00:00Oh
00:30Wow this is picturesque. India really has it all though. It really does, yeah.
00:36You ready? Selfie. Is that made it? No I missed you which is good.
00:44Ghir National Park. The only place outside of Africa where lions still roam
00:52in the wild. These big cats were hunted close to extinction before 1900.
00:59When the Navab of Junagurd turned his hunting ground into India's first wildlife sanctuary.
01:08And today it's home to a thriving population of lions once more.
01:13Oh look down there. It's beautiful.
01:19It's just an oasis of calm. And it makes the stress of the race so worth it.
01:25Being on a safari is amazing. Not thinking about the race.
01:28Just, yeah, having this experience together.
01:32It's lovely just to drive around. It's lovely isn't it really?
01:35It is. Being in the trees. To feel the wind in your hair.
01:40How fast can lions run? 60. 60 kilometres.
01:44And how fast can this go?
01:45Oh my gosh. Oh! There's a lion in the car.
01:55That is so magical. That is so gorgeous.
02:00That's incredible. I didn't think we were going to see this at all.
02:04The lion down on a snooze in the middle of the road. Wow!
02:14Oh my god. That was superb.
02:16It was, wasn't it mate? It was great.
02:18Oh god.
02:19That, that, that, that is genuinely a serious one in a lifetime I think.
02:22I think that exciting thing just surprised me yet again.
02:25Good morning sir. Morning mate.
02:39Good morning sir. How are you?
02:405.25am. This is for you sir.
02:43Thank you. Thank you so much sir.
02:45As Brian and Melvin were first to reach the checkpoint, they're now first to leave.
02:51All right, we'll go and have a look.
02:54In the penultimate leg, just six and a half hours separate the brothers and last place.
03:00The closest the race has been so far.
03:05See where we're going.
03:07Are you ready?
03:08Yeah.
03:10Your seventh checkpoint is Panaji.
03:12Panaji.
03:15Panaji.
03:16Never heard of it.
03:19It's here.
03:20Bloody hell mate, well spotted.
03:22Ooh, it's on the coast.
03:24That could be sea sand and beer.
03:27Almost 1500 kilometres south of Sasangir.
03:33Panaji, the capital of Goa, India's smallest state.
03:39Until 1961, it was under the yoke of Portuguese colonial rule.
03:45Now it's palm fringed beaches are visited by both nesting turtles and millions of tourists each year.
03:52The decision we've got to make is, do we go back on ourselves using the same route,
04:00or do we cut across the bay?
04:03The first decision, how to get off the Kartiavar Peninsula.
04:09They could opt for a ferry, but with only two crossings a day, timing the connection is key.
04:16Or retrace their steps north on land before heading south to Goa.
04:21The ferry brings you all the way south to South.
04:26It's going to save you 12 hours.
04:27It's a day, it's a day.
04:29Once off the peninsula, a choice.
04:32Skirt the Konkan coastline via the megacity of Mumbai.
04:36A more direct but popular route where demand for tickets is high.
04:44Or veer inland through the Deccan Traps, one of the largest igneous areas of the world.
04:50Here they may avoid the crowds, but could add mileage to their journey.
04:56But Mumbai's one of the busiest cities in India.
04:59Beat, beat, blah, blah, smog, smog.
05:02You don't want to go to Mumbai?
05:04I'm not that bothered about it. I would sooner go in the countryside.
05:08Yeah, I'm well up for that.
05:10Right, OK.
05:12We've got a very early start, which gives us a chance to get to the ferry port.
05:15We need to get there as quickly as possible.
05:18OK.
05:20If we're going to win this race, we've got to take a chance.
05:23We could stretch a lead by taking the chance now.
05:27Thanks very much, my friend. Thank you.
05:29If we could get to that ferry port, knowing that, let's say there was only one ferry, and another couple turns up as the ferry's pulling away, I think it'd be cruel, wouldn't it?
05:38We're away.
05:39OK, let's go.
05:43Leaving the checkpoint two hours behind the leaders.
05:46Wow, we're going down.
05:48Oh, Panaji.
05:49Wow, OK.
05:50Caroline and Tom.
05:52Right, what I really want to do is go the most direct route to checkpoint.
05:57Straight down.
05:58I think Mumbai might be a really good option, possibly a time to try a train.
06:05Yeah.
06:06I think we have to brave it.
06:07It would be good for connections.
06:08I know we're a bit threatened by bigger cities, but this is leg seven.
06:13It started off as a marathon in China, and we're basically now on the sprint.
06:18So I think this is really important that we face our fears.
06:22So rather than being worried by Mumbai and avoiding it, we're actually going to try and use it as the best connection for our race.
06:30I'm feeling weirdly excited about this leg.
06:33I have no idea what Mumbai has in store for us, but I'm keeping my mind open.
06:38Right, what are we doing, tuk-tuk?
06:40Try a hitch.
06:44Hi, could you take us into the bus station, please?
06:48We've already relinquished our first place, and that doesn't feel good.
06:51We really want to battle to get that back, so we will have to really dig deep.
06:59This is a good start.
07:00Great start.
07:07Where do we buy tickets from?
07:10Ticket. Thank you, mate.
07:12Already at the ferry port, current race leaders, Brian and Melvin.
07:18Well, at least we made it.
07:19Well, I'll let you know when I've got a ticket in my hand, all right?
07:21Yeah.
07:23We don't know how much it is, so...
07:24Whatever it is.
07:26This is the gamble we're taking.
07:28Hello.
07:29Hello.
07:30Hello.
07:31Can we please have two tickets to get over the water?
07:35To Surat.
07:36Two class available, 850.
07:38Business class, one ticket price.
07:40Second class, sleeper class, 900.
07:41Second class, sleeper class, 900.
07:44Okay.
07:44Well, take business then.
07:45Is that...
07:46What's business?
07:47Yeah, it's 850.
07:48Business is 850.
07:50850.
07:50For sleeper class, 900.
07:52What's the cheapest?
07:53850.
07:56850.
07:57850.
07:57So 850 is the cheapest.
07:59Well figured out.
07:59Melvin, when we were younger, used to beat me up.
08:03That's a fact.
08:03There's no...
08:04I honestly do not remember that.
08:06You did.
08:07You used to get me in headlocks.
08:09Well, it's always worth tripling.
08:11What about the second class?
08:13There ain't just...
08:13He's just said two classes available, business or sleeper.
08:16You're not listening.
08:18You reckon I need me a syringer.
08:21But nowadays...
08:22We have had different opinions occasionally.
08:25We both support the same football team.
08:26Yeah.
08:27But, er...
08:28I don't think we're the bickering type.
08:31I think we might have achieved our aim today.
08:33I think we're in front on the first night.
08:36How long would it take you, do you think,
08:38to get on the bus to go from where we were
08:41to Surat by road?
08:43How long? Or rail?
08:44At least two days.
08:45Two days.
08:46So, in theory, we could have sneaked a day.
08:50It is possible that the teams can make it here and catch this ferry.
08:54Well, nobody else here.
08:55It's early days, Melv.
08:57Oh, no, it is.
08:58So, let's not count our chickens.
09:01I don't think many will actually not do what we're doing.
09:07Arnold's so keen on the ferry.
09:09Yeah.
09:10Next to depart...
09:11Hello.
09:12Can we go to bus stop?
09:14Bus stop.
09:14Bus stop, yeah.
09:15Yeah.
09:16Elizabeth and Letitia.
09:17Let's do this.
09:18We're only a couple of hours behind.
09:22Like, anything could happen.
09:23Yeah, I think the more I'm getting closer to the finale,
09:27the more competitive I'm getting.
09:28Chalo, chalo, chalo.
09:29Go, go, go, go.
09:31Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
09:34Maybe we can get a train.
09:36Train to Mumbai?
09:37To go straight down.
09:39Yeah.
09:40Sticking to roads and rail, the sisters plan to head north off the peninsula
09:46before picking up speed along the coast.
09:48I feel like there's more pressure when everyone's so close.
09:52Like, there's no room for mistakes, there's no room for taking over on transportation,
09:56there's no room for error.
09:59Right.
10:00I want to do what we did last leg, but faster.
10:03Ready to start chasing down their competitors?
10:06Let's go.
10:07Finn and Seanette.
10:08Brian and Melvin are first, but only six hours ahead of us.
10:12Considering we've just caught up about 26 hours, that's easily doable.
10:17It's all to play for and it shows that it's possible with what we've just done.
10:20So, for the next leg and the last leg.
10:24First.
10:25First.
10:28All along the coast to Mumbai, I think it's probably the fastest option.
10:32Hoping to replicate their successful strategy of back-to-back transport,
10:37the couple plan to make for Vadodara before the day is out.
10:43Could try hitchhike.
10:44Okay.
10:46Three.
10:47Three.
10:47No.
10:49No.
10:49No.
10:51We know we need to be communicating with locals more.
10:53I feel like I'm growing in confidence.
10:56For the next two legs, we need to ask a lot more questions
10:59to get a lot of people's help.
11:00Without asking questions, we definitely wouldn't have got as far.
11:04Please stop.
11:05Please stop.
11:06Yay!
11:07Oh, my God.
11:08To the bus station.
11:10Oh, wow.
11:10Yay.
11:11Thank you very much.
11:14That worked well, though.
11:16That was unbelievable.
11:17We should be proud of ourselves for that.
11:23Hello.
11:24We're trying to get to the Bhavnagar.
11:26Bhavnagar.
11:27Yeah.
11:27Yeah.
11:28Bus.
11:28Bus.
11:29Bus.
11:29Two tickets.
11:30Perfect.
11:31Perfect.
11:31Thanks, sir.
11:32Bus.
11:33Bus.
11:33One of the other way along the coast towards Bhavnagar, Caroline and Tom have made it to
11:38Diu, 98 kilometres south-east of Sassangir.
11:42linked to Gujarat's southern coast by a bridge it's home to a 16th century fort standing watch
11:51over the Arabian Sea I like things like this this obviously restoring this it's lovely though Thomas
12:00should we pop a squat yeah pop a squat the further we get the closer we're getting towards the finish
12:08line now I think we should try and just work on helping each other as much as we can because it's
12:13only going to get more stressful it was easier to start with because I felt I had a more maternal
12:19role so I was helping you and now I don't know if I'm frightened making the wrong decision last leg
12:23there was one point where I was kind of left to make a big decision and then you didn't help me
12:28as much as I would have liked you're a very confident person but but when it comes to making a decision I
12:34feel like you're kind of holding yourself back a little bit but Thomas you must be aware at home
12:39I'm not used to making decisions the last 20 years I haven't had to make them I think you're worried
12:45that when you go home it was gonna slip back into normal life yeah I have been perhaps getting a
12:52little bit stuck in a rut I'd like that to change I want you to back yourself a bit more you're still
12:59my amazing mum I'd really love to know that I am capable of doing whatever I choose to do in the
13:08future we're gonna go a beach because I was quite capable before and I'd like to feel I am capable
13:14again just feels really tropical already it does oh my god look at this it's incredible isn't it and we
13:23were in jungle only two hours away oh my god it's beautiful it is lovely you inevitably sacrifice so
13:31much to be a parent you willingly do it but it often takes a toll on you and I think that contributes
13:37to making you a little bit old and possibly in my case boring Thomas oh no way he's going up I
13:48don't know how many summers I've got left it would be shame not to live life to the full wow that looks
13:55so fun do you think you'd ever do that god yes definitely yes maybe I don't have to do what others
14:03think might be expected of me tell us we've got to be at the bus station
14:09they let us off first which is good yeah I feel like any minute I'm gonna get run over by a motorbike
14:20after catching the last ferry of the day Brian and Melvin are the only team to have made it off the
14:27peninsula my gut feeling is that we're still ahead at the moment we didn't see anybody else on the ferry
14:34and we've got to capitalize on that job done yes 470 kilometers north
14:43Finn and Sean Ed are trading sleep for speed on an overnight bus to Vododora
14:52we're loud but we can't complain it was about £2.50 each for the tickets yeah it's so much going on
15:04whoa I'm so tired I don't think it's worth going to the ferry plotting their route and we already
15:23have a solution staring us in the face barring disaster we get there tomorrow morning we're
15:27exactly where we want to be let's do it Caroline and Tom have found a 15-hour bus that is bloody
15:35good I think that will take them all the way to Mumbai on the move on the way to Mumbai let's go
15:47to the bus station last to secure transport off the peninsula please stay straight and we can ask along
15:54the way Elizabeth and Leticia are determined to reach palgar a town 87 kilometers north of Mumbai hello is
16:07there direct please to palgar direct okay and then palgar how long 10 hours 10 hours well we know there's a bus
16:23a bus to surat in 15 minutes but that would require us changing again yeah so it's not really ideal
16:32should we just go to a train station okay maybe that's a direct train yeah yeah I have a good
16:40feeling Leticia with the gut and sense I feel like that chat the last leg definitely um benefited us and
16:48yeah I feel like we are more comfortable around each other we are communicating better we are um yeah
16:54cooperating yeah it's working out for us yeah ready let's go searching for a better option
17:01leticia's hunch take a gamble on the trains hello we want to go to howard guy we want to go that's good
17:13okay yes we want to get back to him I definitely think that literature has changed from the younger
17:20sister that I remember when we were growing up I feel like you've definitely got a knack for it she
17:31is more determined than I thought and maybe even more determined than she thought as well now she
17:37can't even go back on herself she can't say that she can't do things because it's very very clear that
17:41she can do a lot I was so confident in that so it's a good decision okay that's good your
17:49confidence gave me conscience I think it worked really well yeah this first leg we would have jumped
17:57on that bus I thought yeah I think I still would have jumped on the bus if it wasn't for you so yeah
18:04yeah feeling happy we have worked onward travel so we're on the move
18:18plan of attack is to get to Nashik the wine capital of India I'll leave the wine to Brian I think on
18:24this quite happy with that you've got your paracetam keen to swerve Mumbai Brian and Melvin are the
18:30only team heading inland to a region known for its 175,000 acres of vineyards we support Derby County in
18:44India we only know Manchester City and Manchester United yeah that's the trouble you see they need to
18:49learn about a proper football club hey so you guys are visiting India yeah so we're going down to there
18:57when you go when you go on the way you're going to value in vineyard yeah when you reach Nashik there
19:07are local buses got the whole bus involved everybody's helping these guys are doing near you can replace
19:19they will help you thank you there's a plan the plan is formulating right brilliant that's very helpful
19:25without the people like you we we get lost you're brilliant thank you thank you thank you thank you
19:35thank you thank you we're getting close up and smell the wine quite a way actually is that yeah it was a
19:43five-hour bus trip it's eight hours long day it is what it is bro we'll get there today but it's not
19:53that bad really is it could be snowy 340 kilometers to the north the Gujarati city of a Dodorah
20:09this means across India on myriad street corners chai vallas serve up steaming cups of sweet
20:23spiced tea from the roadside stalls Vishnu has been serving his local community for over 30 years
20:31wow that's a lot of sugar hello chai and for Finn and Sean Ed with the lowest remaining budget of any team
20:41it's an opportunity to earn some rupees there we go one iced tea three chai okay how long are you guys in India about four weeks all together is this yours yes yes there you go thank you so yeah
20:49now we're working our way to Mumbai now nice yeah after Mumbai after Mumbai we're going to Panjim down south
21:07Shred's got on I think better than me she's got stuck in thank you thank you I already see that she is gaining confidence
21:11well it was hard for the star and I do think slowly she's overcome a lot of challenges good poor natural
21:26there we go thank you there we go to try I've been chatting away to some customers and yeah it's been nice
21:38nice okay this race is off the scale something to be proud of it's nice to say I am proud of something
21:51because normally it's just I'm proud to be Welsh finish finish yeah it's really good so far we're going to
22:04Goa that's a good game is it nice I haven't been there you haven't it's a dream for all in yeah
22:10really oh wow do you know if this trains from Mumbai to Goa yeah it's a there's a direct train direct it's
22:19always for you but you have to be booked like a couple of months ahead one of the reason I canceled my
22:25plans for Goa was that I didn't got any reservation in three oh okay that's made me nervous now months in advance
22:34months in advance
22:37bye Vishnu
22:40I've got a bit of nerves about getting out of Mumbai because of what the woman at the chai shop said
22:49I mean on this stage in the race it's really hard to make decision because you really cannot go wrong
22:55only 50 rubies 50 rubies perfect any hold-ups can cost us a lot
23:04while Finn and Sean Ed consider their options
23:07so you go up with the ladder just 60 kilometres to the north I actually wasn't nice being at the top here
23:16you could see everything Elizabeth and Leticia are trying something new
23:24it's our first sleeper train on this race today where it's gone really really well actually I'm really
23:32learning from Leticia because I think Leticia's got
23:36it's magic instincts
23:39your feet hanging out a little bit
23:41oh I don't think I like that like just people walking past
23:44there get a lovely stench
23:50I thought it was actually more comfortable than some of the beds
23:55well I don't know what we let ourselves in for
23:57No, neither do I
23:59I really don't
24:00after more than 10 hours on the road
24:02it does seem a bit of light out doesn't it
24:05completely off the beaten track
24:07I'm thinking how are we going to get away from here tomorrow
24:10Brian and Melvyn have finally arrived at their destination
24:14Hiya! Hi!
24:16the Valenay vineyards in Igartpure
24:18on the outskirts of Nashik
24:22we've made good progress today but it's been a very long day
24:25very tiring day
24:26this is your home sir please
24:29alright
24:32have you got a room with two beds?
24:34no we don't have any
24:35I can give you some mattress
24:38that's it and
24:39yeah can we have another mattress?
24:40another mattress then yeah?
24:41yeah no problem
24:42I'll do that
24:43we've paid four and a half thousand rupees for the room here
24:45it's the most expensive room that we've had in the whole of India
24:49do you get many people stay here the one single rooms in there?
24:55we are taking only for the marriage call
25:00well I'm going to put the kettle on
25:02I'm going to have a cup of tea
25:12alright let's roll
25:13the first team to set foot in Mumbai
25:16are you ready?
25:17let's go
25:19Caroline and Tom are looking for a way out
25:22have you seen anything like it?
25:25this is really quite something
25:26once an archipelago
25:35Mumbai was initially composed of seven islands
25:38that were joined together under the watch of the East India Company in the 19th century
25:44today
25:46home to 21 million people
25:48it's known as the city of dreams
25:52is it possible to book tickets here please?
25:55I want to go to Panji as close as possible
25:59one way, two people please
26:01not this, not here
26:03you can't do it here
26:05oh no
26:06sorry?
26:08ok
26:10he's just told me to wait
26:14hello, sir, do you speak English?

26:18oh, thank you
26:19hello, sir, do you speak English?
26:21trying to go to Panji

26:27you can go to Churchgate
26:28from Churchgate you book a ticket
26:30lovely, ok, thank you so much
26:32ma'am
26:34I found the answer
26:36you can only go within the state at this station
26:38because this is a local train station
26:40ok
26:41well done
26:42but the train is not very fun
26:43but we are going to conquer it
26:47right, platform 5
26:48yep
26:49oh
26:50it's quite a busy train station
26:52oh my god
26:56the pair must master a train network
26:59that carries over 7.5 million commuters every day
27:02ok

31:04right
31:05at an altitude of 2,000 feet
31:08India's wine capital Nashik is framed by the 150 million year old western ghats
31:15a mountain range older than the Himalayas

31:47Brian doesn't like to come second
31:49he beat me at rummy cup

33:20you know it's because
33:21yeah when we come to places like this and we think well we're going to do a little bit of work
33:24and then you think well we can actually chill for a few hours it's nice
33:31this race has pulled something out of us I think
33:34I think it has brought us together
33:37I think the last few weeks we've found out we're more similar than we think
33:41yeah similar traits
33:42we are sharing things more now we're not just Brian on his own or Melvin on his own
33:47it's Brian and Melvin
33:48yeah
33:49yeah
33:50and as long as we remember that that we are there for each other
33:52yeah which we will
33:54which we will
33:55which we will
33:56which we will
33:57like we might piss each other off from time to time but the fact is we're brothers
34:00yeah
34:02I think it's a brilliant change in our relationship
34:05before the race
34:06I can't imagine Brian and I do it
34:09talking the way we've spoken over the last six, seven weeks
34:13our relationship will only get better now
34:15once this race is finished we'll speak to each other more
34:18doing something together whether it's if we hired a villa somewhere or other
34:23I'd bring all the kids over and then you come over for a few days or whatever you want
34:28it'd be brilliant
34:29it'd be brilliant
34:30I'm not a bigger lovey-dovey bloke

34:36I wouldn't tell him that to his face
34:38I don't mind that I've got to be honest
34:40Jesus Christ
34:42hmm
34:44I don't think I'd ever say to Brian I love him
34:47even though I'm sure he knows I do
34:51I am absolutely delighted to have done this adventure
34:57with you
35:00I couldn't think of anybody else I'd rather do it with

36:30I'm really hoping it just goes our way and we turn up tomorrow and they say yes you've got seats that would be amazing
36:36so we just had to take the gamble and we'll have to wait and see
36:40taking the risk on the 5.50 a.m. train tomorrow towards Panaji

36:56it looks like it's got trees going inside of us
36:59in one of the city's most eclectic neighbourhoods
37:02Bandra
37:04where modern high-rises sit side by side with crumbling Indo-Portuguese bungalows
37:10everything is so individual and different and colourful
37:13and graffitied streets are lined with Catholic shrines and grottos
37:20what are these?

38:34this race has given me newfound confidence that there are things I can do
38:39I would like to make some changes when I get home
38:48I've always felt a great sense of guilt if I wanted to do something for myself
38:53or perhaps not that the family first
38:55which most parents do
38:57under completely understandably
38:59but now I feel if I want to do something
39:01I can find something that I absolutely love and follow it through
39:05right
39:08shall we get going?
39:09I think we should get to bed
39:10because we've got an early start tomorrow
39:12tomorrow is going to be a
39:15a stressful day
39:16it's just the worry of not knowing
39:18for certain that we're going to get on that train
39:21and that we're going to make it to checkpoint tomorrow
39:2312 hours from now the train leaves actually
39:26right
39:30while Caroline and Tom wait to learn whether they've secured tickets
39:34Brian and Melvin are competing with local traffic
39:47it's not just really a horrible fellow
39:48it's a bloody herd on them
39:49it's honestly milking time innit

40:42yeah
40:44that's what we wanted
40:45yeah
40:46very relaxing
40:47yeah
40:48it's mostly for people to come from the city and relax
40:50because like it's very chaotic there
40:52yeah
40:56and do you normally cook?
40:57yeah I love cooking
40:58I started cooking when I was four years old
41:00wow

41:22mm-mm
41:25I've travelled a lot
41:26I've lived abroad
41:27I've come back to my hometown
41:31and I've just been a bit stagnant really
41:33I've been a bit, you know, deciding what I'm going to do with my life
41:37et cetera, et cetera, et cetera
41:38et cetera, et cetera
41:40I started getting into going to retreats
41:43and it's definitely helped with understanding myself a little bit more
41:47being more confident in what I want to do
41:50and actually I would like to provide it for other people
41:53because I know how beneficial it's been for me
41:57I'm just excited for what the future will hold

42:31I'm very comfortable, thank you
42:32I guess seeing my sister envision her dream about starting a retreat
42:38it does make me think, oh, what should I do, you know?
42:41which I feel like I'm still trying to figure out for myself
42:48before the race, I think I definitely had a cycle of starting things, not finishing things and just being upset about that
42:58like university
42:59like university
43:00I mean, I lasted until, you know, the last year
43:02and then I was like, actually, no, I don't want to do it
43:06I couldn't stay in a job really so long
43:10I just had the fear of failure, scared of just putting myself out there
43:16such a weird sensation
43:18I don't know what to do with myself
43:21I'll embrace it, I'll embrace it
43:23being in a race
43:26there's so many things you can fail at
43:29small things like communicating with people
43:31getting rejected
43:32that's like a sense of failing
43:34and that was happening on the daily
43:37you just have to become comfortable
43:40with failure
43:42really?
43:44oh, thank you
43:45it's toughened me up
43:48I would like to have that feeling
43:50just completing something
43:53that I've worked hard on
43:55and, um, I've tried my best on
43:59oh, this is lovely
44:03it's so hot

44:33oh, wow, look at that
44:35everyone's chilling, having a good time, it's cute
44:37good vibes
44:38at Pauna Lake
44:40a popular campsite destination for locals
44:43seeking a weekend getaway from the cities of Pune and Mumbai
44:48I love being here with you
44:49yeah
44:50I mean, we're together
44:51a lot at home anyway
44:52but we've not had a breather from each other
44:55no, and somehow still kicking, yeah
44:57I know
44:59do you think after the finish line
45:00do you think you could carry on?
45:01I don't think I'd want to go on for longer
45:03really?
45:04I think I'd want to go home for a little bit
45:05see everyone
45:07but then I do think I'll have that itch again to go travelling, so
45:11I honestly think
45:13give me three days at the finish line
45:15I'll go again
45:17it just makes, it just inspires me to
45:18I want to do more things
45:20I do just want to
45:22see more of the world
45:24yeah, do a lot of fun things first
45:26then all the serious stuff
45:28we are still young
45:30before coming on the race
45:32before coming on the race
45:33all I was thinking was
45:35the house, the family
45:37marriage
45:38all of that stuff
45:41the race has made me realise
45:42there's so much more
45:44that I'm able to do
45:45that I'm able to see
45:47I'm only 19
45:48I've got the rest of my life
45:51to settle down
45:55oh my
45:56this is the kind of vibe going on here

47:19and
47:20then
47:21we're back to square one

48:37All the worry of yesterday, despite really enjoying my day,
48:40this was at the back of my mind.

49:15I'm happy we're getting there today.
49:18We are planning to buy some tickets.
49:24Where are you planning to go right now?
49:26Panji tonight.
49:28Lining up their last transfer to checkpoint, Brian and Melvin.
49:32Our office is closed today because of Sunday.
49:35Oh, no.
49:36You can wait at the hotel.
49:38I'll send my representative in 45 minutes maximum.
49:41OK, we'll wait here then for 45 minutes.
49:43Yeah, sure.
49:44That is brilliant.
49:46I'm actually quite confident that because we caught that ferry
49:49on the first day, if you had to go back up and back down again,
49:53that's a 12-hour trip.
49:54That took us four hours.
49:56So, in theory, that gives you an eight-hour lead.
50:00Do you guys speak English?
50:02Do you know how much a taxi would be from Kolapur to Panjim?
50:06Leaning on locals for a little help...
50:09..to today, after this bus.
50:13..fin and Seanhead.
50:15We're just wondering, like, how much a taxi would be
50:17and how do we get a taxi.
50:19If you want, I can check it out.
50:21Oh, that would be really good if you could.
50:23Yeah, thank you so much.
50:25I mean, if we can get it sorted for us, I mean...
50:28..it would be really good.
50:33He's asking 6,000, including toll.
50:35OK, 60 is up.
50:376,000, yeah.
50:38Is that good to be asking?
50:39Yeah. OK, so he'll be waiting for us.
50:41I will get into taxi and go to Kolapur.
50:43Perfect. That's amazing.
50:44Thank you very much. Thank you so much.
50:46Oh, wow. Oh, that's good.
50:48What a lovely guy.
50:49See, asking get to your car.
50:51I'm a very kind man.
50:53It's just actually really helped us out.
50:55It does really prove that just having that little bit
50:58of extra confidence to just speak to people
51:02can work wonders, really.
51:04Our wife prepared a special dish.
51:07Really, I need it.
51:09You try. All of you try.
51:11Oh, it's still hot.
51:13Mmm.
51:15That's really good.
51:16Ooh, spicy.
51:18Spicy.
51:19We've learned along the way.
51:20People in India are very hospitable and very giving
51:25and just wanting to help all the time.
51:27It's really good.
51:28It's really spicy, but it's really good.
51:29That's very good.
51:30Your wife makes absolutely lovely food.
51:33Very nice.
51:35You could say that we've learned it too late,
51:37but I think we've learned it just in time, really,
51:39because we're taking it into that last final lag.
51:41Have it, have it.
51:42No, it's yours. It's your food.
51:44No, no, no. I help.
51:45We need it.
51:45Want it.
51:46Are you sure?
51:47Oh, thank you so much.
51:49Oh, he's so sweet.
51:52So, yeah, we're very happy.
51:54Transport to Checkpoint is just all organised now, so, yeah.
51:59I do like the biryani.
52:01So good.
52:13Ready?
52:14Yeah.
52:15Go.
52:16After an 11-hour bus...
52:20It's humid, isn't it?
52:21Sticky.
52:23Brian and Melvin have arrived in Panaji.
52:28On the banks of the Mondovi River,
52:30Goa's regional capital is a jumble of colourful streets,
52:36towered over by the sparkling
52:39Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church.
52:42Along the coast, Bambalin Bay, and the seventh checkpoint in the race.
52:49On foot, head through the colourful street and turn right after the temple and find the Panjim's People's Gallery.
53:02Colourful street?
53:04Colourful street.
53:05This is a colourful street, innit?
53:08Keep coming, Mel.
53:09That's the temple right there.
53:10Yeah.
53:12Right, is it left or is it right?
53:14Would be, wouldn't it?
53:14The choice of three.
53:16Which one would you normally pick?
53:18Well, there's more people down here.
53:19Right, you go that way, I go that way, so let's go that way.
53:21Nah, this way.
53:24Trust me.
53:24Here you go, Panjim's People's Gallery.
53:28You were right.
53:29Oh, I know what.
53:29First time ever.
53:32Head through the village, up the incline street, to reach the Immaculate Conception Church.
53:38Incline?
53:40I'm just starting to sweat a bit.
53:42What was the name of the church?
53:44The Immaculate Conception.
53:46Excuse me, do you know where the Immaculate Conception Church is?
53:51Is that it?
53:51Could be, it's good, I'm on down here.
53:52I just asked this chap.
53:54That's it.
53:57Yeah, by tuk-tuk or taxi, travel to the Checkpoint Hotel, the Grand Hyatt,
54:02and check in at reception on the first floor.
54:04Tuk-tuk, yeah?
54:05We're going the Grand Hyatt?
54:07Yeah.
54:07How much?
54:08How much, mate?
54:08Five, yeah.
54:09Good lad, thank you.
54:11Go, go, go, go, go.
54:13Aren't we going to be first?
54:15Are we going to be second?
54:16Are we going to be third or what?
54:17I don't know.
54:18I don't see what we could have done any better on the leg.
54:21No.
54:21But who knows?
54:22Well, we both know that if we could get a bit of a lead on this leg,
54:27we've got a chance for the final leg, haven't we?
54:28Yeah, we've got a bit of a chance for the final leg, haven't we?
54:29Yeah, we've got a bit of a chance for the final leg, haven't we?
54:31There you go, Mel.
54:32Oh, here we are.
54:32Excellent.
54:33Thank you so much.
54:34Thank you, mate.
54:35Wow, this looks a bit special, doesn't it?
54:39Lovely view.
54:39It is lovely, isn't it?
54:42Ah, here you go, Mel.
54:45See you, see you.
54:48Hello, mate.
54:50Good morning.
54:50Good morning.
54:51How are you?
54:52Welcome to Grand Herd Gore.
54:53Please sign in here.
54:56Congratulations.
54:57You have successfully reached your seventh checkpoint.
54:59Please sign in overleaf.
55:00You ready?
55:01Yeah.
55:08Don't know how we've drawn that.
55:09Oh, bollocks.
55:17Well, this place is incredible.
55:18Reception.
55:22Come to the left.
55:22Go to the left.
55:23Hold on, Thomas.
55:24Come on, keep going.
55:24Nearly there.
55:26Oh, here it is.
55:26See it again.
55:27Yes.
55:28Oh, we're here.
55:29Yes.
55:30Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
55:31Hello.
55:32Hi.
55:33OK.
55:33OK.
55:34You ready?
55:34Yeah.
55:36Oh, my God.
55:37Well done.
55:38Oh, darling, darling.
55:41Oh, thank you.
55:44I can't believe we are first.
55:46It's the most incredible feeling.
55:48Three's a charm.
55:49And I think if we can win on the final leg, win three times,
55:54it would just be fantastic.
55:55It would have been nice to come first, but, you know, maybe that's for the last leg.
56:07Oh, OK.
56:10It's fine.
56:12Because we're all still very close together.
56:14It's not like we've fallen behind again.
56:15OK, yeah, yeah, no, we should be very happy with that.
56:19Think of it that way.
56:20At least we're not 31 hours behind again.
56:21I know, and we're not fourth anymore.
56:22Exactly, OK.
56:25After nearly 13,000 kilometres, only eight hours separates the top three teams going into
56:31the final leg. For Brian and Melvin, a 17-hour gap to close.
56:41We didn't expect to be fourth, I've got to be honest.
56:44The only people that we can blame is us.
56:46So we've cocked it up.
56:49Mumbai would have had an infrastructure of transport linked.
56:52And what we did is that we avoided that.
56:55So we've avoided all of those fast transport routes.
56:58It's all in last leg, isn't it?
57:00Yeah.
57:01We've moved from fourth to first before, and we'll do it again.
57:06It is what it is. We're not despondent.
57:08We'll get out there for the eighth leg, and we'll hammer it, won't we?
57:11We'll give it the best shot.
57:14It all comes down to now.
57:15It does. We've seen the world, and now we're racing.
57:20Let's go!
57:22Oh, that's all right, isn't it?
57:24One mishap could jeopardise our position.
57:27Why can't we catch up 19 hours?
57:29Everybody knows that you can catch up with time.
57:32Run, Sean, Ed, run!
57:34We just need to get that extra little push to win.
57:36I think we can do it.
57:37Vote! Vote!
57:37Vote!
57:38If Thomas and I can win this race, it will mean the world to me.
57:42I feel the pressure's on.
57:43Let's go!
57:44Let's go!
57:46Go, go, faster, faster!
57:47It's all down to this book.
57:50Why did the book hold this much power?
57:52I feel the buzz.
57:54Ask what you're playing.
57:58Take it easy.
57:59Bye.
58:01Treo out!
58:03Go
