00:00are there patterns and toxic relationships that you see over and over again and the cases that
00:10you take on there are patterns so I've created a taxonomy it's basically four categories and
00:17we see this playbook over and over and over again psychos ass pervs and trolls every single case
00:25that we get is at least one of these but this case has a little bit of all four categories
00:32it's often said that true life is stranger than fiction the facts of this case make that statement
00:36spot-on super strategic and malicious ass Angela deserves what is waiting for her for suffering
00:42and death is the only way acted anonymously troll they were using a VPN to hide their tracks and
00:50a lot of what happened had this dark sex undercurrent which you know ticks the the perv box
00:57dead babies beheaded children psycho ticks that box they were engaged but now he's moved on months
01:04later somebody has stolen your fairy tale it's the jealous X and when you're fed a story and it takes
01:10root in the media it's very hard to get away from that oh my god to this day I still can't get justice
01:16when they're looking at the same evidence I'm looking at that becomes reality the perception
01:21becomes reality when it comes to love betrayal is the death of a thousand dreams
01:28and the unraveling of countless lives you can spend years picking up the pieces examining them
01:38rearranging them digging through the past to make sense of it all navigating through my personal
01:47heartbreak took me back to my roots as an investigative journalist hi I'm Elizabeth
01:51Chambers with chamber Elizabeth Chambers outside the Los Angeles Police Department it ignited a
01:57curiosity inside of me about love the fracture oh my god inflicts lasting trauma hi wanted to see if
02:03they could ask you some questions absolutely not and can lead to tragedy and that's when my world
02:09ended I feel that it's part of my calling to meet with the victims the survivors to listen to their
02:15stories show how it can happen to anyone and expose the truth I'm Elizabeth Chambers and this is toxic
02:33when a relationship ends a person can become unrecognizable the humiliation loss of power the pain can all drive
02:44someone to their breaking point sometimes when that mask comes off things can escalate beyond just
02:51a car break showing there's no limit to what some people will do for revenge there's so much media
03:06coverage of this case why do you think people are so interested in it any crime of passion is going
03:12to be it's going to attract the media because that becomes relatable to people everybody's had an
03:17argument with a significant other so Ian and Angela had a whirlwind romance can you tell me how they
03:23met and how their relationship developed so quickly Ian and Angela seem like like-minded kindred spirits
03:29they met online in January of 2016 they both in a very kind of Orange County way they love the
03:38outdoors they're into health they were married inside of a month which if you think about it is crazy but
03:45but it does happen sometimes they're taken with each other they had a great place to live he had a
03:52thriving career a respected US Marshal they're newlyweds they're madly in love they really have
03:59everything you could want and then all of a sudden out of the blue Angela begins receiving these emails four
04:11months into the marriage beyond just threatening they're foreboding they're um they really seem to be
04:22predicting a very dark future for Angela
04:26some of the the emails would show pictures of dead women who'd been you know brutally um injured and
04:40and um you know decapitated and it was all very very confusing Ian's automatic reaction is that the emails
04:49were coming from his ex Michelle Michelle and Ian had not been broken up long at all was a very fresh
05:01thing he had gone ahead and gotten married very quickly so he assumed she was jealous he assumed
05:08because Ian and Angela were living in a condominium that Michelle and Ian had actually purchased together
05:14that maybe she felt that somebody had moved in kind of stolen her dream living in her castle with her
05:20Prince it's every morning it's every night but she wants me to it's only getting anywhere to show
05:25yeah Hadley oh Lilith is her demon cult fanatical identity we're asking you guys is there a way to put
05:33this girl in cuffs tonight maybe that'll get through to her although I get the feeling it might not so what
05:38does Angela do in response to the emails Angela does what I think most people would do at that point
05:43she goes to the Anaheim Police Department and files for a restraining order which she gets very readily
05:49after Angela files and gets the restraining order the emails uh not only do they not stop but they
05:57escalate and they become more threatening more foreboding and more perverse
06:03she calls out the high police department they come in puts out the puzzle pieces of what's been
06:13going on so what's going on let me explain okay so my name is Ian uh I'm a U.S. Marshal sorry this is
06:26Angela um you guys have been here regarding the same girl regarding the same bitch I'm sorry I'm gonna
06:33curse she sent an email with a Craigslist ad in it for a guy that wants to do a rape like a fantasy
06:41rape so from her email because the haunting be raped for a long time I know I'm sorry I'm sorry
06:49here don't look out at that we have like maybe over 60 emails from her since May that are all the
06:58same Angela's getting what would be any woman's worst nightmare right dozens of emails from her
07:04husband's crazy ex detailing horrific threats against her life but then she gets a link to a Craigslist
07:10post that post is in the section of Craigslist where you can solicit sex it's somebody pretending
07:17to be Angela posting that she wants someone to come to her house and rape her she says hi there
07:24I've been dying to have a rape fantasy while walking my dog calling me to the door and forcing me to the
07:30condo forcing me not to screen dragging me upstairs and taking me from behind on the bed if you can
07:34fulfill it tonight please let me know I am 30 tall gorgeous and ready my address is this address
07:39he's coming here to do some great fantasy that she set up threatening this okay so how do we know
07:47that she set it up so Ann and Angela are convinced that it's Ann's ex Michelle pretending to be Angela
07:53posting on Craigslist that she wants somebody to come to her home address break in and rape her
07:59but they don't necessarily have enough proof for the cops to come that night to arrest her because
08:06the emails on the Craigslist post are from different fake or anonymous accounts this ex-girlfriend of mine
08:13has it out for this woman because she hates her and hates the fact that I'm not with her anymore
08:18stupid as it may sound that's what's happening and she set this up no one else set this up at what
08:25point is this girl put in handcuffs Anaheim detectives spend weeks reviewing all of these threats
08:33trying to build a case and throughout all of this the harassment continues
08:40every time you think it's going to stop and every time we think like our guard goes down a little
08:45if she won up she started sending we lost a child in April and coincidentally I'm actually pregnant
08:54again which is congratulations that's a positive thing yeah yesterday so it's like the silver lining
09:00but she lost the child because of all this the stress yeah this whole nightmare has been orchestrated
09:09arranged at the hands of his former girlfriend this is her right here and she lived here yeah then
09:15she I found out she cheated on me with like six or seven dudes from tinder no problem I told her you're
09:20cheating on me you need to make a decision what you want to do with this relationship and I had
09:24Leslie my friend here just in case as a witness and she packed up and she locked so obviously you
09:29know make sure your doors are locked and all that then there's a fateful night where it goes
09:37beyond just email a man shows up at the home answering the rape fantasy pregs list posts and
09:45brutally attacks Angela grabs her by the hair slams her up against the wall beats her
09:52in her head she must have been thinking this is just the fruition of those emails this is all of
09:59that coming true within the craigslist community there's a subculture of people you'll get an
10:05address and you will show up there with the expectation and somebody there wants to take part
10:10in a rape fantasy and it means that if you've had enough and you say no well it's a rape fantasy so
10:15that really doesn't matter there are no rules so it's the darkest of the dark it's the most evil of the
10:22most evil but then somehow she manages to fend this guy off he flees
10:31with this growing mountain of circumstantial evidence and the attack police finally decide okay
10:39it's time to make an arrest and on june 24th michelle hadley is finally taken into custody
10:45the emails and threats immediately stop michelle faced multiple felony counts
10:52including attempted forcible rape and stalking facing life in prison if convicted on all counts
11:00it felt like a happy ending for ian and angela right so it was very cut and dry there was no
11:06question and and the police department moved very very swiftly this was it the case was over slam dunk
11:13was michelle because i mean who else would it have been
11:16that was the story then that michelle was the worst kind of criminal imaginable and we were fed that
11:26script for months and then all of a sudden it became obvious that we had all been asking the wrong
11:33question
11:33it's the ultimate plot twist it stops on a dime and the entire thing flips around
11:43hey michelle hi
11:48talk to me about the day you were first served with a restraining order so i'm at home
11:57all of a sudden there are police at the door
12:01so i see leslie carlson there she is a u.s marshal and a good friend of my ex-boyfriend
12:12ian lust like serves a restraining order on me and it didn't have much information in it but it did
12:19have angela's name and that they were married and i see them basically saying that i'm sending
12:27harassing emails to her i don't know who this woman is i don't even have her email address
12:31a few days later i actually called anaheim police department and i left three different voicemail
12:39messages for them i said look they're saying i sent these emails i didn't please call me i want
12:43someone to investigate this the next thing that happens it's a friday night i just remember
12:52pulling up on the cul-de-sac and these lights turn on and a detective slaps his badge on my door and
13:01shines a light in so i immediately feel relief because i'm thinking okay they're here to investigate
13:07you know hallelujah like yes like i've been waiting for someone to come and talk to me
13:11so i hop out of the car and he says we have a warrant for your devices and i'm thinking
13:16great they'll get my devices all of them they'll i'll give them my passcodes they'll see that i
13:22haven't done anything but he basically says he's going to place me under arrest
13:27under arrest like i don't understand like i didn't violate the restraining order
13:32i'm trying to wrap my brain around this situation and they processed me that night
13:38and put me in a jail cell and then i found out that angela got attacked
13:45at this point i'm shaking because i'm starting to realize that this is on a different level than i
13:57initially thought when the jail cell that night i called my parents and my dad said they've set
14:05the bail really high they had set it at a million dollars he gave me the choice he said we can use
14:12that money to hire a really good attorney and prove your innocence but you know that means you're
14:17going to have to stay in there for a while and uh i told him okay let's get the attorney
14:24i told him i can handle it
14:26i had no idea what it was going to be like either i mean i just i didn't know what to expect but i just
14:38knew that they were charging me with life and so at this point it was like well my only chance is to
14:49get an attorney and get out of here and prove that i'm innocent what was going through your head
14:54i was completely bewildered and just you know you're up all night because you're upset you're
14:59confused how am i in here i didn't do anything wrong and i knew without a shadow of a doubt
15:05who the mastermind was behind it
15:08i met ian online in october of 2013
15:17on the first date he told me that he was a u.s marshal of course immediately i'm thinking oh
15:23okay great these are guys who want to help people like they want to serve their country they want to
15:31serve other people so i'm in my head already checking off these boxes that i have of like
15:36this is someone who you know is that stable kind of all-american boy
15:39basically after that the relationship really sped up it started to get you know physical very quickly
15:49um we were spending a lot of time together we met in october of 2013 and less than six months
15:56later we moved in together we dated a little over a year and then all of a sudden he's proposing to
16:02me so i was very surprised pretty shortly after we got engaged one day we're driving through downtown
16:12anaheim and there were these new construction condos and he says okay let's stop and like go look
16:17at these he wanted to buy one so we you know signed the paperwork to go on the mortgage together
16:24and he told me he had no money to put towards the down payment so i put the entire deposit down
16:30it was about fourteen thousand dollars how did that affect your relationship you're not moving
16:35in together you're engaged so it was an interesting time because there was this dynamic where there was
16:39this excitement also mixed with this dread and fear and worry because there were so many issues in the
16:46relationship what were those issues what did you guys fight about so he was very controlling he
16:51decided where things went what type of furniture that we had he would tell me what to wear he wanted
16:56me to have a belly button ring he wanted me to get fake nails there was even one time where he sort of
17:01floated the idea of getting a boob job like i mean there's just this element of he was building the body
17:06that he wanted at any point did you consider leaving him there was one time after we had moved into the
17:12condo i remember i was starting to go get my stuff from the master bedroom and he followed me up and i
17:23went to get my purse and i went to go around him to leave and he grabbed me and he pushed me down on the bed
17:30i just remember clawing on the bed and screaming and he's pulling me at my ankles back and i just
17:42remember feeling horrified because he had guns all over the apartment he had a shotgun under his bed he
17:48had guns in the closet i was completely outmatched in the situation like i didn't think i could get out
17:54of that all i remember was breaking down and sobbing and he threatened to call the police on me
18:01the fear is hard to describe to people who haven't had to exit one of these relationships with someone
18:09who has guns and has the ability to track people you're like well i don't know if i can battle someone
18:16who is in law enforcement you feel like you're stuck you know
18:19right around the time it started to get really difficult we went out one night and he spent the
18:27entire night staring at this girl to the point i was like hey i'm right here like and i remember
18:33calling him out on it and just saying like this is feels so disrespectful and he told me you're not
18:38a special snowflake and i always sort of had this belief value we're all unique little individual
18:45people and we deserve to be valued and cherished and so something about this just cut right to the
18:50core of my belief system
18:52well the next day he had his friend leslie crawlson there and i remember just thinking to myself this
19:01is it this is the moment i have to leave i knew he wouldn't do anything while she was there like he
19:06wouldn't do anything dramatic i had a tiny little jetta i packed it full of everything i could fit in
19:11there and i got in my car and that was it and i left
19:16after michelle moved back in with her parents she found herself in a dispute with ian over their
19:25condo ian refused to move out or sell the condo michelle then had to hire attorneys to help negotiate
19:32an agreement between her and ian they finally agreed that ian could stay in the condo if he paid
19:38the mortgage within six months if he failed to do so a backup clause would be enacted and he would
19:43have to sell the condo immediately and they would split the profits after the engagement was broken
19:49off how did ian treat you he would keep going back and forth between making sure i knew he intended to
19:54stay in the condo he intended to keep the condo but then also trying to get me back wanting me to
19:59come back so you know i didn't feel completely um free and there were always like little hidden
20:06threats like he would tell me oh i just canceled your car insurance so you better watch out while
20:11you're on the road so you don't get pulled over and of course i'm thinking well he's law enforcement
20:14he's probably gonna have someone pull me over were you still afraid at this point
20:17so i think for the first few months i was but then you know when you don't hear from them you think
20:24okay they've moved on but then the six months had come and gone on the mortgage assumption process
20:32and once i make it known that i want to enforce the settlement agreement which says that we just sell
20:37the condo in that case all of a sudden someone started sending emails to angela
20:44what is it like as a father to see your daughter in jail oh it's disturbing
21:01did you ever for a moment think that your daughter was capable of this
21:06capable of it absolutely but she would never do it
21:13your daughter's sitting in jail you are trying to piece this together
21:22well i knew she didn't do it so we stepped back and figured out what we're going to do here
21:26with the anaheim police department and i said well what evidence could you
21:30possibly have that she did this the detective says we saw activity on
21:36michelle's email account in her inbox i said that's not evidence that michelle sent emails
21:41michael that's in her inbox and he also states all these men were showing up responding to all the
21:48craigslist rape fantasy ads but there are 22 cameras on the condominium they're everywhere the
21:54police report states that nobody was seen coming or going they had no proof that somebody showed up
22:00so the question always came up is if nobody's seen coming or going then why is somebody in jail
22:06at that point you decided that you had to take this investigation completely into your own hands
22:11oh yeah basically yeah because you don't know to what extent somebody has been able to frame your daughter up
22:19so this would be ian's t-r-o
22:25t-r-o stands for temporary restraining order
22:28on july 15th the day after michelle's arrested he went down to the court and filed a t-r-o against her
22:35i have no idea why he did it but he put a lot of evidence that implicated him
22:40all this email emails from lo this truth which is the account that was responding to all the craigslist
22:49rape fantasy ads and also created three rape fantasy ads
22:53to get responders to come to the condo so this comes through and you can see right here that's the
23:01ip address it tells you what device she's actually using right and that's angela connell's macbook pro
23:08oh my god and there's the ip of the condominium wow crystal clear so somebody's at the condo sending
23:17these right we don't know who but we know somebody using her account angela could easily send this
23:24but you will notice this information here you know this was ian's doing i created him and he wants
23:33only me right here signed michi did he ever did she even go by that name yes that's her name
23:39michi uh-huh then who would know that right angela no yeah so you see it's not complicated
23:45information right the police department had access to all of this in plain sight and that's what is so
23:51infuriating is that it's just a plethora of just garbage that they had it all went back to them
23:56every last bit of it has the footprint of ian all over it everything does
24:01and so you know my first thing was i got in touch with the anaheim police department
24:07and they said it's not a new uh police department issue that's a u.s marshal issue so i called up the
24:14u.s marshal service in downtown la and they say well that's not a u.s marshals issue they just blew it
24:20off what was unusual about this case was that the police department the anaheim pd had this couple's
24:30back and like they just accepted as evidence all these emails ian and angela just forwarded they
24:37didn't do any diligence i mean even when they did subpoena the platforms they didn't look at the
24:42results which in in this case would have shown that all the the emails and stuff originated from
24:48ian and angela's home it was incredibly frustrating to say the very least that nobody was listening i can
24:55tell you that i was boiling michelle's in jail and he's running loose and thinking that to this day
25:02i still can't get justice when they're looking at the same evidence i'm looking at
25:06so you've now been in jail tell me what that was like um you're treated like an animal you know
25:17like i mean they're i mean basically the attitude was just you can just you know sit in urine and
25:24feast like we don't care the deputy said well because of the crime that you're charged for
25:30you're going to be in a high security section there you don't see outside you don't see the sunlight
25:36and so very quickly you lose track of what day it is did you fear for your life oh for sure i mean
25:43because i looked so different and i sort of stood out the more violent you know um criminals that
25:49were on the upper level they thought i was a snitch and so they would harass me and accuse me of being
25:55a snitch and so every time the deputies transported me i was scared to death that one of them would
26:02attack me i was thinking they're gonna eat me alive you know i scream wholesome goody two-shoes
26:11they're gonna eat me alive
26:12your daughter is sitting in jail you are trying to piece this together and at the same time there's
26:21a huge media storm happening all around you what was that like for you it we saw the effects of it
26:28right away okay with our business i mean it was like who wants to do business with you know the
26:33craziest woman in the world right i mean her face was plastered everywhere and everybody was calling her
26:37the crazy ex right and she did get the award for the uh craziest person in orange county for that
26:41year so i didn't insult the injury yeah
26:44it felt like no matter what you showed them as evidence that i wasn't doing it they didn't care
26:54when you were in jail did you think you were going to be there forever
27:00yeah because it had already been almost three months so i was losing hope towards the end i
27:05thought i was going to be there forever
27:07good morning and thank you all for coming
27:12i'm here to announce the filing the felony complaint against angela marie diaz
27:18by the orange county district attorney's office the charges include two counts of kidnapping two
27:36counts of false imprisonment perjury and 21 misdemeanor counts of filing false police reports
27:42as michelle her dad and her entire legal team are trying to convince anaheim police department
27:48that ian is behind all of this they learned that out of nowhere ian has walked into apd
27:54to report that angela is actually the one behind the entire thing diaz now stands accused of
28:01pretending to be ms hadley and sending the emails and rape fantasy solicitations to herself
28:06in order to frame ms hadley during the course of the investigation we uncovered other deceptions
28:11including fake cervical cancer pretending to be an attorney forging doctor's notes faking a
28:17pregnancy and impersonating another one of john doe's ex-girlfriends over email
28:21ian said that they were pregnant with twins
28:24i'm actually pregnant again we just fell back
28:26congratulations and they are both really excited about it ian goes and buys a minivan they get car
28:35seats and then he realizes that she was faking it that she had bought like a fake pregnancy test
28:41off of etsy that she brought fake sonograms angela would go to work but really was didn't have a job
28:49and was like bouncing checks i think she's a professional grifter i think there are people that
28:55they survive by cheating people that's what they do for the anaheim pd and for the da the blame shifted
29:02toward angela these two women michelle hadley and angela diaz are connected through a common man
29:08for the time being we're going to identify that man as john doe our joint investigation eventually
29:13determined that the true origins of these emails they originated from the condo shared by john doe
29:17and diaz from diaz's cell phone and from diaz's father's home in arizona the evidence we currently
29:24have does not show involvement by john doe
29:33you are now exonerated of charges how did that feel angela was arrested but they hadn't arrested ian
29:43so it was bittersweet on the one hand it was what i had been waiting for because it meant i could go
29:49back to school i could try to get a job again i could try to start living normally but
29:57there was this other side of it where they were clearly trying to cover up ian's involvement
30:04and that was um it made me angry
30:12you don't come out of 88 days in jail the same person that you went in
30:18i mean i feel like i had nothing to lose after that i knew obviously from the get-go who had done
30:23this you were in jail because of one person and one person only ian created his own worst nightmare
30:31because he took someone who was just this quiet people-pleasing empath and he basically turned her
30:37into someone who was angry and ready to fight when i knew that i was getting out of jail all i could
30:45think was let's do this we are hearing for the first time from the woman at the center of a story
30:51that captivated the country michelle hadley michelle hadley michelle hadley is sharing her story
30:55won't be silent speaking out we talked to people in the media about the case you certainly think he's
31:01involved at this point oh i do absolutely i'd angela could not have written those emails unless she had
31:07the information from from ian and i would not back down because i already knew he was involved there was
31:16a level of corruption to what happened to me and it really centered around the failure of law enforcement
31:23to do any sort of investigation when the da's office held that press conference they very specifically
31:32told my attorney we don't want michelle to come to the press conference they did a whole powerpoint
31:39where they presented this as a love triangle and that angela was the jealous wife trying to get back
31:44at me and they actually put ian up on this powerpoint as the john doe and when i saw that i just remember
31:51thinking wow what a story they have concocted to hide the fact that they had lots of evidence that he was
31:59doing it so we were all pressing the da's office anaheim pd to do something about it but then in the
32:08end anaheim pd decided not to press charges against ian there is this idea that police officers will
32:18protect one another at any cost the cops and the detectives in anaheim were protecting this federal
32:25marshal and it was just not going to be the case from their perspective that anybody but the federal
32:30marshal was was the good guy in the story at this point the apd's behavior is absolutely egregious
32:36all you have to do is watch that initial body camera footage and you can see ian's lies are laid
32:41out right there clear as day he's saying that she cheated on him she cheated on me with like six or
32:47seven dudes from tinder but she didn't he's the one who cheated on her ian said michelle showed up at
32:53her condo she's got her here well there are cameras everywhere and not a single piece of evidence
32:59or proof showing that she did that you see him on the video acting like he's the one trying to get
33:04her off the mortgage we're in the middle of the refi right now to get her name completely off the
33:09mortgage when in reality michelle was the one fighting to get ian to pay his share and through
33:14all of it he was able to use his position of power and his connections in law enforcement who served
33:19them uh a friend of mine michelle and her dad have all of the evidence showing that ian is guilty
33:26so i cannot understand why anaheim police department did not pursue ian
33:31so i set up an interview with their former public information officer to try to get some answers
33:36he's not coming what you're joking you're joking well unfortunately i got a call asking that i
33:49not participate in the interview all caps sorry oh my god and you didn't think it was a good idea to
33:57explain this because anaheim is telling them we don't want you to do it he's not he wants to but
34:03they're not letting him i guess that the thing that's the thing that's upsetting is that's proving
34:08the point that there's some sort of like brotherhood yeah like we don't want you to do it so you shouldn't
34:12do it even that you can do it on october 17 2017 angela diaz pleaded guilty she was immediately
34:26sentenced to five years in prison i did not show up to her sentencing hearing and read a victim's
34:33statement because it felt like a big sham to me because i knew who the mastermind was behind it
34:39and then as the years kind of ticked on i remember thinking well if they haven't
34:44already done it they're probably never going to do it so i was losing hope and you hear so
34:50many stories where the victim doesn't really get any justice but then
34:56who is harry lidsky and how is he involved in this case it is very rare to hear these words come out
35:06of my mouth because i don't use this for a lot of people in law enforcement at all anymore but i would
35:12say he's a hero ian diaz he was i think the mastermind ian misdirected the anaheim police
35:21department i think he sent them down a path all the while he was covering his tracks and i think
35:27setting angela up to take the fall and and it worked
35:34the orange county da's office was able to uncover angela's involvement but not ian's
35:38ian was still out there with his gun and his badge angela's role in it was obvious ian's role
35:45was a bit harder to uncover but ian made a mistake we found some critical evidence when looking through
35:54angela's hotmail account there's a few dozen emails that purported to come from angie
36:01actually traced back to a doj issued ip address we were able to trace that further back to ian's
36:08work phone to his u.s marshall's phone he never gave anybody the password of that nobody looked at
36:13his work phone but him but also the craigslist piece was was big i mean he lied about it
36:20he explained his craigslist use as minimalist i think he said he remembered selling a bike once
36:26uh it turns out i think somebody described him as the king of craigslist not only was he using it
36:33but he was using the personals he was using it for sexual encounters ian had this extreme fetish
36:39for cuckolding which basically is somebody who gets off on watching their partner have sex with
36:45somebody else and even though michelle did not share those kinks during their relationship ian got
36:52like a stranger off of craigslist to come over and have sex with her ian you set up essentially
36:58a scheduled rape in your own home how did that come about so the first time he asked me to do this
37:05he told me he um had this fantasy of me having sex with another man and i was very clear in my
37:13communication i said you know that's not something i would ever be interested in doing but he kept
37:18pressuring so it felt like no matter how many times i said no he kept pushing pushing pushing i
37:23eventually broke down and i said look i'll do it once i have to be on something because i can't go
37:29through with it if i'm you know like sober did he watch or did he record it he was in a separate room
37:34but he was recording and so i was on you know nyquil and also three shots of liquor so i don't even have
37:43a really clear recollection of it but i remember afterwards him saying you know you better get
37:52tested because his condom fell off and i just remember thinking first of all i didn't even want
37:57to do this and like you put me at risk for something that i didn't even want to do like i told you no so
38:03many times and i had been put into this situation that was the complete and utter opposite of who i was
38:10at my core my identity had basically just been obliterated at this point i started sobbing
38:17uncontrollably and all he said was nobody put a gun to your head how did it make you feel completely
38:24violated that for me is one of the darkest memories of my life it makes you feel so worthless because
38:31like my body was just an object for him to do with what he wanted michelle's relationship with ian
38:39involved the use of craigslist for sex so in an extensive history of using it in all the ways
38:45that manifested themselves in the case against michelle that was that was huge for us and for
38:53one of the ads to come and engage in a rape fantasy with angie craigslist required a user to authenticate
39:02that they were doing this voluntarily consensually and ian used his phone number craigslist sent him
39:09a text that post was approved by ian on his cell phone he told the anahead police department that
39:19he never clicked it but craigslist confirmed that he did the next morning after he realized the mistake
39:26he made he went and got a new phone number proving that for us was uh was a big domino tip in the case
39:32against ian do you think he was concerned at this time i don't i don't know if he was he might have
39:37thought after so much time that that he was out of the woods he seemed surprised when we arrested him
39:46ian was finally arrested but michelle had to wait two more years for the case to go to trial
39:52even behind bars ian stuck to his story that angela the real crazy ex was the one behind the entire
39:59scheme but thankfully the jury didn't buy it he was convicted of conspiracy to commit cyber stalking
40:07cyber stalking obstruction perjury he was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison we always wanted
40:15justice for michelle we always wanted ian to face the justice he deserved um and we never stopped it
40:22just took a long time how did it make you feel at that time and i'm glad i didn't give up
40:34that's a lot of your life to be fighting and dealing with something like this you know but
40:41it's very healing to get that justice i mean i could start moving on with my life
40:46i know that not every victim gets that but i i wish we lived in a world where more did because
40:54to finally have that moment where the world is saying yes we see
40:58my girlfriend i think overdosed i'm trying to resuscitate her right now he's a doctor i'm supposed
41:16to trust him he couldn't be poisoning my daughter can he i cannot think of anything worse than losing my
41:22children i knew i knew i was going to prove that he murdered my sister
41:35you
