're like, okay, this is definitely not normal.
00:44She was trying to flap to get to safety, getting hit by waves after waves.
00:48So you could see her energy was diminishing, slowing down.
00:51Once we got into a little bit of calmer water before the next section of waves,
00:59that's when we were able to crawl her and pull her over the water.
01:06Definitely some nerves in the beginning. You could see how big her talons were.
01:11Couldn't communicate, but she definitely let me know what she liked and what she didn't like.
01:14She did bite me when she got in the boat pretty good. Powerful, powerful jaws.
01:28That's a pretty good bite.
01:29She was just trying to protect herself, but I was hanging out with her for about an hour.
01:33She was actually surprisingly calm. As long as I didn't make any sudden movements,
01:40she might look back at me every once in a while. As long as I stayed pretty cool, calm and collected.
01:4510-15 minutes into the ride, her heart rate slowed right down.
01:50I was going through trying to call places to come help.
01:53And she was just chilling. She was fine.
01:55The most beautiful guys you've ever seen probably spent a good part of the trip home just staring into her eyes.
02:06It was cool. The rescue is a good feeling.
02:09When you get up close and personal to an eagle like this, very thankful to get to experience this
02:15once in a lifetime eagle rescue. To be able to give back and help out, it comes around full circle.
02:22I think a lot of people were really surprised how calm she was.
02:28The raptor took her back up the lodge. We didn't know the extent of her injuries.
02:33After the x-rays, they found out that she kind of suffered ligament damage.
02:38She was also dressed, hanging out. She didn't waste any time scarfing down the fish.
02:43We knew that we had to let her go. We'll get to re-release her as soon as she's strong enough to take off.
02:49I want to make sure she's okay. You know, almost like a protective parent.
02:53We have an invasive interest in her for sure. We wanted to see her back out in the river again,
02:57doing really well. When we release her, we'll be happy because we know that she'll be out there.
03:02It's really hard to put the experience in words. One of the best hours of my life.
03:22you
