00:00A 380-metre-long, four-lane bridge connecting southern Penang to Silicon Island will be
00:08built under the Pan Island Link 2A project and is expected to open to the public by December
00:142028.
00:16Chief Minister Chao Konyao, who visited the site on Friday, said construction will begin
00:21in June, with the first phase slated for completion by mid-2027 to support the opening of Silicon
00:27Island's first factory that year.
00:30The RM390 million PIL2A phase 1 includes 1.5 kilometres of infrastructure linking Permatang
00:38Damar-Laut to Silicon Island.
00:41It will also connect the island to the second Penang Bridge and the Penang International Airport
00:47via an elevated highway.
00:49A 378-metre temporary bridge has already been completed to facilitate ongoing works.
00:57To support those affected by the development, a community hub will be built on 0.8 hectares
01:03of land at Permatang Damar-Laut.
01:06It will feature a new village community management council hall, food stalls, restaurants, a fishermen's
01:12one-stop service centre and a shed for fishermen.
01:16Water supply needs will be met with a suction tank and pump house near the community hub,
01:21scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
01:25Penang Infrastructure Corporation CEO Datuk Sri Farizan Darus estimated the total cost of the
01:32community facilities and water infrastructure at RM36 million.
01:38He said the hub would serve locals and attract tourists, boosting the local economy.
01:43Silicon Island is a 930.78 hectares reclamation project owned and led by the Penang State Government,
01:52marking its first direct involvement in such an initiative to drive long-term economic growth.
