00:08The latest Eurostat data is mixed news for the media industry.
00:14The rate of authors, linguists and journalists across the EU is going down.
00:19There are now fewer than 870,000 workers in these fields, a drop of 2.5% compared to 2022.
00:29The sharpest fall was reported in Portugal over 29%.
00:34The Netherlands too lost a significant portion, minus 17%, with Austria following close at minus 15%.
00:44But it's not all downhill. Numbers skyrocketed in Luxembourg, Latvia and Lithuania.
00:50In overall terms, Germany leads by far, with nearly 240,000 professionals in this field,
00:58way ahead of second place France, with fewer than 93,000, followed by Spain, Italy and Poland.
01:06Despite losing around 13% of its workers since 2022,
01:12France remains the country with the most publishers in the EU, nearly 24,000.
01:18The number across the whole block has grown by 9% since 2021.
01:24The highest growth rates were reported in Portugal, Malta, France and Bulgaria.
