In Venezuela’s Communal Councils, residents are shaping their future through direct democracy—nominating leaders from their own communities who have proven their dedication to the revolutionary process. This participatory model, rooted in Bolivarian socialism, empowers locals to propose candidates without restrictions, ensuring leadership reflects the people’s needs.

00:00This Saturday, the Great Patriotic Poll of Venezuela held popular assemblies in communities throughout the country
00:05so that militants could nominate their candidates for the municipal elections on July 27th.
00:10Our correspondent, Chad Afo, has more details in the following report.
00:1824 hours to mobilize the grassroots members of the Great Patriotic Poll
00:22and submit their nominations for consulars and mayor.
00:25Throughout Venezuela, the challenge was great for community leaders.
00:28And in Caracas, it was made even greater by the rainy weather that day.
00:33But in the Primero de Mayo community, in the Liberador Municipality, the residents were prepared and responded to the call.
00:41All communities are equal. All communities are ready and willing.
00:45We are defending the revolutionary process with all our strength, preserving peace in our country, of course,
00:50and giving the people who are the protagonists of all this a voice.
00:54As assemblies, the residents of each communal council freely propose their candidates,
01:04with no limit on the number of nominations, until everyone feels that the list is satisfactory.
01:09Most of the names suggested for consulars are people from the community itself,
01:13who have distinguished themselves for their dedication and commitment to the people.
01:17The ones I appoint are people from the community who have fought hard in the revolution,
01:25and we choose them because they have helped the community a lot.
01:30Real politics, of walking and knowing what our community needs, just as what street leaders do,
01:38is what the territorial leaders and the entire political team do,
01:41because we are based on working hard to meet the needs of the people.
01:44This popular participation from the very first step of the electoral process,
01:53and not just on the election day,
01:54is a distinctive feature of the Venezuelan democracy inherited from the revolutionary principles.
02:01I believe that one of the processes that the Great Patriotic Poll has improved
02:05is this one, the nomination process,
02:08and that it is the crash of the teams who nominate the candidates,
02:11since previously, it was, let's vote for this person, now we ourselves.
02:16The grassroots teams, those of us who come from territories,
02:21nominate the people we believe are suitable to be our candidates at the national level.
02:25In Venezuela's 335 municipalities,
02:34organized communities will have until Sunday to hold their assemblies.
02:38In the coming days, an internal party process will decide from among the nominations submitted
02:42who will be the final candidates for the mayor and council elections,
02:46scheduled for July 27 of this year.

02:54Now we have our first ride coming up. Remember to join us.
