00:00The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has seized the 274-meter-tall Ilham Tower located

00:07in the Kuala Lumpur city centre.

00:09This is the anti-graft agency's second time seizing the tower, after making a similar

00:13seizure on December 21, 2023.

00:17In a statement, MACC said it received authorization from the Deputy Public Prosecutor to seize

00:22the tower on Jalan Bin Jai today.

00:25The tower, which belongs to the late former Finance Minister Daim Zai Nguyen and his family,

00:29was seized two years ago under Section 38 Sub 1 of the MACC Act, which deals with the

00:34seizure of immovable property.

00:36The anti-graft agency previously said it could seize the tower for up to 18 months pending

00:40investigations.

00:41MACC said today's seizure was made under Section 51 Sub 1 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism

00:47Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

00:52Last month, the Graft Busters opened eight new investigation papers into high-value assets

00:57linked to Daim and his family members after receiving new information from overseas.

01:03Earlier this week, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted MACC a court order to freeze 132 million

01:08pounds worth of assets in London belonging to Naima Khalid, the widow of Daim, and her family.
