00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

00:14I am, like many, horrified at how often we read in the newspapers and hear on the radio

00:25the number of shootings that are taking place in our country.

00:32And the vast majority of them are executed by young people.

00:45And it's not only horrifying, but it is not surprising to me.

00:55And it's not surprising because we have raised a generation of children who don't go to church.

01:06It sort of started with my generation.

01:10We were the ones that were counterculture, and we knew better, and we weren't going to

01:16follow the faith of our parents, and so we went in different directions.

01:20And then we had children, and many of those children have had children.

01:30And these are young people who are devoid of faith.

01:37They have no faith.

01:39They don't go to church.

01:41They don't believe in God.

01:42They don't fear God.

01:47Now, there's something about the fear of God that we must remember.

01:53It's not about trembling before God as though God is going to destroy us.

01:59But the fear of God ultimately means that we have great reverence and love for God.

02:06And yet we have these younger generations who don't even think about God at all.

02:16They don't believe in God.

02:19They have no hope.

02:23There's nothing there that gives them the moral and spiritual support

02:30that they need to navigate this world.

02:36And so what do they do?

02:42They turn their backs on morality,

02:46and they become consumed with what feels right for them.

02:53Now, I was reading an article recently.

03:00I was reading recently about this very fact.

03:06And it was pointed out by the author

03:08that these perpetrators of these demonic attacks against their fellow humans

03:19is in many ways a chance to try to get some attention.

03:26They don't have the attention of their families

03:31because families are all absorbed in other things,

03:36like their iPhones and their laptops

03:41and their television programs.

03:44So when kids come home from school,

03:49they don't come home to the loving embrace of their mother.

03:55She's probably not even there.

03:57She's probably working.

04:00And they don't eat together as a family.

04:02Kids take their food to their rooms

04:09and watch movies or communicate with their friends on laptops.

04:15And many times they're not even communicating with friends.

04:19They're communicating with people they don't even know,

04:22that they've never met.

04:25They only think, they only imagine that those are friends.

04:29But they're not.

04:30This is really a time when we need to wake up

04:40and we need to look at the importance of raising our children with a faith

04:49so that they have hope

04:53and they have a relationship with a God

04:58whom they know loves them.

05:05When I was a child,

05:09my Christian faith kept me

05:15from even feeling okay about fighting with another classmate.

05:23And if I did,

05:25I haven't held to pay with my parents.

05:32This is something that's missing today too

05:35because most parents aren't even aware what their kids are doing.

05:42So for those adults out there

05:46who may be watching this video

05:50and who don't go to church,

05:53it's still not too late for your children

05:58even though your children might be in high school or college by now

06:02because you can choose to have faith now

06:09and you can focus on a relationship with God now

06:17and therefore inspire your children and your grandchildren

06:24to do the same thing.

06:27only when we bring them into the church

06:32and into a genuine relationship with the God who created them

06:40will we see an end

06:43may God make it so

06:52through the prayers of our Holy Fathers

06:54Lord Jesus Christ our God

06:57have mercy on us and save us
