00:00As we get into the evening, over my shoulder behind me, we're looking at some of those developing storms.
00:04This one recently severe warned just to the north and northwest of North Platte.
00:09North Platte technically named in the warning, but this is moving off to the north pretty quickly.
00:13This storm not particularly going to pose a threat to the city of North Platte, other development to the south.
00:19That is something we will be continuing to watch for folks here in the North Platte area.
00:22Let's show you the radar here out of North Platte because we're lining storms up along a boundary,
00:26basically from I-80 and points north, and we've got a couple of those severe thunderstorm warnings,
00:31again, warned for up to golf ball-sized hail, and those have happened pretty quickly.
00:35We saw those storms basically go up, and then the initial warning was saying golf ball hail.
00:41So we're seeing some very high-speed updrafts that are able to generate such large hail very, very early in the life cycle of these storms.
00:49That is bad news, but it's also good news because right now that is going to be the primary threat with these storms.
00:54As they are moving mostly to the due north at this point, expecting basically the line to start to push east.
01:02So we'll see these storms not necessarily right movers like you hear us talk about all the time,
01:07but we'll just see kind of an acceleration to the east as the upper energy starts to work over in this area.
01:13We do have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect here.
01:15This is 11 o'clock tonight, pretty much for most of western Nebraska up into South Dakota.
01:21This was issued within the last couple hours.
01:23It's a lengthy watch because, again, we're not seeing a lot of eastward motion in these storms initially.
01:27The large hail up to 2 inches plus could see some baseball-sized hail with some of the stronger updrafts,
01:32and damaging winds are going to be the main factor.
01:35But it is tornado week.
01:36That means that there is a potential for a couple of tornadoes, mainly on the south cells.
01:41That is my concern for folks along the I-80 corridor and points south.
01:45You saw there on the radar we have those big severe storms.
01:47That is one of the storms that we are expecting to be probably the most problematic in terms of some of the larger hail reports and the better tornado threat.
01:59Not expecting a large tornado threat tonight.
02:01Expecting maybe one or two if storms can get an eastward motion to them and acquire some of that low-level rotation.
02:09But you see behind me kind of the darker clouds.
02:12These are high-base storms.
02:13We talk about that several times.
02:14We talk about these storms that are very high-base, meaning that rotation has much, much further to go to connect down to the ground.
02:20So that's going to be the issue initially here.
02:23So not expecting the tornado threat to ramp up probably until after about 7 o'clock local time, 7 o'clock central time.
02:29That's when we'll start to see the concern for tornadoes again, mainly on the south end of the line.
02:33So that is going to be the storms that I'm going to be paying the most attention to.
02:36That also is going to allow me to make my eastward movement because this is just going to be the appetizer, guys, to what is expected to be a very stormy next couple of days.
02:45Unfortunately for me, that means a drive across Nebraska and Iowa to get into position in Illinois tomorrow.
02:51All right, Tony.
02:51We'll be safe.
02:52And I know this is the anniversary of your very first chase many years ago.
