AccuWeather's Tony Laubach wraps up what has been a wild and busy week of storm chasing in the High Plains region of the U.S. He recaps towering tornadoes, hail and significant flooding.
Transcript
00:00Well, the month of June has gotten off to a very rowdy start in terms of severe weather starting all the way back on Monday.
00:06Folks from Wyoming to Texas have been dealing with all forms of severe weather throughout the week.
00:13The work week began with severe storms across the central high plains.
00:17From Wyoming, where ominous clouds filled the skies near pine bluffs.
00:21From Colorado, where a menacing wall cloud twisted in the skies near Sterling.
00:25While no tornadoes came from this storm, hail and strong winds hammered the town of Sterling in the northeast part of the state.
00:33On Thursday, it was the southern high plains' turn, and this time, tornadoes were the headliner.
00:42West of Lubbock, near the town of Morton, this massive wedge tornado churned in open country outside of town.
00:47This jaw-dropping sight was short-lived as the tornado wrapped up in rain and dust,
00:51only showing itself on occasion as the storm marched toward Lubbock.
00:55But it wasn't the only tornado.
00:57These two tornadoes, one a wedge, touched down near Rees Center a few miles from the west side of Lubbock.
01:02Fortunately, the tornadoes ceased as the storm moved into town.
01:06Flash flooding was widespread in the storm's wake as streets were flooded all over the city,
01:09and more severe weather moved through the area overnight,
01:12as this storm north of Lubbock in Plainview at 2 a.m. sending leaking water into hotel rooms.
01:18My room is leaking.
01:19Friday saw more severe weather, this powerful supercell marching southeast across three states into Friday evening.
01:26Spearman, Texas, took the brunt of this tornadic supercell as a developing tornado passed right over town, bringing intense wind.
01:32Fortunately, the worst of the storm spared the city, leaving only minor flooding behind.
01:37The severe weather threat will linger into the early part of the week.
01:42Make sure you have the AccuWeather app downloaded, and make sure those push notifications are enabled
01:47so that you receive warnings directly to you for the area you are in,
01:51as that severe weather threat will continue into the early part of the week.
01:54Reporting for AccuWeather, I am meteorologist Tony Laubach.
