Wangaratta's feature sale drew buyers from Queensland to Bathurst, with Daniel Fischer noting standout results despite lighter-than-usual cattle.
Transcript
00:00Very strong sale. I mean, it's probably the feature sale of the calendar, this sale.
00:04Numbers are well back on general in most years.
00:06But the quality that was here, not as much weight as general or as previous years.
00:11A lot of calves weighing in at 200 to 280 with the odd calf a bit better than that.
00:15Very strong demand for any calf over 250 kilos.
00:20We saw our best calves leading out to around about $5.
00:22Some of the lighter calves touching on nearly $5.50.
00:25A lot of local support, a lot of commission buys, Duncan Brand, Andrew Lowe.
00:30We're very strong. We had Bathurst and even one buyer from Queensland that was quite active on those calves.
00:37Even without the irrigation, I think a lot of people understand that there's not going to be any of these cattle remaining in the area.
00:42If you're selling feeder steers, the changeover is fantastic at the moment.
00:44And I think that's what people are probably trying to do to minimise their feeding over winter.
00:48Oh, they're certainly lighter than previous years.
00:51But generally, there's no unhealthy calves here.
00:53Everything was very strong, fresh.
00:56They'll travel a long distance with no issues whatsoever.
01:00People are so healthy, that's a bigrupal.
01:12They're not afraid of trying.
01:20They can't leave.
