00:15In response to ongoing demonstrations in downtown Los Angeles, a nighttime curfew has been declared
00:21by Mayor Karen Base.
00:23The curfew will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will cover about one square mile
00:28in the downtown area.
00:30The mayor stated that the curfew may remain in place for several days, depending on the
00:35situation.
00:36Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell explained that, due to rising tensions in certain areas,
00:42the curfew was necessary to help maintain public safety and protect property.
00:47Over the weekend, several incidents of concerning behavior were reported in the city.
00:52Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump made strong remarks during a speech at Fort Bragg,
00:58North Carolina, referring to the protesters using critical terms.
01:03His comments came shortly after the deployment of U.S. Marine forces to Los Angeles, marking
01:09the first time in over 30 years that active military personnel have been sent to assist in
01:14a civil situation.
01:16The Pentagon's guidelines encourage the military to remain neutral in political matters.
01:21A Fort Bragg spokesperson noted that service members had been advised not to react during
01:26the President's Address.AS demonstrations continued to spread across various parts of
01:31the city.
01:32More than 4,000 National Guard members have also been deployed.
01:37Some local officials have expressed concerns that certain federal-level actions may be intensifying
01:42tensions, and they have appealed to a federal judge in San Francisco to limit the involvement
01:47of military personnel and local enforcement.
