00:00...looks for alternative rock band Nova Twins.
00:03The one thing that wasn't quite sitting right is the brows.
00:06But Sharice and Jake missed the mark.
00:08We're just looking for more subtlety here.
00:11At Glow Up Studios, it was a different story.
00:14I've got to give you a ding dong and I don't know why I'm crying!
00:18As both beat the seat.
00:20You did an excellent job.
00:22But what I'd love to see is something that's not a monster.
00:26Before Jamie sent Josh home in the face-off.
00:30Next week, I'm definitely going to bring something big, bold and the judges are going to love it.
00:35With just five MUAs fighting for their place in the competition,
00:39the stage is set for one of their toughest industry assignments yet.
00:44I can't believe that's 86.
00:46I just can't believe how empty it feels now.
00:49There is literally only five people left.
00:52That's actually half now. That's really scary.
00:55And we've got two more weeks until the final, which is even crazier.
01:00I feel like this is a top five where everyone is actually different.
01:05I'm definitely riding high from the little win and coming back from the face-up.
01:09But I do feel like I really need to bring it up.
01:13The MUAs assignment this week has brought them to London's West End.
01:16Hi, guys!
01:19So do you know where we are today?
01:21Yes!
01:21Cabaret!
01:23Yes!
01:24Let's go inside and find out what you're going to be doing!
01:26Go!
01:30For almost 60 years, risque musical Cabaret has been a favourite for theatre-goers,
01:36attracting big-name talent and bagging multiple awards.
01:39The latest version at London's Playhouse Theatre is no exception.
01:45Having won seven Olivier's, its current leads are global superstars Billy Porter and Marisha Wallace.
01:52I absolutely love Billy Porter.
01:55I feel like I could just jump up and down in excitement.
01:58My God!
01:59Oh, this is so beautiful!
02:01I've been praying for an interesting assignment that's theatre-related for ages.
02:04I actually haven't done theatre since.
02:06I was back in college maybe like six, seven years ago.
02:08Mate, this is sick!
02:11Yeah, super excited to be at Cabaret.
02:13What a sick opportunity.
02:16MUAs, welcome to the Kit Kat Club.
02:20Let me introduce you to your guest judge for today,
02:22the super-talented makeup designer behind the West End and Broadway revivals of Cabaret,
02:27the amazing Guy Common.
02:31Hi, MUAs, or should I say Vilcommon?
02:34Make-Up Powerhouse Guy is known for his theatrical looks.
02:41He's showcased his artistry in films such as Cruella,
02:44collaborated with Paloma Faith and Grace Jones,
02:47and designed the makeup for award-winning productions in the West End and on Broadway.
02:53So, Cabaret is set in pre-World War II Germany,
02:56during a time of rising fascism.
02:58The carefree world of the Kit Kat Club is an escape from the grim realities of what was going on outside.
03:04As our host, the MC, says,
03:06in here, life is beautiful.
03:08And I want you to make up five of our Kit Kat girls.
03:12Oh, my God.
03:13Hey, darling!
03:15Yay!
03:17Cabaret takes place at an underground venue in 1930s Berlin,
03:22the Kit Kat Club.
03:24Central to the story are the club's dancers.
03:26These larger-than-life performers each have unique characters with makeup looks to match.
03:32Welcome to the Kit Kat Club!
03:38I've designed them to look like they're at the end of a long night out.
03:41It's all very disheveled glamour.
03:43I want you to choose who you're going to do today, right now.
03:47Oh, God.
03:49So, ready?
03:50First up, we have Frenchie.
03:52Oh, very cute.
03:53Who is confident with line work?
03:54I will give that to myself, yeah.
03:56That looks like a good fit.
03:57Next up, we have Lulu.
03:59Who wants to have a go at Lulu's pinched Cupid's bow lip?
04:02You, you're great at lips.
04:04I'll take her.
04:05Thank you very much.
04:08Jamie chooses 90s club look Helga.
04:12Yes.
04:13And Mia takes on neon beauty Rosie.
04:17So, then, that leaves you with Texas.
04:21Oh!
04:22I like this.
04:22Let me see it.
04:23So, is everyone happy?
04:24Yes!
04:25Yes!
04:25So, remember, guys, your makeup has to look good on the front row, but it's also got to look
04:32amazing right up there in the gods.
04:36So, you've got to bring it.
04:39Ooh.
04:40This is so exciting.
04:42By 7.30pm tonight, this theatre will be full of paying customers.
04:46So, if I'm not happy with any of the looks today, I will have to step in and let you know.
04:50That being said, the makeup artist who does the best today will be invited back to attend
04:55our gala performance as a VIP guest.
04:57Oh, my God.
04:58Starring our lead actors, Billy Porter and Marisha Wallace.
05:02Oh, my God.
05:02Stop it.
05:03Oh, my God.
05:04I just want to start.
05:11I feel like this is definitely in my skill set, and, yeah, I would love to win this.
05:18Okay, MUAs, you've each got a place, so if you look for your Kit Kat's name, as soon as
05:23they get in your chair, then this is your time to start.
05:24I need them in two hours for costume, so it's go, go, go.
05:28Each MUA is working with a performer from the show who know the looks better than anyone.
05:34Hi.
05:35Do you take a seat?
05:35Yeah, sure.
05:36To make sure I win to them, I'm literally copying and pasting that makeup on Rosie's face.
05:43I'm so excited to do this.
05:44Oh, it's so cute.
05:46It's looking so cute.
05:47As soon as I saw that it was cabaret, I was like, yes.
05:50As industry assignments go, this is a big one.
05:54We're talking cabaret.
05:57The West End.
05:59It's in a genre all of its own.
06:02It's got to be big, bold, and tell a story.
06:06I mean, this is major.
06:09Such an amazing choice to be part of.
06:11Like, the stage as well is insane.
06:14It's such a special job.
06:16The golden rule when it comes to theatre makeup is remembering that you've got a front row,
06:20but you've got a back row.
06:21So you need to make it bold enough to be able to be seen at the back, but it has to be polished
06:26for those people at the front.
06:27This is Gorge.
06:29Blah, blah, blah.
06:29I've done theatre makeup before, but only for just, like, a little show.
06:35It wasn't, like, anything too big.
06:39A performer as a child, Mia is no stranger to stage makeup.
06:44It really reminds me of, like, the dance makeup I used to do when I was younger.
06:47So I'm kind of excited.
06:50The makeup reflects the individual characters themselves, and this is something that I work
06:54on with the costume designer and the hairstylist.
06:58For example, Rosie is very flirty, so we did her palette in pinks and oranges to kind of
07:03give that flushed look to her skin.
07:06So I have Rosie.
07:07She's cutesy, flamboyant, flirty, but feisty.
07:11A neon shock of acid, a bit of punk girl in pink.
07:14So Frenchie, she is a strong-willed, feisty, in control and alluring.
07:19Watch out for her magnetic allure with this old Hollywood look with pencil-thin eyebrows
07:23and a moustache to match.
07:24Love that.
07:25Are you nervous about the moustache?
07:27No.
07:27You know I'm a line-work girly, though.
07:29That's what I love.
07:30That's what I live, love, love.
07:32You have really good brows, by the way.
07:34Thanks.
07:37All of the looks require a blocked brow, which means making the brows invisible,
07:42blending seamlessly with the skin.
07:44I love gluing an eyebrow down.
07:46It's my favourite thing.
07:48Getting that flat, laminated, natural brow first before you start anything else is essential.
07:54I do not want to see any cornflake, crunchy eyebrows.
07:57Oh, my brow covers are getting so good.
07:59If you saw the journey from when I first got here, it was looking like porridge.
08:03So, Jamie, Kit Kat club, cabaret.
08:09I am so happy to be here.
08:11Like, I love theatre make-up.
08:13It's like big, bold, dramatic.
08:15How are we feeling about, you know, coming out of the face-off on top and now we're here?
08:20I have literally not got a nervous bone in my body.
08:22I don't think you have any, to be honest with you.
08:24No.
08:24What's your character's name?
08:26I've got Helga, the clown, full throttle, a little unhinged.
08:31It's literally me.
08:32I feel like definitely the eyes are going to be, like, the main sort of focus.
08:36Like, make sure they're really pigmented.
08:38Make sure that they can be seen from a mile away.
08:41Well, I'm very excited to see Helga come to life.
08:45I'll see you later, my confidence queen.
08:47See you later.
08:48Bye.
08:50So, I have a Texas in my chair.
08:52Hooting, hollering, Yankee Doodle, full of beans.
08:55And I feel like they've got a very, like, sort of glam, but also grungy sort of look, which is really cool.
09:00And I just want to ensure that I get all the main features down, like the beauty mark and the gap too.
09:08Are you excited to be here?
09:09Yeah, I am, honestly, because I'm very proud of myself, because I thought I was, like, giving first out, so.
09:15No.
09:16I feel like the reason why you feel that way is literally your own self-doubt, because actually you've been impressing, like, every single week.
09:23Yeah, so I need to get out of this negative mindset.
09:26Flip it on its head, mate.
09:27For sure, yeah.
09:30So, just doing foundation at the moment, and then just blending it out with a beauty blender.
09:36My character's Lulu.
09:40Sultry, mysterious, seductive.
09:42It's more like reds, burgundies, golds on the eyes.
09:45And then a pinched, pursed look to the lips.
09:48Right, I feel like I need to move on now.
09:53I really like these colours.
09:57Very dramatic.
09:58Yeah.
10:01The part of the brief I'm excited about is the eyeshadow.
10:04I love bright, colourful things.
10:07Very bold.
10:08I used a lot of different textures, so metallic, shimmer, gloss, glitter, because it's important that it can be seen from all angles.
10:18And also, those textures read amazingly with the lighting.
10:22Wow.
10:23Old.
10:23So, I'm a little bit of a perfectionist and do more beauty makeup, so I just need to remember that just as much as it looks good up close, it also needs to look good from the back row.
10:41I feel like I might have gone too much with a blusher.
10:43It's never too much.
10:44The makeup definitely needs to read from the back and the front, so you need to make the shapes and the colours bolder and bigger.
10:53It needs to be high impact.
10:55Yeah, that's really bright.
10:58In theatre makeup, you never want to blend too much, because we do want some sort of harsh line so that people all their back over there can see it.
11:09I feel like we've definitely got this in a bag.
11:11She was already in my basket before I left the house.
11:14I'm definitely in my element.
11:21With performers due on stage for tonight's show, Guy will step in if the looks aren't right.
11:28One thing I'm just noticing is that Jamie hasn't even opened his eyeshadow palette, and I think he's been distracted by the pot of pigment, which is really meant to be used very sparingly, because it's UV reflective.
11:40Oh!
11:41Which, under the lighting design, I think that amount will just look crazy.
11:45Whoops.
11:46Yeah.
11:47One little thing that I'm a little concerned about is the amount of the neon pigment.
11:58I think if you can try and take a bit of this off...
12:00Just brush it.
12:01Give it a good brush, but try not to disturb your brow blocking.
12:05Brow blocking.
12:06And then go in with the matte shadow.
12:07Yep.
12:08I think that will give you a bit of a better start.
12:09Is that okay?
12:10Yeah, yeah, of course.
12:11Yeah?
12:12You're going to roll up.
12:13You literally look at it and it's screaming UV.
12:20Yeah, I feel like that's definitely dialed it down.
12:23I'm like, this is the only time I was acceptable to actually have mascara underneath your eyes.
12:30The Kit Kat Girls, it's kind of like the end of the night.
12:33So, we're looking for great makeup that's grubby.
12:38It's perfectly imperfect.
12:43Obviously, like, this look isn't supposed to be, like, as if they've just put on the makeup.
12:49We would never on this show have tape under the eye,
12:52because that just implies that you're worried about fallout and everything.
12:54And in truth, we encourage that.
12:56So, I'll be looking out for how she adjusts that later on.
12:59I do love blush.
13:02This is, like, needed in a playground right now.
13:04And how do you think Jake's doing so far with the application?
13:07I actually think that he is really nailing the fact that it doesn't have the sort of super smooth blending everywhere.
13:14And I like that.
13:15Okay.
13:18Okay, everyone.
13:19So, that is your one-hour call.
13:21You've had one hour.
13:22What?
13:23So, I'm going to need my Kit Kats in costume and wigs in one hour.
13:26Okay, I'm not speaking.
13:27I'm sorry.
13:28I can't speak.
13:29Brows.
13:30Okay, now I'm going to go in with the brows.
13:32Having created a blank canvas, the MUAs now need to draw on a perfect 1930s brow.
13:38The thing is, like, when I do these brows, there's no going back.
13:42Going in for the kill.
13:44Right, let's go.
13:46We usually say, like, the brows are sisters, not twins.
14:00No, but they need to be twins because it's my reputation.
14:03It's just perfectly curved.
14:04Yeah, that's definitely.
14:05Yeah.
14:06I think I'm doing stupidly well for time, which always makes me panic because I'm always, like, finished early and sometimes it really doesn't work out for me.
14:18The neon look is definitely coming together.
14:19Would doing theatre makeup be something that you want to go deeper into, maybe?
14:21100%, I mean, like, this especially.
14:22Bright, colourful, bold, like, eyeshadow looks that I love doing.
14:23I would never say no to doing something like this again, honestly.
14:24Don't say that louder.
14:25Guys, just over your shoulder.
14:26Hi, Amy.
14:27Okay.
14:28First, let's go ahead and over to my other eye.
14:29Yes.
14:30Only to make sure that I felt okay without wearing a fingerprint as well.
14:33Like, I'd like to take a look.
14:34And then, I think, like, the pink brush, I would like to draw it all the way, because
14:35I'm always, like, finished early and sometimes it really doesn't work out for me.
14:38The neon look is definitely coming together.
14:39Would doing theatre makeup be something that you want to go deeper into, maybe?
14:40100 percent.
14:41I mean, like, this especially.
14:42Bright, colourful, bold, like, eyeshadow looks that I love doing.
14:45So I would never say no to doing something like this again, honestly.
14:48Don't say that louder.
14:49Guys, just over your shoulder.
14:50Hire me!
14:54OK, MUAs, that's your 30-minute call.
14:59Oh, my Lord! 30 minutes.
15:02Thank you very much.
15:04Now the MUAs need to focus on the elements
15:06which make their looks unique.
15:09Pinted on gut two.
15:13Right. Pinch past the lip to the lip.
15:19So cute, isn't it?
15:21I'm obsessed with a little moustache.
15:22That moustache, to me, I'm not reading it.
15:25It's definitely way too small.
15:27The shape's good, but it needs to be about five times bigger.
15:30So, what's going on with Jade now?
15:32The lip, it needs a lot more definition.
15:34And I'd go in with a darker pencil or even a dark shadow to do that.
15:38Oh, perfect.
15:41I'm literally just doing the lips now.
15:42Then it's going to be just, like, constantly staring at her
15:44to make sure, like, everything's perfect.
15:47How's Mia getting on?
15:49I think she really needs to make it look a lot more lived in.
15:52And get a bit more grunge going, because Rosie is a bit of a punk.
15:55Right. Yeah.
15:57I thought I'd quickly glue on the lashes.
16:01And then, obviously, do, like, the smaller details, like the dots.
16:07Most of the girls in the Kit Kat club have got beauty spots.
16:10What is the, you know, story or the history behind the beauty marks?
16:13Well, they originally came from when people had diseases
16:16and they left scarring.
16:17So, they would cover them up with a little black spot
16:19and then it became a fashion trend.
16:21Oh, wow.
16:22Oh, wow.
16:23Mmm.
16:32Erm, I am finished.
16:36Are you done, Mia?
16:37Yeah.
16:38I'll be shocked.
16:39No.
16:40I don't really think there's anything else I can do, to be honest.
16:43OK, MUAs, I've got two people who'd love to have a look at your make-up.
16:49Is it Billy Porter?
16:50No, it can't be.
16:52MUAs!
16:53MUAs!
16:54MUAs!
16:55All right!
16:56Oh, my God!
16:57Oh, my God!
16:58Oh, my God!
16:59Can I dress up?
17:00Hi!
17:01Hi!
17:02Hi!
17:03Here to assist Guy in judging the looks are the leading actors themselves.
17:08Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award-winning Billy Porter
17:12and double-Olivier-nominated Marisha Wallace.
17:15How are you?
17:17Porter!
17:18I'm good.
17:19Oh, my God!
17:22Send me home.
17:24I don't care.
17:25I don't need to win.
17:26Look at this!
17:28Yes!
17:29Amazing!
17:30There's a tradition in musical theatre where the ensemble are all alike.
17:36This ensemble is not.
17:39Every single Kit Kat girl is specific in their own character.
17:45In this production, makeup is so important.
17:48It shows you how makeup does give people individualization,
17:52and it kind of shows you their personality.
17:56All right, MUAs!
17:58You got 15 minutes!
17:59Oh!
18:00So snatch it up!
18:01Showtime, honey!
18:02Showtime!
18:03Let's go!
18:04With the Kit Kat girls' performance looming,
18:08Guy has one last chance to suggest any changes that MUAs need to make.
18:13Jamie, quick little bit of feedback.
18:15If you turn to the side, do you see this gap?
18:17Yeah.
18:18Just make sure that this connects to the eye so that you see there's no space in between.
18:23Yeah.
18:24And then I would say lip needs to be darker, a lot darker.
18:28Yeah?
18:29Thank you!
18:30Thank you!
18:32I just want you to think about having the moustache bigger.
18:35Okay, good.
18:36Thicker or longer?
18:37A bit of both.
18:38Okay.
18:39I think that we need a lot more blush.
18:43Just get that colour a lot stronger.
18:45Have fun.
18:46And the same with the lip.
18:50I think we can have a little bit more of a sort of roughness to it.
18:53Cool. Yeah.
18:54Lovely.
18:55Thank you!
18:56Thank you!
19:06I've got my checklist done.
19:07I'm just trying to intensify this blue.
19:14Look at me from...
19:16Yeah, that's good advice from him.
19:20These are very minor changes.
19:23Easily done.
19:29Okay, MUAs, that is brushes down.
19:31We need to get our Kit Kats into wigs and costumes.
19:34Thank you very much.
19:41Nice to meet you.
19:42I'm pretty sure I've finished with like 30 minutes left.
19:45But I do feel like it looks like the photo.
19:50That was so much fun.
19:51My comfort zone is very much perfection.
19:53So just being able to actually just go a bit crazy and just make it look a bit worse for wear was really fun.
19:58I feel very confident that I can win.
20:04Guy, Billy and Marisha will now assess the looks to see if they're ready for the stage.
20:11The MUA with the look closest to Guy's original will be invited back to the Kit Kat club to see a gala performance as a VIP guest.
20:19Over to Billy.
20:21Oh, Lulu.
20:23Does she make you a little Lulu?
20:26Do I make you a little Lulu?
20:27Do you think that because a lot of you guys do a lot more beauty that you found it hard to get that theatre intensity?
20:42I did struggle like I am a perfectionist.
20:45It doesn't matter like my opinion.
20:48I needed to replicate what was on my reference picture.
20:54So Jade's Kit Kat.
20:56She's definitely nailed the shapes.
20:59I would like a little bit more contrast just so that we get that depth from far away.
21:03For me, if I was sat up in the gods, that's going to look very natural.
21:07Yeah.
21:08I think Jade has achieved a really beauty version of Lulu's look.
21:13She's going on a first date and I want to see her at four o'clock the morning after.
21:18Thank you, Lulu.
21:21Okay, so next up, Billy.
21:23Rossi.
21:26Oh, Rossi.
21:28She smells so sweet.
21:32Was there any obstacles that you guys faced doing your look at all?
21:35Yeah, because obviously, like, they need to see it from the back, but it can't look crazy for the people in the front.
21:44Rosie is Mia's Kit Kat.
21:47I actually think it's executed beautifully, but it is a little bit too well blended.
21:53Probably would have liked it a little bit rougher.
21:55Once again for me, it's the Kit Kat Club on TV.
21:57Yeah, yeah.
21:58This is Kit Kat Club on a nice day.
22:03Yeah.
22:04Like if you want to recreate it on TikTok.
22:07She finished really early, and so I would have taken that time to just stand back so you can see it as it would be on stage.
22:14Texas!
22:17Texas!
22:19Yeah!
22:21Texas is from America!
22:29Jake, how do you think it went for you?
22:31It's done.
22:33And you've got no nose, that's a good sign, because the rest of us did, so I'm worried now.
22:40So Texas is Jake's Kit Kat.
22:43I think that the skin was executed so well.
22:47No brow hair, no pores, no nothing.
22:49He knew exactly how to apply the tooth gap, which is good, because if you don't know what you're doing, it just comes straight off.
22:54What I love so much about this one is that there is a roughness, a grittiness to it.
23:02I think it's an all-round fabulous makeup.
23:07So our next Kit Kat is Helga.
23:10Helga!
23:12Is my baby!
23:14And I loved sort of doing that outrageous, crazy, like, makeup.
23:19And it was very bold, and obviously I'm like very bold, I'm very out there.
23:22You don't say.
23:27Helga is Jamie's Kit Kat.
23:30Slight issue with the amount of the neon pigment that he was using, so I had to just step in and make an adjustment.
23:38And again, I did give a note to make sure that the blush would meet the eye, and he followed that note and has given a lovely job.
23:46For me thus far, this is the closest to what it looks like in the show.
23:50This feels like Helga.
23:52Yeah.
23:53But would Jamie have got there in the time, had you not jumped in?
23:58Because it sounds to me like the original makeup was never going to be seen on stage.
24:05Frenchy!
24:07Frenchy is like a croissant.
24:09Long.
24:11Hard and crusty on the outside, but warm on the inside.
24:16Ooh!
24:17Cherise, how did you find doing that?
24:22It was very liberating, honestly.
24:23Yeah, yeah.
24:24Doing like a character-based look that was, I don't know, just a bit more messy, and like forcing myself on my comfort zone was just so, so fun.
24:31Frenchy is Cherise's Kit Kat.
24:34Again, this makeup is beautifully blended.
24:38I love the blush, but I would have just gone ten times stronger on the eye, and the brows and the moustache could be thicker.
24:46Yeah, yeah.
24:47It's beautiful.
24:48Yeah, but we want fierce.
24:49But we want fierce.
24:50More makeup.
24:51Yeah.
24:52It just needs that extra bit of welly to get it seen right up there.
24:55Welly?
24:56What's welly?
24:57A bit of welly.
24:58Welly.
24:59A bit of welly?
25:00Go get a bit of welly.
25:04Who here thinks that they have got this in the bag?
25:08Low key.
25:10Why did no one ask for that handle?
25:12I don't know.
25:13I never know.
25:14I think it's time for us to see what the judge's verdict is.
25:17Let's exit stage right.
25:19There you go.
25:21So, the makeup artist who is the winner today really impressed me.
25:33They delivered my design to a tee.
25:35It was imperfectly perfect.
25:38And I loved it.
25:39And the winner is...
25:42Jake.
25:47Oh.
25:48I completely did not expect that.
25:50That's crazy.
25:51That's a huge honour.
25:53And that's very surprising.
25:54Because of this win now, I do sort of feel seen.
25:58And at this point in the competition, I do feel like that's important.
26:01You just knew exactly what you were doing the whole way through.
26:03It looked just incredible.
26:04The whole way through.
26:06It was really, really beautifully done.
26:10And I think the imperfectly perfect part was also really achieved beautifully.
26:17We love that you really made it look rough and tumble and like we've been in a Kit Kat club dancing all night long.
26:23You know what I'm saying?
26:24You did a great job.
26:25Yeah.
26:26I feel like I'm on my way to like be more positive about things now.
26:35Who lost you in the oven?
26:37Oh, it's here.
26:38Never mind.
26:39Today was super fun though.
26:41Like it was definitely worth the early wake up.
26:44Oh, yeah.
26:45Yeah.
26:46Like Billy Porter.
26:47Man.
26:48The Billy Porter.
26:50The Billy Porter.
26:51Mr Winner Winner, can you please get out of your head now?
26:54I know, I need to.
26:56I said it's literally 50-50 chance of being in the red chairs and that.
26:59I actually have no clue who's going to be where.
27:03Same.
27:04Apart from obviously Jake's safe.
27:06Mm-hmm.
27:07Bring it on.
27:08Yeah.
27:16The next day at Glow Up Studios, the show must go on.
27:21But not before the MUAs find out who were the bottom two in yesterday's cabaret assignment.
27:26And we'll start today in the red chairs.
27:36We'll start today.
27:37We'll start today.
27:38We'll start today.
27:39We'll start today.
27:40Stop.
27:41Slay.
27:42Sharice.
27:43Jamie.
27:44Sadly, you guys are in the red face of chairs, meaning you'll have 15 minutes less to complete today's creative brief.
28:01Jamie, on stage your look was so strong, but you did use too much of the wrong product on the eye.
28:06And I did have to step in for the blush placement.
28:09So unfortunately, I wouldn't have put that look on stage.
28:11Sharice, it was a softer version of my look.
28:15And I did ask to make those brows and moustache a bit thicker, but it wasn't enough.
28:22Yesterday, your looks took us to an edgy, outrageous 1930s cabaret club.
28:31And outrageous is exactly what you have to bring today to smash your look.
28:38Today's creative brief is decadence.
28:42We don't mind how or what you interpret as decadent, as long as it's extra.
28:47So, are we ready?
28:49Yes!
28:50Well then, bring in the models!
28:52You have two and a half hours to complete your creative brief.
29:05Sharice, Jamie, I'll let you know when you can start.
29:07But the rest of you, your time starts now.
29:11It's just a 15 minute wait now.
29:18You okay?
29:19Yeah.
29:20Yeah, I will be fine.
29:22The MUAs today have to go above and beyond because, let's face it, they're all fighting for a place in the final four.
29:34All of them are so good, so, you know, it's going to be a hair's breadth.
29:39And you have a bit of block out your eyebrows.
29:42Gorgeous canvas.
29:44Hey, girl.
29:45I have an itching to come and talk to you.
29:47How are you feeling right now?
29:48I'm not going to cry again.
29:50No, I know.
29:51Don't be upset because there's literally nothing wrong with what you did.
29:55It's just the tiny, it's splitting hairs.
29:58So, I just wanted to, I was trying to communicate with my eyes.
30:00I tried to use the South London telepathy there.
30:02I was like, please, don't cry.
30:04I think it almost feels like the moment I feel confident that that's when I do the worst and it's frustrating.
30:10But what you do know is that you can get out of this.
30:13I hope so.
30:14I hope so.
30:15Hello, Jamie.
30:16Hi.
30:17How are you?
30:18I'm good.
30:19How are we feeling right now being in the red chair?
30:21Weirdly, I feel fine.
30:22That's not weird.
30:23That's just always you.
30:24You can definitely, like, beat the seat.
30:25You sure you're not about to be the face of assassin, babe?
30:26I feel like I already am.
30:27I've already done two, so.
30:28It's like the day.
30:29Today's brief is decadence.
30:30So what sort of looks do you think we're going to get today?
30:31We're going to be looking for indulgent, rich, luxurious makeup.
30:59I feel like this is a chance to show the judges
31:06that there is, like, another side of me
31:08going to be trying to start it.
31:12As someone who loves a bit of maximalist,
31:14I don't want to even see a millimetre of skin.
31:16I don't really see myself as a very decadent person,
31:19so I'm not feeling good about this brief.
31:22I want stick-ons, I want big pieces.
31:25Think of, like, a high-end charity shop.
31:28That is what I think of when I see you.
31:30Is it?
31:33It's funny because it's true.
31:36I just need to make sure that my look is enough.
31:40I think I would go down metals, precious gems.
31:45Yes, costume jewellery.
31:46Costume jewellery, there you go.
31:49I'm Indian, so I grew up going to a lot of Indian weddings.
31:54So as soon as we got the brief for decadence,
31:57I immediately thought of Indian jewellery.
32:00But as I researched a little bit more into decadence,
32:03obviously it's not necessarily a positive thing.
32:06I mean, if you go by the actual definition,
32:08it's kind of the downfall of society.
32:11So I have researched into what jewels were stolen
32:17in the colonial loot from India.
32:20So I've gone with the Tamir ruby.
32:23So I'm just blocking my model's brows out.
32:28Rubies don't have brows.
32:31When they say go, I'm like, I'm taking the shelf with me.
32:34Sharice, Jamie, your time starts now.
32:40Ooh!
32:41You've gone full of my way!
32:45Cotton pads?
32:52I'm taking decadence in a completely different mindset.
32:56Mia is also exploring the negative effects of decadence.
33:01Rather than, like, big, bold glamour,
33:03I'm kind of doing it and in, like,
33:05the overindulging in something and it going wrong.
33:08My look is based on the overconsumption of technology.
33:12Also mixing the characters from the Capital and the Hunger Games.
33:16They're overindulging in the technology.
33:17They're getting these procedures to make themselves half-robot.
33:21And then this one's gone really wrong.
33:23All of these prosthetics are completely different shaped.
33:26There's no need for symmetry because they're all completely different.
33:33This is going to actually kill me cutting a bold cap.
33:37What is this?
33:39It looks like a strip of a bold cap.
33:43Oh, so what I've done here at the moment is
33:45I've slicked back the hair and placed a bold cap over the top
33:49and then I'm just sort of blending it out.
33:52Talk to me about your idea of decadence.
33:55I'm doing, like, the overindulgence of wealth in the music industry.
34:00They sort of have all this money and then they're like,
34:01oh, I'm going to buy a new jet, a new car, another mansion.
34:04So what exactly are you going to be doing with the makeup then?
34:07So I'm basically going to make it look like luxury has branded the skin.
34:12So she's going to have, like, burns coming up into the hairline
34:16and then covering the eye.
34:18Oh, I'm excited to see this.
34:20Decadence can be, you know, it can be positive,
34:32but sometimes it can be negative.
34:34Decadence or decadence?
34:35Oh, I'll spray my ankle.
34:36I wanted to lean sort of more into the consequences
34:46of decadence and overindulgence.
34:49My overall intention with this look
34:51is that just because things sort of may look pretty or expensive,
34:55it can also be toxic and harmful to you.
34:57I've made some, like, mushroom, like, 3D bits I'm going to put on
35:03to kind of represent the decay.
35:06Five, six, five, six, seven, eight.
35:15OMG.
35:17Look at the amount of paintwork.
35:19Can we just go to Jake?
35:21Wow.
35:23He is not afraid of colour.
35:25Hi, Jake.
35:28You feeling good today?
35:29I mean, congratulations on yesterday.
35:31Winning yesterday was quite important.
35:33I feel like it's given me some confidence.
35:35Once you prepare for, like, disappointment,
35:36it's of such a nice relief to be like, oh.
35:38Yeah.
35:39So it's like, trick yourself.
35:40Yeah.
35:41I did bad.
35:41Actually, I win.
35:42Yeah.
35:44So what is the inspiration behind this look?
35:46This is, like, a sort of, like, character
35:48that I'm imagining called, like, Sweet Tooth,
35:49who's, like, all my, like, childhood, like, sweets,
35:52like, all together, like, rock from the seaside.
35:55Ice cream, chewed up chewing gum, nerds.
35:58My nan used to just make the most decadent display
36:02of, like, sweets and treats.
36:04Is it going to be a monster style or...?
36:06It's not going to be monster this time
36:08because, obviously, I got the critique of, like,
36:10you know, we've seen you do a monster,
36:12can you show us pretty?
36:13Like, I just want to show that I can step out of the darkness
36:16and do something a bit more, like...
36:18Well, Grandma, this looks for you.
36:20It is, yeah.
36:21I feel like almost every look is, like, inspired by her.
36:25Oh, I love that.
36:26Yeah.
36:33Is your eye falling?
36:34It could be an eye, don't you?
36:38What do you think?
36:39I think she's got her eye on the prize.
36:46You know that clown emoji?
36:48Yeah.
36:49This is basically to make it look like the face is bad.
36:57I am very determined to get out of this red chair.
37:02It's very non-creepy.
37:04It's very outside my comfort zone in that respect,
37:07for sure, 100%.
37:08That was really funny, Jake, over there.
37:14He, like, usually does, like, cool monster things,
37:17but, like, he's never done pretty.
37:19And I usually do, like, pretty things.
37:21So we basically, like, did, like, a switcheroo.
37:25MUAs, you have just one hour left.
37:28I only need to get my knees on.
37:34So decadent.
37:36So decadent.
37:37I feel like the most decadent people in the room
37:39are definitely Val and Dom.
37:40Yeah, they give off very decadent vibes.
37:43How is it orange?
37:45Is it orangey?
37:46It's all right, but I prefer a satsuma.
37:48A satsuma, I know.
37:56What are you up to?
37:58I have made these little mushrooms.
38:01I made these completely by hand using foam clay,
38:04just sort of layering and moulding.
38:06I've never sort of made my own, like, 3D elements before.
38:11From a theatre perspective, this would read amazing.
38:14That's good to know.
38:15Yeah, this would literally pop.
38:16Wish I knew that yesterday, don't you?
38:19Listen, I literally can't wait to see those mushrooms stuck on as well.
38:22They'll be on shortly.
38:23I'm trying to work out how I want this to look sort of glossy.
38:36Like a hard-boiled sweet.
38:38You'll probably want to keep your mouth and eyes closed for this.
38:41Like, you don't want to breathe this in.
38:43Like, you won't die, but it's not pleasant.
38:45Hi, Jake.
38:51Hi.
38:52Congratulations for yesterday.
38:53Thank you very much.
38:54Now, tell me about this.
38:55So, I'm trying to do something a little bit more beautiful this week.
38:58Yeah, well, it definitely is.
39:00I love your use of the white highlights to get that shiny texture going.
39:03It's really cool.
39:04So, tell me a little bit about what you kind of aspire to do in makeup.
39:08I just want to get back into the industry because I've had to take, like, two years off.
39:11Okay.
39:12To look after family members.
39:13Yeah.
39:13Like, care responsibility-wise.
39:14What sort of realm of makeup, though?
39:15Like, special effects is my dream.
39:17Like, I want to watch a horror film with a really cool monster in it and say, Jake Mears are.
39:21I love that.
39:22MUAs, you have just 30 minutes left.
39:26Ooh.
39:27So, time-wise, how are you doing?
39:33I need to do the sort of beauty element.
39:35Okay.
39:35I think I'm going to do more of, like, a dark, smoky eye.
39:38Okay.
39:38And then I'm going to have some gold dripping down as well.
39:41Ooh.
39:41Love it.
39:45I am applying my 3D mushrooms currently.
39:51I have some feather lashes here.
39:54Oh, bidets.
39:56We've got a feather lash.
40:00I despise feather lashes.
40:03Feather lash.
40:04There's a feather lash.
40:05It's just quite predictable.
40:07I am yet to see a makeup look where a feather lash has looked good.
40:13MUAs, you have 10 minutes left.
40:16It's only the lash we've got left, babe.
40:17We are good in the hood.
40:18I'm just going to make it really look like it's on fire.
40:35I don't think I am.
40:36I'm usually finished by now.
40:37God.
40:37So many sprinkles in my belly button.
40:44I'm going to make it so sorry.
40:49MUAs, your time is up.
40:52Brushes down.
40:54Please take your models next door to be photographed.
40:57Just, like, should I call the speakers off?
41:00Yeah.
41:06I think the presenting's went really well today.
41:08I mean, I am personally, like, proud of it, but I feel like it is a very complicated story.
41:13I hope I've done enough to beat the seat.
41:18There's not as many of us, so it just feels like the odds of being in the bottom are so much higher.
41:27I'm definitely fighting to keep my place here.
41:30There is no way I want to be in that face-off chair again.
41:39Cherise, please step forward.
41:43Please tell me your story.
41:47I wanted to lean more into the decay element of decadence.
41:51I kind of wanted to make decay look beautiful.
41:55I think this is a beautiful makeup.
41:59The way you've laid down color onto the face, I mean, this is a master painter.
42:05For me, did you need the lash?
42:08I felt like it looked really imbalanced without it, honestly.
42:10What I would say is, the real lash, curl it.
42:14That was very Bristonian, wasn't it?
42:16Curl it.
42:17Why didn't you curl it?
42:18Curl the lash so that when you put the fake lash on, they blend together more.
42:24But I think it's a superb makeup.
42:27Thank you, sir.
42:28Yes, I agree.
42:30I think you've adhered the mushrooms perfectly.
42:33I think it's beautifully executed.
42:35Thank you, sir.
42:37You've taken this concept of decadence, you've moved it into the realm of decay, but you've
42:42taken it so far over.
42:43I wonder whether you've taken it too far.
42:46So, without the story, we wouldn't really know what we're looking at.
42:49Fair enough.
42:51Jade, do you like to come up?
42:53As I researched the actual meaning of decadence, it's kind of the moral decline due to the excess
43:02of luxury, I came across the Timur Ruby, stolen from India during the colonial loop.
43:09What I love is the over-embellishment of this, the use of those chains and the studs.
43:16It creates a real opulence.
43:19It screams regal to me.
43:22If I'm going to be really picky, I look at this and I don't necessarily see the facets
43:27of the ruby around the edge.
43:29Yeah.
43:30I don't get the ruby.
43:32I get a red shape on the face.
43:35Yeah.
43:35I think if you're going to do a big sort of graphic shape, make sure your edges are kind
43:41of like, they're cut sharp.
43:43Yeah.
43:43You know, like a ruby, lots of sharp edges.
43:47But overall, it's decadent.
43:51It's opulent.
43:52You're a queen.
43:55Thank you so much.
43:57Mia, please step forward.
43:59So my look is based on my love of, like, dystopia movies of, like, the Hunger Games and the
44:10overindulgence of technology and how it's, like, the theory that robots are going to take
44:15over the world.
44:16So I've kind of made a look based on that and it's gone wrong.
44:20There's so much going on.
44:22Yeah.
44:23In this makeup.
44:24But we know that you're the prosthetics queen, right?
44:28They're just so well done.
44:30That veining under the eyes, so real.
44:34But your prosthetics are so far back on the face.
44:39Yeah.
44:39You can't see it.
44:41I agree with Val.
44:42There are so many elements that it becomes confusing.
44:47And I've never hidden from my hatred of a feather lash.
44:53I have to thank you because you've given me proof as to why feather lashes are the devil's
44:59work.
45:00It is chaotic.
45:01It is misplaced.
45:03They are too heavy, so they droop down.
45:05They give the model a bit of a sad eye.
45:07So knowing how to work around what you're trying to do, I think that's the next step for you.
45:13When I would have been planning your look and I would have thought, I'm good at prosthetics,
45:18I would have leant into that.
45:19So you think decadent.
45:20I would have covered the whole face in prosthetics if I could.
45:24So I think when you come to create another look, just think, what am I best at?
45:28And I'm going to lean into that.
45:30Make your job easier by doing something that you love and that you know you're good at.
45:34Thank you so much.
45:35Thank you, Mia.
45:36Thank you, Mia.
45:38Come on up, Jamie, and tell us your story.
45:44So my makeup look is based on the overconsumption and overindulgence of wealth in the music industry.
45:50The application of the bowl cap, cutting it up, I thought was really clever.
45:54The layering of the silicon to create this sort of mottling, she looks tarnished.
46:01That is really good.
46:03My worry is that you concentrated so much on the illusion aspect that the actual beauty makeup that's applied lacked.
46:12When we look at this eye, is it meant to be pretty?
46:15Is it meant to just look dusty and burnt?
46:17And the lip, I don't feel the wealth, I don't feel the luxury, I don't feel the decadence.
46:24I can see the decay, but I can't see the overindulgence.
46:31Right.
46:32Is the glam big enough?
46:34Does she look rich?
46:36No, I didn't want to go too extreme.
46:38You didn't want to go too extreme?
46:41The brief was maximalism.
46:45But I love the sort of luxury of the gold that you've created, and I think that that technique is really amazing.
46:51Thank you so much.
46:52Thanks, Jamie.
46:53Jake, please come forward.
47:01The idea of this is this is a character called Sweet Tooth, which is all my childhood sweets as one thing, and it's all dripping, and it's all together.
47:11Thank you for your story.
47:13Oh, my God, I love it!
47:16This is everything.
47:19It's stunning.
47:21I am obsessed with you and your use of color.
47:26You start with a wide wash, and then you get closer, and then you get closer.
47:31Just giving more nuggets of water, just giving more nuggets of water.
47:33It's just everything.
47:37The overall effect is just one of beautiful light play.
47:41I just thought this is trompe l'oeil, which is the French for trick the eye, chef's kiss.
47:46J'adore.
47:47J'adore.
47:48Thank you so much.
47:49I think that I see you as a painter.
47:54That's why you do the canvas first.
47:56This is the best painting that I have seen in this room.
48:01You know, you've got your monsters, and you love your monsters, but you have created a hero.
48:08This is original, maximal, and unique.
48:13This is such a major ding dong.
48:17Unbelievable.
48:18Thank you so much.
48:19I guess I've just had the perfect week.
48:22I won the industry assignment, and now I've just got a ding dong, so I'm starting to, like, believe in myself a bit more.
48:32MUAs, if you'd like to go next door, myself, Val, and Guy will be having a chat to work out which two of you will end up in the face-off elimination.
48:40Let's start by talking about the two artists in the face-off church.
48:46Let's start by talking about the two artists in the face-off church.
48:50We start with...
48:51Charisse.
48:52Okay.
48:53I think we've seen people in the past that they've done incredible makeup looks, but they're not thinking it's read the brief, and that's still kept them in the register, so I don't feel safe.
49:01I mean, Charisse did a number on us, because it's so beautiful.
49:07It feels like something you'd see in the National Portrait Gallery.
49:10I mean, I think it's a work of art.
49:13Glamour and decay, isn't it?
49:15Jamie.
49:17It is a shame.
49:18Jamie has talent, but he gets caught up in one part of the makeup and doesn't really look at the bigger picture.
49:27I don't think I've beat the seat because of how strong everyone else's looks were.
49:31They really like the mottling over the eye.
49:33I've actually done it with the bald cap as well.
49:35Crazy.
49:36What Jamie has done is good.
49:40Does it tell the story?
49:42No.
49:43No.
49:44And I don't think it's a successful meeting the brief.
49:47No.
49:48So let's talk about Mia.
49:50There's like five different ideas in there.
49:54And they don't fit together.
49:55Yeah.
49:56But her vein work, I really bought into that.
49:59But see, that's where her heart is.
50:01Maybe she just wants to work on a film.
50:03Yeah.
50:04Well, is that good enough to become Britain's next makeup star?
50:07Maybe not.
50:08Obviously, I didn't really get the look.
50:10I feel like I could be in the chair, but I just kind of hope my comments on the prosthetics keep me out of it.
50:15I think we all agree who's going into the face-off elimination.
50:20Yeah, I think so.
50:21I think so too.
50:22So guys, who here thinks that they could be in the face-off today?
50:28Well, guys, this has been tough.
50:41Charisse, Jamie, you both started today in the red face-off chairs.
50:45Charisse, your story wasn't completely clear, but you gave us an absolutely beautiful makeup look.
50:53Your use of colors, shades and textures was sublime.
50:58Once again, you beat the seat.
51:00Oh, my God.
51:01Oh, my God.
51:04Yes, I'm so proud.
51:06Well done.
51:07Jamie, we couldn't see your story.
51:11You spent so long with your prosthetics that it meant that the beauty was lacking.
51:17Unfortunately, you will be the first MUA going into the face-off elimination.
51:23Which means we have another seat to film.
51:28Mia, your prosthetics were amazing.
51:34But your look was over-complicated.
51:40So we couldn't see your decadence.
51:44So, Mia, you'll be the second MUA going into the face-off elimination.
51:51Thank you, judges.
51:54All right, guys.
51:55Get ready and say goodbye.
51:57Staying here is helping me grow as an artist and, like, really pushing my creativity.
52:01So I am definitely going to fight for this.
52:05Third time's a charm, I guess.
52:06I was sort of expecting it.
52:07But, yeah, I am definitely not going home today.
52:10I'm going to fight to the death.
52:14To create a level playing field, the MUAs will face-off over a set of identical twins.
52:23For today's face-off, we're going to be putting your line work to the test.
52:26We want you to create a striking, dull eye.
52:30You must create a liner underneath the lower lash line with seven bold, sharp under-eye lashes.
52:41These must be evenly spaced to create a balanced, symmetrical shape.
52:47To create the illusion of a dull eye, big, bold lashes are key.
52:53Firstly, leaving a small gap, draw a line under the lash line to make the eye look bigger.
52:59Then draw a lash either end of this line and one in the middle.
53:03Now you can add your remaining lashes.
53:06A top tip, use a cotton bud to help with the equal spacing of those lashes.
53:10Finally, use some concealer on a cotton bud to clean up any rough edges.
53:16And that is how you create a pretty, cutesy, dull eye.
53:20Mia and Jamie, you will have ten minutes to complete this face-off.
53:26Good luck.
53:28And your time starts now.
53:30Well, so far, it's neck and neck.
53:53Jamie was confident with his application that he's spending longer to make sure that that bottom lash line is symmetrical.
54:03But Mia, it was very timid.
54:06And I think when you're doing a liner like that with a pen, you've just got to go bold.
54:13You've just got to go...
54:14So they both started by putting the first lash in the middle.
54:24What I would have done was go to either end and work my way with the distance in between.
54:31MUAs, you have just two minutes left.
54:4410, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
55:06Brushes down, MUAs.
55:08Ah!
55:32Film Club?
55:33I think so.
55:39They both delivered on a smooth, sharp line-up.
55:45Yeah.
55:46Jamie delivered really great precision and symmetry.
55:51But what Jamie lacked was the sharpness and the cleanness of those lines.
55:57Definition.
55:59Mia has delivered lashes that are unevenly spaced.
56:03Because there's seven lashes on one side and six on the other.
56:09Oh, my God, I didn't count that.
56:10Yeah.
56:12It all comes down to one absent lash.
56:21MUAs, we both want to say just how incredible it is that you both have done so well in this competition to get here.
56:29It's amazing.
56:32Jamie, you delivered seven lashes on either eye that were beautifully balanced and evenly spaced.
56:45Mia, you had an absent lash on one side.
56:51And for that reason, please pack your kit. You'll be going home.
56:57Ooh.
56:59The competition has been hard.
57:01I'm still proud of everything I have achieved here.
57:04Everything happens for a reason.
57:06Yeah.
57:07Very true, very wise.
57:08And, you know, it starts now.
57:10You've got a future in prosthetics. You really do.
57:13Being here has very much changed my makeup career, and I really love it.
57:18She's back!
57:21Oh, my God!
57:25I'm now in the semifinals, which is amazing.
57:28I am bringing out every single thing that I have in my book.
57:31You are literally the cat with nine lives, babe.
57:34Yeah.
57:35I can smell the final.
57:38Someone has to go home.
57:39Someone has to go in the face-off.
57:40And it will not, definitely not be me.
57:44Next time...
57:45It's awards!
57:47...the red carpet beckons.
57:49Yes, honey.
57:51...in a high-stakes celebrity semifinal.
57:53Think Hailey Bieber.
57:55And at Glow Up Studios...
57:57I gots to go!
57:58I'm running!
57:59The race is on!
58:00Go, go, go!
