Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Nicolas Torre 3rd on June 4, 2025 hits back at Vice President Sara Duterte and Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte after they questioned his appointment. At a Palace press conference, Torre said he respected the opinion of the Duterte siblings but took exception to the Davao City official's comment that Torre bypassed several officials following his appointment by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Without mentioning names, Torre countered that the first PNP chief of his father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, was promoted from 'one-star directly to four-stars.' Torre asked Duterte son whether he questioned his father's appointment back then. Following his election in 2016, Duterte named Ronald dela Rosa PNP chief and promoted him accordingly.
