One of the injured survivors of the chartered bus crash in Gerik says she smelled something burning in the moments leading up to the accident.

Nur Irdina Huri, 22, also claimed the bus was speeding and swerved erratically while descending a hilly stretch of road.

00:19Upsi, says she noticed warning signs before the crash. The injured survivor said she
00:26smelt something burning in the moments before the accident. She also recalled the bus speeding
00:32and swerving erratically while going down a hill. Another survivor, 21-year-old Aliyah
00:38Mysara Azizani, said there was a frightening descent near Jelly, where the bus suddenly
00:43accelerated and hit a pothole, nearly veering off the road. The driver slowed down briefly,
00:49then suddenly sped up again. Moments later, she watched as the bus took a sharp turn,
00:55veered left, and crashed into the road divider. Speaking from the Garrick police headquarters,
01:00Aliyah said she heard other students screaming for help. Both survivors are now recovering with
01:05their families. The fatal crash occurred around 1.10am at Kilometer 53 of the East-West Highway
01:12near Tasikbanding. A total of 48 victims were accounted for, including 15 who perished. 13 died at the
01:21scene while two died at the hospital. Of the 33 injured, seven victims are in critical condition.
