00:00Tuesday and Wednesday this week, members of the Chipotle Police District and a number of other units from across New South Wales Police Force assisted in Operation Suppress, which was a two-day operation involving a number of policing activities, including search warrants for firearms prohibition orders, pawnbroker inspections, tattoo parlour inspections, drug dog operations, knife-winding legislation,
00:27and culminated in the arrest of a number of people for a number of firearms, drug and property related offences.
00:34Yes, certainly we located a number of firearms, one of them which was stolen a number of years earlier.
00:40We located some other stolen property and some quantities of drugs, so we have charged a number of people with firearm and drug related matters.
00:47It's just an initiative that we had here at Chipotle Police District where we looked at how we can go into each of our areas and target a number of crime activities.
00:56and a number of policing operations that we could actually do to saturate an area.
01:01So that way we had a complete response to a number of crime types and sort of seek those results and surge into those areas and show our policing capabilities.
01:11In relation to the search warrants and firearms prohibition order searches that we undertook, it obviously comes back to intelligence, which we get from the community,
01:18which we're always grateful for, and we encourage anyone to speak to Crimestoppers.
01:23In relation to some of those other locations, like the table parlours, like the wool hide and skin dealers,
01:28that's just basically compliance, ensuring that they're complying with the legislative requirements that they have.
01:33We have done a number of these operations now and we continually see illegal firearms,
01:39derivative drugs being located, but the other factor that people need to know within the community is that we can do this.
01:48We can surge into an area, we have capabilities to be able to do that and we will continue to do that
01:54and we'll have that strong presence to make sure that illegal activity is just cracked down in our community.
