00:00Newcastle United are reportedly in talks with Burnley over a deal to sign goalkeeper James Trafford for a fee in the region of ÂŁ30 million.
00:08If Trafford joins the Magpies, he will be set to compete with Nick Pope for the number one spot.
00:14Yeah, speed is key for us, and I've reiterated that many times internally, speed is key because we have to be dynamic,
00:22we have to be ready to conclude things very, very quickly because good players don't hang around for long.
00:26So that's always been my thought and my message on recruitment, really, because you can have a period where you think you've got time,
00:36but then you can look around very quickly and realise that that time's elapsed and you've missed opportunities that you won't get again.
00:41So that's what we'll be trying.
00:45But obviously the reality of that is it's not always in your hands, but we'll be doing our best to do things early.
00:49I think if he's already established, I think the wages and the financial package becomes difficult for us, speaking honestly.
00:59So as much as we would want, of course it's much easier for me to bring in a ready-made, established, world-class player.
01:08But I don't think we've done that since I've been here because we haven't been able to financially.
01:11And Regis Labrice has made clear that Sunderland want talented players as they prepare for life in the Premier League starting in August.
01:20The first transfer window of the summer is set to come to a close, but in the second, Sunderland will look to bring in plenty of new additions.
01:28It was impossible to predict the outcome, really.
01:32But I think we spoke together about the feeling I had about this team last season.
01:40They played well, they played fantastic football sometimes, for example against Southampton, they won 5-0.
01:48So it was clear that it was possible to play a very good football and to be efficient, very dominant, but at the same time they were so inconsistent.
01:56So with ups, but many downs.
01:58So my job was, and I think it's the job of a coaching staff, a manager to give the methodology to bring this consistency.
02:08And it worked well.
02:12And it worked well.
