00:00Red Hope, which is why we've been going from town to town, drafting soldiers for an exploratory mission, as is the Federation's right by treat.
00:07She thinks she's coming to Manhattan, and she's not.
00:09You're not my mother.
00:11Jenny can go, but I can't.
00:12I'm only going because I have to.
00:14There is to be an exploratory mission, followed by a massive land invasion.
00:20So, we must be ready for an army of our own.
00:30Let's go.
01:00Let's go.
01:30Let's go.
01:32Let's go.
01:34Let's go.
01:36Let's go.
01:38Let's go.
01:42Let's go.
01:48Let's go.
01:50Let's go.
01:52Let's go.
01:54Let's go.
01:56Let's go.
02:06Let's go.
02:08Let's go.
02:10Let's go.
02:12Let's go.
02:28Let's go.
02:32Let's go.
02:34Let's go.
02:36Let's go.
02:38Let's go.
02:40Let's go.
02:42Let's go.
02:44Let's go.
02:46Let's go.
02:48Let's go.
02:50Let's go.
02:52Let's go.
02:54Let's go.
02:56Let's go.
02:58Let's go.
03:00Let's go.
03:06Let's go.
03:08Let's go.
03:10Let's go.
03:18Let's go.
03:20Let's go.
03:22Let's go.
03:32Let's go.
03:34Let's go.
03:36My teacher thought I might find some inspiration in Vivaldi.
03:49Not for me.
03:51Too, uh, light.
03:54My mom suggested Mozart.
04:06Too dry.
04:10Dad was a big Brahms guy.
04:14But I'm not even gonna play Brahms, because Brahms is the absolute fucking worst.
04:21And then...
04:23I found Bach.
04:36I found Bach.
04:39I found Bach.
04:40I found Bach.
04:41He was a sabia.
04:42He was a judge.
04:43He followed Bach.
04:45And then...
04:46Did he have God?
04:47And then we came to Bach.
04:48Give me all myάzee.
04:50It did he have good passar.
04:51I am not even gonna shade.
04:52The way I can find out.
04:53He was just a little but not the Barton.
04:54No matter where he was,
04:55the way he was just a little bit longer
04:56then I passed away.
04:57I felt a little bit more...
04:58He just said he was a little bit better.
04:59And he was a little bit better.
05:00He had no idea.
05:01He had no idea.
05:02He was a little bit better.
05:04Bach was full, layered, and exciting.
05:29So, even when my dad is being a tyrannical fucking asshole, I always had Bach.
05:41If I could just focus on Bach, then maybe I could get through another shitty lesson.
05:54Constable Hook will take us into the Hudson, then we'll dock at Pier 25.
05:58The Governor's Island can serve as cover in the events of an engagement.
06:02Engagement?
06:03It's an exploratory mission.
06:05Sure.
06:06But you never know, right?
06:11Back to your unit, soldier.
06:16I got it.
06:28A fairy.
06:32Croetta's gonna see us coming from miles away.
06:34How could you-
06:35Hey, hey.
06:36Sure.
06:37Look, a fairy's not discreet.
06:39But that's why the bay was chosen.
06:41No way he can see us from here, and with the element of surprise, we'll be a good one.
06:45But he already knows that you're coming, thanks to you.
06:48You told him who you were, right?
06:50Where he came from.
06:51He's probably been prepping for an invasion since the second that you escaped.
06:55He's smart and paranoid.
06:59You may not know how or when, but trust me, he knows that you're coming.
07:05If I'm gonna convince Governor Byrd to change things up at the 11th hour, you're gonna need
07:16to give me more than a hunch.
07:35Hey, the sail must be thirsty, no?
08:00We just received the signal.
08:02We can presume their ship is being loaded and fueled as we speak, but they will never
08:08reach the island, now that the others are with us.
08:12One.
08:14Just the one group.
08:15We're still waiting on Christos and Bruegel.
08:18Well, yes, but their services are not yet being required.
08:24My bourgeoisie have been preparing for this very circumstance for some time now.
08:27You'll be quite pleased, dama.
08:29This is a gift I received from Bruegel after your church service.
08:43Saturn.
08:44Are you familiar with it?
08:46No.
08:47Saturn devouring his son.
08:56As Roman myth goes, the Titan Saturn feared a prophecy that he would be overthrown by one
09:02of his offspring, so he decided to eat his children, one by one, as they were born.
09:11But the sixth child, Jupiter, tricked his father into eating a stone in his place.
09:19Other painters of his time, the academies, they shied away from ugliness and brutality.
09:29But not Goya.
09:30He was the father of modernism.
09:31A revolutionary.
09:32Right.
09:33So, what do you think of the plan?
09:48What do you think?
09:52Or are you too distracted, all a flutter at the thought of your family's arrival?
09:59Look, I think it's a solid plan.
10:09I do.
10:10It'll knock out the ship.
10:12But it certainly isn't a death blow.
10:16Like you said though, just the first wave.
10:20So, we just crank it up.
10:23We give them a 4th July laser light style spectacular.
10:28And not just for the ship, but their people back home.
10:31And also the folks that are on our side.
10:34You know, these gangs are having trouble making up their minds.
10:39Oh, Jesus Christ, let's just erase any lingering doubts, shall we?
10:45I think it is right.
11:00The two of us will work together to come up with a more spectacular element to our defense.
11:14The collection of pale.
11:19I think it's a good idea.
11:22How was we?
11:27How was we?
11:35What happened?
11:38The shrine is as a chimney.
11:42You holdin' up okay?
11:52Look, things may come out wrong before I come.
11:59That's on me.
12:02But it's just us here now.
12:06And we've only got each other.
12:08So if you need anything, I'm here.
12:30I got it.
12:38I got it.
12:41I got it.
12:44I got it.
12:46I got it.
12:47Let's go.
13:17Let's go.
13:27Mom?
13:30Herschel?
13:32What are you doing here?
13:34Crystal, let me take a horse and drag you.
13:38I was just sitting there after you left.
13:41Thinking about where you were headed, what could happen to you.
13:44I mean, they basically kidnapped you.
13:46What did you do when I was kidnapped? You just ran a fucking way.
13:48So...
13:52I'm sorry.
13:53It's okay.
13:55We'll keep you hidden tonight.
13:57But you are heading back first thing in the morning.
14:01What is all this?
14:06I'm sick enough.
14:11Just a cry?
14:13Then we gotta go.
14:18We gotta get out of here. We gotta get Ginny.
14:20I mean, if he knows they're coming, there's no way we can...
14:25Hey there, you too.
14:34You were spotted fleeing the camp, reserting.
14:35I wasn't fleeing. I wasn't fleeing.
14:37Which is why...
14:38Which is why...
14:39Which is why, soldier, you were being followed in the first place.
14:41Clearly your son was waiting to...
14:42Governor Bird, I...
14:43She was only following orders.
14:45I asked her to look for proof that Carrard knows we're coming.
14:48Does he?
14:50We found a smoke signal.
14:52That's how he communicates across the Hudson.
14:55She's right.
14:56I can vouch for that.
14:58And if he knows we're coming, he'll be ready.
15:00We need to postpone.
15:02Send a small group in a canoe, a raft, something...
15:05And leave our entire army behind?
15:07You can't be serious.
15:11We've been planning for months.
15:13Now is the time to strike.
15:16What's your take, Colonel?
15:23The Carrard might know we're coming.
15:25But not tonight.
15:27If we leave right away, we regain the element of surprise.
15:30Okay.
15:32We deploy immediately.
15:34Find General Hausman.
15:38Why the hell did you bring me here
15:39if you're not gonna listen to a damn thing that I say?
15:41Just me and my son
15:43and anybody else here who has got their head on straight
15:46are going home now.
15:47The law against raft evasion also applies to desertion.
15:50That is what you're fixed on right now, hanging me from a tree?
15:53No, not just you.
15:54You and the 20 soldiers you stood in for.
15:56Starting with that one right there.
16:04No.
16:09Insubordination is also a crime.
16:11Secure her in the shaft alley!
16:13Don't touch him!
16:14Put him in there!
16:15Put him in there!
16:16Don't touch him!
16:17He wasn't even supposed to be here!
16:19I don't see how detaining the boy's gonna solve anything.
16:21It's not a matter of opinion, Colonel.
16:23It's about the law.
16:26I just wanna run away his cochlear in the middle.
16:28He's fat man, brother.
16:29It's about the law.
16:30They're so good.
16:31It's about the law.
16:32You're so good.
16:33You're so good.
16:34You've got to be here.
16:35What's up?
16:36What's up?
16:37What's up?
16:38You're so good.
16:40Let's go.
16:41You're so bad.
16:42I try.
16:43That's right.
16:44You're so good.
16:45Sure.
16:46You're so good.
16:47You're so good.
16:49You're so good.
16:50You're so good.
16:51Hey, what's up?
16:52Yeah, must be excited bastards who try to execute you and I'll be facing your own execution at your hands
17:15Come on me, yeah, I saw ground
17:24No ladies back at the sanctuary
17:27You used to relish the chance to take down anyone who crossed us
17:37Only days after I arrived there was a group of
17:42savages
17:44They attacked our home
17:46Took us by surprise
17:49Demanding we hand over all provisions
17:52Naturally, we expected Negan to fight back, but
17:58To our astonishment
18:01He necly surrender as a show of respect Negan
18:08Wanted to honor the savages
18:10with a sort of
18:12Gosba
18:15Feast
18:17Lavish feast
18:19We would provide all the food, all the drinks, serve them
18:24We were utterly dismayed
18:26Where had our fearless leader gone?
18:29A meal like this you have never seen
18:31A meal like this you have never seen
18:33A meal like this you have never seen
18:39Bigger than before times, i'm talking ten Las Vegas buffets lined up in a row
18:51And then there was the main course
18:54And then there was the main course
18:55The meat
18:56Venison
18:57The finest that the forests of virginia could offer
19:02Let's see
19:04Let's see our guests
19:05They didn't get that meat now
19:09See at the last second
19:10I had my butcher switch it out
19:12For walker men
19:16If only you could have seen them
19:23Throwing their guts up all night
19:26Let's just say
19:29Let's just say by dawn
19:30Sanctuary's walker moats have grown considerably
19:34Main point is
19:39You
19:40You protected us
19:41And you gave our enemies
19:44Exactly what they deserve
20:10I know that you wanted to help
20:31But this is why i came here
20:34It's exactly the reason that i wanted to come by myself
20:38I mean jesus christ herschel
20:40Herschel
20:47Give us a minute
20:49I'm sorry
20:53I don't agree with this at all
20:55Okay then let us out
20:57You heard what made you not biased
20:58What she doesn't answer to you
20:59I thought that you're a colonel
21:01You punched her
21:02Then at least get them to turn the boat around
21:06And save the 50 innocent lives
21:07That are heading straight into an ambush
21:09Look maybe you're right
21:10Maybe the croat tries something
21:12But new babylon will fight back
21:14We're bigger
21:15Better equipped
21:16Better organized
21:17You are wrong
21:18You have got this blonde spot
21:20All of you
21:20You can't see it
21:22But you're so obsessed
21:24With getting back what you lost
21:25That you overlook anything
21:26That gets in your way
21:27That's not true
21:28You underestimate me
21:29Fine
21:30But do not underestimate the croat
21:32You know what he's capable of
21:37Let us go
21:40Let us all go
21:42I'm sorry
21:45No
21:47Hey
21:48Hey
21:49Oh
21:50Can you believe it?
22:13We are traveling to the city
22:16The same way that hundreds of thousands of laborers did
22:19Every single day
22:21Did you know this very ferry was
22:23connected to the lady
22:26Did you go on, we Roberto?
22:26I'm hungry
22:27I don't know
22:27You're didn't know
22:28I'm hungry
22:28I don't know
22:30I'm burnt
22:30I'm hungry
22:31I don't know
22:31I don't know
22:32Go on
22:32No
22:32Go on
22:33No
22:33声
22:53Get ready. Keep it tight.
23:06My god.
23:24Ironic to think the natural resource pulling them to the island would be the agent of their demise.
23:34The mechanism is beautiful in its simplicity.
23:38I had originally been contemplating a more elaborate strategy, but then an old mnemonic from my childhood floated into my mind.
23:47Something a secondary school chemistry teacher would recite for us.
23:53Forgive me for the bastardized translation. It won't sound nearly as poetic as the original.
24:02Sodium and water. What a fierce little pairing. Strongly exothermic, they come together in a flaming.
24:14Electrons transferring the water, releasing heat and light.
24:19Hydrogen and sodium hydroxide.
24:23Water side.
24:25Gaseous byproducts emitted in a plume.
24:29So be careful while you work.
24:32Or else you'll end up with a boom.
24:39Boom!
24:40That's it!
24:45Yeah!
24:46That's the thing!
24:47That's the thing!
24:48Ah!
24:49Oh, oh.
24:50Ah!
24:52Ha, ha.
25:10What the hell was that?
25:12The buoys.
25:13They're bombs.
25:14Methane bombs, I think.
25:15Some kind of trigger on impact.
25:16It's a minefield.
25:17Cut the engine and drop anchor immediately.
25:19Secure all units below deck.
25:21Yes, ma'am.
25:24Another one.
25:25Look out.
25:34Whatever orders you've been given,
25:35you've got to forgive them.
25:36I need you to help, okay?
25:38Did they give you the keys to our hands?
25:41Please, come back!
25:49Marshal, I need you to listen to me.
25:55There's a broken pipe above you.
25:57If you stand up, your handcuffs can reach the sharp part of it.
26:01Honey, please, I need you to listen to me
26:02because we've got to get off this boat right now
26:04and we don't have a lot of time.
26:05I fucked it up.
26:09I fucked it all up.
26:09I'm so sorry for what I said to you earlier.
26:14None of this is your fault.
26:16Marshal!
26:16Come on!
26:17What are you doing?
26:35Put your arms.
26:36Put your arms.
26:37Listen to me.
26:40I need you to follow me.
26:42Please.
26:43You came out here to help me run.
26:46That's what I need you to do.
26:48I know you can do it.
26:52Okay.
26:52Okay.
26:56If we stay anchored, I think it should buy us some time.
27:12Go, go, go.
27:12Go, go, go.
27:13Go, go, go, go.
27:17Jeannie, get this one.
27:18I got it.
27:19She's my mom.
27:21Go fight whoever you can and bring them here.
27:26What is that?
27:36Coming to burn.
27:37Watch out.
27:53Mom!
27:53Get the other cleat.
28:07Get the other cleat.
28:07All right, go ahead.
28:36Fire.
28:37Fire!
28:51Fire!
29:06Fire.
29:09Fire.
29:24You good?
29:27This way.
29:36Okay, fire.
29:50Fire!
30:06Fire!
30:12Fire!
30:16Fire!
30:36There's too many.
31:02We've got to move.
31:03Let's go this way.
31:04Come on.
31:04We've got to go.
31:05Let's move.
31:06Let's go back.
31:07Let's go back.
31:13Granted, it was our first battle, but what a route.
31:19It was resounding, explosive.
31:21Watched up near Pier 45.
31:41My name is Benjamin Pierce, and I'm just a writer, a historian.
31:49I'm not part of the army.
31:51Okay, I can prove it.
31:53Here.
31:53Here.
31:55Here.
31:55Here.
31:55These are my notes.
32:00Good to meet you, Mr. Pierce.
32:03I look forward to reading your history as soon as it's legible.
32:14Have we met before?
32:16And I very much doubt that.
32:19What would you like us to do with him, Derma?
32:22Let him visit with us for now, in case I have any questions.
32:27Oh, I almost forgot.
32:32Before we get to the celebrating, there's a loose end that needs tying up.
32:37Who were you trying to spare?
32:43Who were you trying to spare?
32:43Right on cue.
32:59You guys to see me?
33:09I don't know.
33:11I don't know.
33:12I don't know.
33:13It's Victor, right?
33:17Whatever you're planning, you take it out on me, not him.
33:22Wow.
33:23You made quite the impression.
33:26You've cracked his shell.
33:30That is no easy task.
33:33Trust me.
33:43I understand you play the violin.
33:55I understand you play the violin.
33:57I only ask because a violin was found at your station.
33:58You are very talented.
34:00You are very talented.
34:02That would certainly make an impression on me.
34:07And the last thing I would ever do is rob the world of what little is left of the artists and the visionaries.
34:18Are you a fan of classical music?
34:23Are you a fan of classical music, Mr. Pierce?
34:28Being a self-proclaimed historian, I'd imagine so.
34:38We would love to hear you play.
34:41We would love to hear you play.
34:43Please.
34:44It's okay.
34:45Take your time.
34:46It's not like your life depends on it.
34:48It's okay.
35:06Take your time.
35:08It's not like your life depends on it.
35:14It's not like your life depends on it.
35:26It's not like your life depends on it.
35:34It's not like your life depends on it.
35:40I was stalling because there was a kid.
36:10Brandon, kid, it didn't deserve to die.
36:40¶¶
37:10Bravo!
37:17Bravo.
37:19I have to say, hearing you play like that with so much control and expression in this sacred space brought me back.
37:31Brought me all the way back to the old days, the old city.
37:35I mean, Bach!
37:38He was the best of his time.
37:40The culmination of everything that had come before him.
37:46Or, another way to say it, he was the best at what everyone else had been doing for a time.
37:54A long time.
37:55He didn't change the world.
37:57He didn't imagine something new.
38:00He wasn't a revolutionary.
38:01He just perfected what had come before.
38:06Instead of pushing us forward, he chose to take us back.
38:13I am not interested in going back.
38:17No!
38:18No!
38:19No!
38:21No!
38:22Oh!
38:53You did good.
38:58Very, very good.
39:06All right. Now that we've taken care of that...
39:22That's them again. I saw a park up the street.
39:48It's dense, overgrown. We can hide out there till sunset at least.
39:56She's right. She's been right this whole time.
40:18Okay.
40:48I'm sorry about everything from before.
41:03I don't know what's going on with me. I just...
41:11Freaked out.
41:16I'm just...
41:20I'm glad you're okay.
41:21Okay?
41:29I love you, Mom.
41:39I love you, too.
41:40I'm glad you're okay.
41:41I love you, Mom.
41:43Go...
41:45Go...
41:47Go...
41:49Go...
41:53Go...
41:55Go...
41:57Go...
41:59Go...
42:00Nane sir.
42:01Let's move.
42:31We're making a lot of noise.
42:58We don't plan on staying.
43:02We've got the park surrounded.
43:04If the soldiers are dead, I'll find them.
43:06If they're not, I'll finish them off.
43:11Look out at the city.
43:13We get to build something new.
43:15Don't see what is or was.
43:18See what could be.
43:20Constable Hope will take us into the Hudson, then we'll dock at Pier 25.
43:31At the start of the season, Governor Byrd is very much in charge of New Babylon.
43:36She's sort of the general kind of leading her troops into battle.
43:41And Narvaez is kind of like her second in command.
43:45Back to your unit, soldier.
43:46Narvaez and Maggie meet in this season and they are completely at odds.
43:50For her, it's like, we have a goal.
43:52This is business.
43:53We have to get this methane.
43:54And she has a way of sticking to the rules and she sticks to them very well.
43:59Don't get in her way.
44:00We really see them face off against their philosophy, their approach to everything.
44:04And it makes for some really, really tense moments.
44:08It's really fun when you get to come head to head with someone and they're equal in so many ways
44:17and they see things so differently, but they can kind of climb the mountain the same,
44:20just on different sides of it.
44:22And that's what we got to do.
44:23It was awesome.
44:24Secure her in the shaft alley.
44:26Don't crush her.
44:27And put her in there too.
44:29When we were casting Narvaez, there really was never anybody but Dasha.
44:34We had had ideas of like what Narvaez could be.
44:36And she takes it and pluses it and pluses it out of this stratosphere.
44:41I remember on day one, she showed up and just immediately she just got all the little nuances of the character.
44:47Working with Dasha is amazing.
44:49She's a comedian.
44:50Am I alive?
44:51Am I alive?
44:52Welcome to Dead City, The Walking Dead.
44:56I'm alive.
44:57I'm alive.
44:58Don't worry.
44:59I'm here.
45:00Between setups, between takes, like she's cracking jokes.
45:01She's got the crew laughing.
45:03She's got the cast laughing.
45:05That's our, that's our team.
45:08Yeah.
45:09Yeah.
45:10I hope you're recording all this, right?
45:12Oh yeah.
45:13She's an amazing talent and so great to have her as a part of the show.
45:17I actually, if you notice, she has a gold tooth.
45:21And that was something that I came up with after I had met with the team.
45:26We were right about to shoot and I knew we didn't have time to do like create a gold tooth, but it was such an awesome idea.
45:34And I don't know why it just made sense for the character.
45:36It was just spot on.
45:38We painted the tooth at first for the first couple of scenes.
45:41I think it was one or two.
45:42And then I went about it and I've got my gold tooth.
45:45And here it is.
45:47The boat sequence was a huge sequence.
45:54They shot a majority of that on this stage where we built a giant replica of this boat.
46:01And there was explosions and stuff like that.
46:03It was so realistic.
46:05Three, two, one.
46:08Boom.
46:11There were some real explosions in there.
46:13You know, a lot of real stunts of people getting yanked off the boat and some real fire.
46:17And it was pretty crazy.
46:19And we shot some pieces on the actual boat is based on a real fairy.
46:22The production designer, you know, their whole team, they worked wonders.
46:26I think it shows and it turned out to be a really powerful sequence.
46:33Before we get to the celebrating, there's a loose end that needs tying up.
46:40Who are you trying to spare?
46:42Lisa Emery is returning this season as the Dama.
46:45And we're going to understand the Dama a lot more and what she's up to, what her goals are,
46:49and how she accomplishes those goals.
46:51Lisa is this most loving, cool lady you'll ever meet in your life.
46:56And she plays this off the charts lunatic.
47:00I am not interested in going back.
47:04No!
47:06There's something about both how Lisa and Jilko can play these characters that you don't want to f*** with them.
47:12Even Negan, when he was at his best in his best crazy time, you knew it was an act that he put on.
47:20With these two, you don't know.
47:21And I think that's a testament to both who they are as actors and the writing and all of it,
47:25and what they're able to bring to the table.
47:27And able to pull it off and make it believable.
47:30You have to have two great actors.
47:32And that's-
47:33And that's-
47:34And that's-
