02:18Stop the ice raves!
02:21Stop the ice raves!
02:23Stop the ice raves!
02:25And if we don't get it, shut it down!
02:28And if we don't get it, shut it down!
02:31And if we don't get it, shut it down!
02:34That's right.
02:35Because there is many more of us than there is of Trump's
02:47minions.
02:49I want you to repeat after me.
02:53I want you to say, we will not be silenced!
02:57We will not be silenced!
03:00We will not be silenced!
03:03We will not be silenced!
03:07We will not be silenced!
03:11And we will not be intimidated, neither.
03:16First of all, I want to say thank you to everybody who's here from labor, from community.
03:34This is all of our fight.
03:36Make no mistake about that.
03:39Good afternoon everybody.
03:40My name is Jaime Contreras and I'm an Executive Vice President of SCIU 32BJ.
03:49I'm also the Chair of the SCIU International Latino Caucus.
03:56Our union, our union 32BJ represents 185,000 workers all throughout the East Coast.
04:03The vast majority, people of color and immigrant workers, that's why we're here today.
04:11We represent 22,000 members in this region, in Baltimore and Richmond.
04:19Those are the people who clean these buildings.
04:22Those are the people who keep our airports running.
04:25Those are the people who secure our buildings.
04:32Our members come from over 60 different countries and speak over 28 different languages.
04:40So this, for 32BJ and for the labor movement, is personal.
04:45That's right.
04:47For those of you who may or may not know, this past Friday, military gear-clad ICE agents
04:56launched terrorizing, godless race, in the city of Los Angeles.
05:02Shame!
05:04At one of the locations, our brother, my brother, SCIU USWW President and SCIU California President,
05:16David Huerta, was injured and detained while peacefully advocating for immigrants exercising
05:24his First Amendment rights.
05:27Now, he has been released from the hospital, but he remains in federal custody.
05:36For what, I ask?
05:39For what?
05:40For exercising our First Amendment rights?
05:43Now, David is like a third or fourth generation American, born and raised in California.
05:50Where are we headed in this country?
05:52What's going on?
05:53But we've been here before.
05:55Now, some of you guys may remember, the last time the National Guard was deployed to a state,
06:05just in 1965, by Lyndon Johnson, against the will of the racist governor in Alabama, who was
06:15trying to suppress protesters in the civil rights movement.
06:19Now, Lyndon Johnson sent the National Guard to protect the protesters, not to detain them
06:28and hurt them.
06:29This president is doing the opposite.
06:39We will not be silenced, and we will not be intimidated.
06:44There's more of you than there is of these crazy people.
06:51Now, Trump has now sent the National Guard to L.A. with the only purpose, make no mistake,
06:59of escalating the tension in the community.
07:03And he's also threatening in sending the U.S. Marine Corps.
07:09Now, as a former veteran myself, I find this disgusting, disturbing, insulting, and unconstitutional.
07:20So shame on you for doing that, President Trump.
07:27Donald Trump, shame on you.
07:37That's right.
07:38Shame on you for doing this in our communities.
07:42And it's not just the immigrant communities.
07:45We're all under attack under this president.
07:48LGBTQ, people of color.
07:50I mean, he's talking about renaming the Harriet Tubman Naval Vessel, for crying out loud.
07:58Shame on this guy.
08:01Now, David Huerta is not alone.
08:05That's why we're here today, because we want David Huerta free, and we want this ice race
08:10to stop now.
08:14Locals across, SEIU Locals and labor across the country are together, united, as you're
08:21going to hear today from some of our key labor leaders in our country.
08:27And this is only the beginning for us.
08:29We're only going to continue to organize and mobilize, which is what labor is good at.
08:34So now it is my honor to introduce our first speaker, someone who was with me on May Day protesting
08:45all this assaults that happened in our community.
08:49She is the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Immigration, Immigration Integrity, Security,
08:57and Enforcement.
08:58Please give a warm welcome to a true champion for immigrants and for workers in general,
09:05Congresswoman Pamela Yayapal.
09:07Come up here.
09:12Thank you, Jaime.
09:17Thank you, Jaime.
09:18Thank you, SCIU.
09:19Thank you, labor movement, for always standing up for workers, for immigrants, for our democracy.
09:27I have one word for you, and I, yes, I'm here as the ranking member of the Immigration Subcommittee,
09:33but I am also here as a naturalized citizen and a proud immigrant doing immigrant rights
09:39in the streets for 20 years before...
09:41Yay!
09:44I have one word for you today.
09:47Enough, enough of these mass ICE raids that are sweeping up innocent people of every legal status,
09:56tearing apart families and our communities.
09:59Do you say enough?
10:00Enough!
10:01End the arrests of community members and leaders like the incredible SEIU President David Huerta.
10:09No!
10:10David is a champion of civil rights.
10:15He is somebody who is simply standing up peacefully for justice.
10:21Someone who is one of the best of our country's labor movement.
10:26Free him immediately!
10:28Yeah!
10:30Enough of the undermining of due process, the blocking of access to legal counsel for the hundreds
10:40of people, immigrants, who were picked up in L.A. on Friday.
10:45Don't forget that due process is something that everybody in this country gets despite your legal status.
10:53That's right.
10:54This is...
10:55There are plenty of places in the Constitution where it says citizen.
11:02The due process clause is not one of them.
11:05It says person.
11:07Every person has access to due process.
11:10That's right.
11:11End the illegal blocking of members of Congress who have gone to conduct their authority to actually
11:20have oversight over these ICE detention centers.
11:24They are prisons.
11:26We have the authority and the responsibility to conduct oversight.
11:30And this weekend, members of Congress that represent the L.A. area were at the detention center in L.A.
11:37and then at Atalanto, and they were denied access to those facilities.
11:46And Donald Trump calling out the National Guard unconstitutionally, illegally, without the governor's
11:53authorized approval.
11:55As Jaime said, that's something that has not happened since 1965.
12:00And it's hard to imagine that this time the National Guard were sent out to attack protesters
12:07that were exercising their constitutional obligation.
12:11Now, I want to say something to you.
12:13It is actually in the interest of all American people to stand up for these rights.
12:19They know, they know that dividing us is what will make them strong.
12:26And they know that when we are united, nobody can divide us.
12:35They want to, they want to distract you from their power grab for authoritarian power on the backs of working people.
12:45They want to distract you from the fact that they are trying to strip people of health care
12:50and make Americans poorer and sicker all so they can give a $5 trillion tax break to the wealthiest billionaires.
12:58We say not on our watch.
13:00And all of the violence and the escalation is core to the Trump administration's authoritarian playbook.
13:11As we see people exercising their constitutional rights to peacefully use their voices to speak out against this injustice,
13:19they are being met with tear gas and rubber bullets from this unconstitutional, unlawful administration.
13:32And look, even the L.A. Police Department said that the protests were peaceful before Trump rolled in with military tanks on the streets of Los Angeles.
13:44Federal law enforcement from DHS, ICE, HSI, and the FBI.
13:51All to crack down on peaceful protestors who are standing up for immigrant workers,
13:57who are standing up for the economy of this country,
14:00who are standing up for our communities, for our families, and saying don't tear us apart.
14:05We are going to stand united against this authoritarian power grab.
14:15I have been working on immigration reform with my friend Jaime, with SCIU,
14:19with all these incredible labor unions for decades.
14:22We all know that the immigration system is broken and that the American people want a fair, humane system
14:32that actually allows people to be able to work, allows people to be with their families,
14:38allows people to have the rights that they deserve for keeping our country going,
14:44for doing the work that they are doing every single day.
14:48And instead, we are villainizing and demonizing them under this president.
14:52And that has to stop.
14:54David Huerta, David Huerta said it best.
15:03He said, we all collectively have to object to this madness because this is not justice.
15:13This is injustice.
15:15So today we are here to say free David Huerta.
15:19Free David Huerta.
15:21We are here to say free the immigrants that have been arrested.
15:25Free the immigrants that have been arrested.
15:28We are here to say end the ICE raids.
15:31And the ICE raids.
15:33We are here to say stand up for our protected constitutional rights to free speech.
15:40That's right.
15:41To due process.
15:43To a democracy that works for all of us.
15:46Thank you so much everybody.
15:48Let's keep this up because the people united will never be defeated.
15:53The people united will never be defeated.
15:57The people united will never be defeated.
16:10The people united will never be defeated.
16:12The people united will never be defeated.
16:14That's right.
16:16And the people are united.
16:21Labor is united.
16:22The community is united.
16:25I see ASPIE is in the house.
16:27I see NEA is in the house.
16:31I see AFD, I see AATSE, I see SEIU, I see LA here, I see NOVA Labor, DC Labor, and of
16:46course I see CASA here, and of course I see SEIU here.
16:54Congresswoman, thank you so much for being here.
16:57It is now my honor to introduce to you the National President of the House of Labor, the
17:05National President of the AFL-CIO.
17:08Please welcome Liz Schuller to the stage.
17:16Thank you so much Jaime, thank you for your leadership and bringing us together.
17:22Is labor in the house?
17:24Yes!
17:25Is community in the house?
17:28Yes!
17:29Are working people in the house?
17:31Yes!
17:33Listen, we know this word, don't we?
17:36In the labor movement we were built on this word.
17:39And that word is solidarity.
17:42Solidarity!
17:44Solidarity is what our brother David Huerta was showing up for last Friday when he stood
17:51up for immigrant workers in his community and when he was legally exercising his constitutional
17:58rights.
17:59And when he was violently detained in violation of his constitutional rights and freedoms that
18:06every one of us hold dear by the way, it was a signal, it was a wake-up call.
18:14And we know exactly what that wake-up call was designed to do.
18:18And so that's why I'm here bringing the voices of 15 million working people in the AFL-CIO.
18:29Standing strong together to support our brother David Huerta, to demand his release and end
18:36these unjust ICE raids right now.
18:40Ahora!
18:45Everyone here knows what this administration is doing makes no sense.
18:50It makes no sense.
18:52Our country suffers when these military raids tear families apart.
18:57Our country suffers when we see weapons of war used against peaceful protests in the streets.
19:06Shame!
19:07Shame!
19:08Shame!
19:09Shame!
19:10Shame!
19:11Shame!
19:12Shame!
19:13Shame!
19:14Shame!
19:15Shame!
19:16Our country suffers when working people who come here and are contributing to our economy
19:20and our communities are targeted simply for trying to build a better life for them and their
19:25families.
19:26But one thing this administration should know about the labor movement and this community
19:32collaboration and partnership and allyship that we have built together is that we do
19:37not leave anyone behind.
19:38That's right!
19:39And we will be here as long as it takes until they free our brother David, until they end
19:50these raids, that they are doing nothing but tearing our communities apart.
19:54And we will not stop.
19:56We will not stop until every worker, no matter your race, your gender, your orientation,
20:01your religion, your identity, your immigration status has the dignity and respect they deserve.
20:09That's right.
20:10So let's keep that word solidarity at the front of our minds.
20:16Let's keep our minds.
20:17Let's keep marching.
20:18Let's keep exercising our voices and doing it peacefully and doing it together.
20:24Thank you so much.
20:25Thank you for being here and showing solidarity.
20:29I think I see ...
20:40I see I see APWU I see any free David now free David now free hey hey hey

26:36but there was no way I was gonna not come here and stand in solidarity and so I'm gonna be very brief but I just
26:45had to think about this moment and all y'all know this quote first they came for the socialist
26:53that's right and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist then they came for the trade unionist
27:02and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out
27:11because I was not a Jew then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me
27:21so we speak for David free David free David free David free David free David
27:29we are not going no damn where I don't care what's happening over there or what's happening over there or what's happening down the street

27:48I will go to jail with you I will do whatever I can as long as God got breath in my body to stand in solidarity with you
27:55God bless you peace and power I got a new chant for y'all I got a new chant
28:03you repeat after me as long as it takes
28:06as long as it takes
28:07as long as it takes
28:08whatever it takes
28:09whatever it takes
28:10we'll be in your face
28:11we'll be in your face
28:12as long as it takes
28:13as long as it takes
28:14as long as it takes
28:15whatever it takes
28:16whatever it takes
28:17we'll be in your face
28:18we'll be in your face
28:19we'll be in your face
28:20we'll be in your face
28:21Next, thank you, President Pringle, thank you, Melanie, thank you, Liz.
28:32Now it is my honor to introduce to you the President of the American Federation of Teachers,
28:40President Randy Weingarten. Can you hear me?
28:55We ended, Pramila Jayapal ended by saying the people united will never be defeated.
29:04I want to start that way. The people united will never be defeated.
29:22Say what? So, why do I start that way? You've already heard from some amazing speakers and
29:31you'll hear from more. I start that way because even in a moment like this, where we don't
29:37have the amplification of the modern era, the amplification that we have is our voices standing
29:46together in unison, not being divided. And when we do that, standing together in unison,
29:55not divided, people can hear us blocks away. We can do that without amplification if we're
30:04standing together, if we're listening to each other, if we are in, as Liz said, solidarity
30:11with each other. Now, there's three things I want to say. Number one, David Watta was standing,
30:22bearing witness to an ice raid of workers. Workers who were working for a living. Workers who
30:33have been terrified because of this ice, these ice raids. Workers who are only in America, like my
30:42grandfather, I am a third generation immigrant, who came to America for a better life. If one wants to
30:50fix the immigration laws, which they should be fixed, fix the goddamn immigration laws. Don't arrest workers.
30:59Yeah! Sorry, God. I like it. Sorry. I like it. Sorry, God. Number two, the kind of fear and terror
31:10that is going on is rifling through so many of our families. Becky represents the NEA. I represent the
31:20AFT. We are the fastest growing union in the country. We hear it from our members. We hear it from our
31:28members all the time. We do not want ice in hospitals. We do not want ice in schools. We do not want ice in
31:37churches. We do not want ice in workplaces. These are places where people are trying to create the
31:45promise of America. And what Donald Trump is doing is the fear of America, not the promise of America.
31:53And what David was doing was bearing witness to fight the fear of America and
32:01to try to create the promise of America. So this is the third thing and the last thing.
32:09This is not a battle that's going to be won or lost by this rally today. There is something,
32:15this is Pride Month. We used to have Pride Day. It's now Pride Month. Wait, wait, wait.
32:23That started just like in the civil rights movement in the Jim Crow era when people had to keep
32:30fighting and fighting and fighting. In the AIDS era, people had to keep fighting and fighting and
32:37fighting. So the last thing I will say is this. Silence equals death. We must not only be in solidarity
32:48today, but each and every day together because silence equals death. That is what Mr. Trump wants.
32:58He wants to silence us. He wants to create fear. He wants to create apathy. So I am asking you,
33:05are we going to be silent? No. Are we going to work to get David freed? Yeah. Are we going to work
33:13every day for the promise of America? Yeah. For the promise for immigrants? Yeah. For the promise
33:20for school children? Yes. For the promise for freedom? Yes. For the promise for justice? Yes. Because
33:27what's the saying from the beginning of the speech? The people united will never be defeated.
33:41The people united will never be defeated. The people united will never be defeated.
33:57When do we want it?
33:59Now!
34:00Why do we want?
34:01Pre-mavid!
34:02When do we want it?
34:03Now!
34:04When do we want it?
34:05Now!
34:06And if we don't get it?
34:07Shut it up!
34:08And if we don't get it?
34:10Shut it down!
34:11And if we don't get it?
34:12Shut it down!
34:14And if we don't get it?
34:15Shut it down!
34:16That's right, they're gonna hear us.
34:18That's why we're here today in front of the Departments of Injustice,
34:24which is on that side under this president.
34:27Now, like I said, I think I saw some Aspen people here.
34:35I think I saw the president of that amazing union here.
34:41It is my honor to introduce the international president
34:46of the American Federation of State and County Municipal Employees,
34:51Lee Shenders!
34:56Is labor in this house?
35:01Is labor in this house?
35:04Are our partners in this house?
35:07You ready to raise some hell?
35:09Are you ready to raise some hell?
35:12Are you fired up?
35:14You're fired up.
35:16Now, let me say this.
35:20On behalf of the 1.3 million members of my union AFSCME,
35:26providing public services all across this country,
35:30we stand.
35:32We stand with David, and we demand this right now.
35:36Free David! Free David! Free David! Free David!
35:41Now, just think about this.
35:44This is America.
35:47Supposedly the home of the free.
35:50Well, I've got a question about that right now.
35:53It's not the home of the free when you stop people from demonstrating
35:58and fighting for what they believe in,
36:01fighting for their rights, making their voices heard.
36:05It's not the home of the free.
36:09It's becoming a country that we don't even want to think about.
36:14And what we've got to do, what all of us have got to do,
36:18is to come together and say,
36:21Hell, no, it's not happening here!
36:24Hell, no, it's not happening here!
36:27Hell, no, it's not happening here!
36:30Hell, no, it's not happening here!
36:31It's up to all of us.
36:33It's up to all of us.
36:36And we just can't do it one hour of one day.
36:42We've got to do it every day, 24 hours, making our voices heard.
36:50We are a force.
36:53We care about our country.
36:55We care about the people who live in this country.
36:58We care about providing them the ability to make an honest day's living for an honest
37:05day's work.
37:07That's what it's all about.
37:10That's what David is all about.
37:12That's what we're fighting for every single day.
37:17Because that is who we are.
37:21We are labor.
37:23And we move the agenda to support working families all over the country.
37:29And if somebody gets in our way, shame on them because we're going to run right over
37:35them, aren't we?
37:36Shame!
37:37It's time to make their voices heard.
37:40It is time to fight.
37:41You've heard all these speakers talking about the need for us to support David, support
37:48SEIU to support those workers, not only in California, but across this country.
37:55This is an attack on all of us.
37:58That's right.
37:59And shame on us if we don't get out there and fight like hell every single day and make
38:06our voices heard.
38:07We've got to do that because we are united.
38:10We are right and we're going to stand up and we're going to fight like hell every single
38:14day.
38:15Are you ready to fight?
38:16Yes!
38:17Are you ready to fight?
38:18Yes!
38:19Are you ready to fight?
38:20Yes!
38:21Are you ready to make your voices heard?
38:23Yes!
38:24Let's do it.
38:30Labor united will never be defeated.
38:44Labor united will never be defeated.
38:45That's right.
38:46We have just a few more speakers.
38:47I think some of you guys probably want to march, right?
38:48Yes!
38:49We're going to do that.
38:50So I'm going to ask a member of one of our key community organizations, a true partner
39:02in the movement, to come out and say a few words.
39:05She's a member activist of CASA.
39:07I'm going to ask Rosa, please come out here and say a few words.
39:15My name is Rosa and I am an immigrant who has called this country my home for the past
39:4040 years.
39:43I am a member of CASA, a national organization led by their members.
39:58We fight for the rights of our members, immigrant members, working class members.
40:13And racial justice, equality, and inclusion.
40:20Fighting for racial justice, equity, and inclusion.
40:24Fighting for our same families who continue to be oppressed in the very country they call home.
40:29Fighting for our same families who continue to be oppressed in the very country they call home.
40:43We are here raising our voices to ensure David Huerta is liberated, President of SCIU California.
41:02We are also here with our brothers and sisters from the immigrant community who have too unjustly been detained.
41:29You're here with our families.
41:35Enough is enough.
41:36We need to get the terror out of our streets called ICE.
41:40As an immigrant, I deeply feel the worry within our community.
41:59In these moments, these attacks are not a coincidence.
42:09They are systemic and racial attacks in an attempt to criminalize all black and brown
42:23people in this country.
42:37These moments are also felt in the constitutional crisis that we are currently in.
42:47Attempts to take away birthright citizenship.
42:51A direct attack to our fundamental freedoms and us as a people.
43:07We ask and demand for an immediate stop to ICE raids.
43:21That continue to terrorize our communities and terrorize all of our workers.
43:37Los trabajadores emigrantes son esenciales.
43:42Immigrant workers are essential.
43:44Alimentan a nuestra nación.
43:46They feed our country.
43:48Cuidan a nuestros mayores y construyen nuestros hogares.
43:52Take care of our elderly and construct our homes.
43:56Las comunidades inmigrantes merecen respeto.
44:00Immigrant communities deserve respect.
44:02We do not deserve persecution.
44:12We are the heart of this country.
44:14We will not accept additional fear or additional discrimination.
44:26We will not accept additional fear or additional discrimination.
44:30The time to fight and stand up is right now.
44:34This is why we are here today in D.C. and also in Pennsylvania marching and fighting.
44:53El pueblo unido jamás será vencido.
45:05El pueblo unido jamás será vencido.
45:12Now it is my honor to introduce a local leader, my partner, in the movement here locally.
45:20Please welcome, co-shop, executive, secretary treasurer of Unite Here, Local 25.
45:27Se puede?
45:31Si se puede!
45:33Se puede!
45:34Si se puede!
45:36Si se puede!
45:38I am here on the behalf of a quarter of a million janitor, of a quarter of a million housekeepers,
45:46dishwashers, servers in our union to say to SEIU and all who fight for justice, we stand with you!
46:00We stand with you in demanding the freedom for David Huerta, and we stand with you in
46:06demanding the freedom for anyone who has been illegally and immorally imprisoned by the ICE regime.
46:16We demand an end to the ICE raids, and we demand it now.
46:25We also know, all of us standing here, that this is not a one-day fight, as several of the speakers
46:31before me have said, this is a fight where more and more of us need to wake up every morning,
46:38go to work, but also say to ourselves, how are we fighting this racist, fascist, anti-immigrant regime?
46:50And sometimes, brothers and sisters, it's difficult when they haul people away in the darkness of
46:56night. But looking around here today, I am emboldened, because I know what all of us know,
47:03which, unfortunately, the Republicans and Trump and the Democrats who stand with them sometimes,
47:10they don't know that when we fight, we win!
47:12When we fight, we win!
47:14When we fight, we win!
47:16That's right. And rest assured, rest assured, we'll remember in November, come election time.
47:29Last but not least, you heard from national leaders, national elected officials. Now,
47:35we also had to hear earlier, Natalie Fani from the Montgomery County Council, who I know had to run,
47:41but we have a delegate, a Maryland state delegate, Jerry Solomon. Come up here. And then we march!
47:50Thank you, Jaime. Thank you all. On Pride Month, I see a rainbow of labor. I see a rainbow of our
47:56community here standing together. I want to give a special shout out to the AFT. I started my career
48:02as a teacher in Baltimore, proud BTU member. Thank you to all my brothers and sisters, my educators who are
48:09here today because they know how important this is to protect our kids, to protect our families.
48:14I'm going to be brief because we want to march. I just want to say an attack on one of us is an
48:19attack on all of us. That's right. And from coast to coast, whether we're standing together in
48:26California, whether we're standing together on the streets of DC, or we're standing together in the halls
48:31of Annapolis fighting for workers' rights, you are going to hear us. We are going to stand together,
48:36free David. Protect our communities. All right. Repeat after me. We will not be silenced.
48:50We will not be silenced. We will not be silenced. We will not be silenced. Enough is enough. Enough is
48:58Enough is enough.
49:00Enough is enough.
49:02Enough is enough.
49:04What do we want? Free David.
49:06What do we want? Free David.
49:08What do we want? Free David.
49:10When do we want it? Now.
49:12And when do we want it? Now.
49:14And when do we want it? Now.
49:16And if we don't get it? Shut it down.
49:18And if we don't get it? Shut it down.
49:20And if we don't get it? Shut it down.
49:22If we don't get it? Shut it down.
49:24If we don't get it? Shut it down.
49:26All right. So I know you guys are anxious to march and we are marching. Now all of our marches are obviously peaceful marches, which is what we always advocate for.
49:42We're going to march and we're going to go say a few things to the people in that building.
49:47But we're going to march on the sidewalk. On the sidewalk. So follow the people in the front over here. I'm going to ask President Saunders, President Pringle, President Shuler and labor leaders to go in the front over here.
50:05Don't cross yet, y'all. All right. You put them right here on the sidewalk right here. Let's go in the front and we're going to leave a little march.
50:13Let's go in the front of my sign.
