Volunteers were recognised in a lovely garden party in Wellington, organised by Lord Lieutenant Anna Turner.
Transcript
00:00Denzel, introduce yourself for me and tell us what you do.
00:02My name's Denzel, Denzel Martin. I'm the landlord at the Unicorn Inn in Little Dorley.
00:10What brings you to the garden party this year?
00:13We've been invited.
00:14Why do you think you've been invited?
00:17Two of our local parish councillors invited us, nominated us, for the work that we've done in Little Dorley for charities.
00:23We've been at the Unicorn since August 23, and we've been fundraising ever since we got there, basically.
00:33We host a monthly quiz every month. Whoever wins the quiz gets to choose a charity.
00:38Some of them are big national charities of breast cancer.
00:42Others are tiny little charities.
00:45A young lady in the community couldn't get treatment on the NHS, so she had to go to Germany.
00:52She had to raise £80,000, so we've helped them.
00:56We've done a lot of mental health charities, men's mental health.
01:00We've recently done a lot of work for the Samaritans.
01:04It's just something that bonds, I think, the community together.
01:08And your wife just told us that you've raised £28,000 in 20 months?
01:13Yes. I'm not saying £28,000 on the nose, but yeah, it's about £28,000 raised.
01:19That's all from... It's the community that's raised it, not us.
01:24People say, we've made it happen, which, yeah, we probably did, but it's the community that's done amazingly.
01:32And feeling good about being recognised at the building right?
01:35It's just, yeah, it's a lovely thing that we've done for us today.
01:39Lovely people that do things in the church, they do things in the community, just endless.
01:48I'm so pleased to just offer a little smidgen, a token of thanks to them, and just a little bit of gratitude for what they do.
01:57We're here with Ruby. Hello, Ruby.
01:59Hi.
01:59And what's your last name?
02:01Sheffield.
02:02Ruby Sheffield.
02:03And just fill us in, why is it you've been invited to Ruby? You make cards, don't you?
02:07Yeah, I make crafts and cards, and I go off to local shopping centres, and they'll sell them.
02:13And so far, I've raised £11,131 for the Royal British Legion.
02:17Awesome work. Well done. That's a lot of cards. Well done, young lady. Enjoy your day.
