00:00And at Hangtown, round two of the Pro Moto Cross Championship.
00:03Gabe's about to drop for the first of four motos today,
00:07but there already have been bikes on track.
00:08Your Monster Energy 250 fast qualifier today is Hayden Deegan.
00:12Flipped it last week with second to Chance Hymus,
00:16this time Hymus second to Deegan in qualifying,
00:18but that's just the start of it.
00:19The racing, what's going to happen there?
00:21James Stewart, give us the KTM keys to the moto.
00:23Well, these guys are going to have to manage the heat.
00:25It is super hot out here today.
00:27You heard Tom be out, and if I'm everyone out,
00:29outside of Hayden Deegan, they've got to go in the offensive,
00:32try to rough them up.
00:34You're not going to be Hayden off the condition or speed-wise,
00:37so you've got to figure out how to go.
00:38You've got to go in the offense and take those chances.
00:42And that is Deegan putting everyone on their heels
00:44after going 1-1 at round one.
00:46It looked good the first couple laps for several others,
00:48and then Deegan unleashed it to put the pointers on Hymus and Deegan.
00:52Well, you never know in the 250 class who's going to jump to the forefront
00:56as we get ready to race.
00:57Here we go from Hangtown.
00:59Hymus has the whole shot second time this year.
01:07He's done that.
01:09Julian Beaumet right there as well.
01:10No, that's Villal.
01:13Great start by a chance.
01:14He had the perfect angle.
01:15He was in there, leaned that bike over, and it was good.
01:18Now it looks like Julian trying to get up around.
01:21Is that Casey Cochran?
01:21That's actually Casey Cochran, yeah.
01:24Yeah, Cochran and his teammate, Ryder DeFrancisco, the Rockstar Gas Gas Riders.
01:29Cochran is on the 40-25 as DeFrancisco.
01:32That's my bad.
01:32I thought that was Beaumet.
01:33It's actually Villal on the 16.
01:36Beaumet right behind him, the pair of KTMs.
01:38Yeah, good start by all these guys.
01:40Hayden Deegan's running around in sixth place, so he's got a good start.
01:43And they worked on this part of the track.
01:45They smoothed it up, so it's going to be an opportunity with that.
01:48Some good lines and not too much water down.
01:51This is big for these kids bouncing back from injury, Cochran and DeFrancisco.
01:55Cochran missed all of Monster Energy Supercross.
01:59Ryder DeFrancisco missed most of it.
02:01A leg injury for Cochran.
02:02Internal injuries for Ryder De, but they're strong right now.
02:05Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how these guys play,
02:06because normally these 250 guys, they're feet off, letting it hang out.
02:10And I'm wondering, will they just kind of take, like, the 450 guys, ease into it?
02:14Because it's going to be a hot day, and 30-plus, too.
02:16It's a long time for these guys to be on the racetrack with this heat.
02:19Ooh, a little Supercross rematch up ahead of Deegan.
02:22Seth Hamaker makes the move on Tom Villal.
02:25So he is up to fourth on the Monster Pro Circuit, Kawasaki and Green.
02:29Good battle.
02:30And we heard Tom said he needed to work on the beginning part of his day,
02:33the opening laps, and it seems like he's starting to have that same issue.
02:37Well, it comes right back at Hamaker, a bad line on the outside.
02:42Looks like we lost our leader, went off the racetrack.
02:43Uh-oh.
02:44So is that going to put Cochran into the lead?
02:48I believe it will.
02:50Second time in two weeks that Heimitz grabbed a hole shot that made a mistake while leading.
02:56We have what happened to the number 10.
02:57We'll give you the replay.
02:58Okay, he's heading up towards this step-up.
03:05And you can see they put a little bit of water down, assuming he gets a little wide.
03:08Okay, so he just jumps off the racetrack.
03:10That corner star is going back towards the left right there, and he just went a little wide.
03:14No harm, no foul, but definitely costly.
03:17Lose that lead.
03:17J.T.
03:19Well, Casey Cochran there.
03:20Remember, he was the fastest qualifier at his first ever visit to this racetrack in 2024.
03:25And when asked last weekend, like, hey, what are the goals?
03:28What do you think about for 2025?
03:30It was very simple.
03:30He said, I just want to remind people what I'm about and who I am.
03:35I think this is a pretty good start to reminding everybody of exactly that.
03:38Yeah, thanks, J.T.
03:39At the broken femur in the offseason.
03:41Last year was his rookie campaign.
03:43Did have a podium at Millville, Minnesota, but was really a learning year.
03:47This was expected to be a year to move forward.
03:48The injury has certainly slowed that, but he is showing what he is capable of right now.
03:52But Chance Hymus, quick recovery and putting pressure on.
03:56Let's see if Chance gets up the inside.
03:58Nice move by Casey, closing it off.
04:01And that was all set up by Chance just staying lower through those rollers, so he had that momentum.
04:05But look at Seth Hemmaker, way up to third place.
04:08He's ultra-aggressive.
04:09Good to see him.
04:11Yeah, Hemmaker said he made some bike changes.
04:13The bottom box is Vial and Deegan battling for fifth, just behind this lead group with DeFrancisco fourth.
04:21And then that trio of Cochran, Hymus, Hemmaker.
04:24Oh, Deegan looking to make the move.
04:26Yeah, let's see if he can get him.
04:27Tom let him have it.
04:29Hayden was over there.
04:30Tom was hoping that Hayden would come up a little short so he could close that door.
04:33But nonetheless, we saw Hayden do this last weekend.
04:36He just slowly made his way up in the beginning.
04:38He actually looks more aggressive today than he did last weekend.
04:41So we'll see how quickly he can make his way up towards the front.
04:45That was a critical juncture in the top box.
04:47Hymus not able to make that move on Cochran.
04:49Has to go back to work but also deal with the pressure from Hemmaker.
04:54And what's funny is these two, the 10 and the 56, ride together during the week.
04:58They train together at the Lawrence's Dog Pound compound in Florida.
05:02So they're very familiar with each other.
05:04Yeah, but I feel like the heat's going to test their friendship on this.
05:07You know, as this race goes on, we saw him battling last weekend.
05:10But, yeah, just to see Hayden, you know, make his way up, kind of aggressive compared to what he was.
05:15I think a lot of that came down to who's in front of you.
05:18Now you got Seth.
05:19He saw Seth pass him and then move his way up.
05:21So you might want to try to catch that toe as Hayden's trying to get around.
05:27Ryder D.
05:27Ryder D, excuse me.
05:29Yep.
05:29Old rivals from the amateur ranks.
05:30Two Californians here.
05:32DeFrancisco and Deegan, who's around the outside.
05:35Look at that drive out of the corner.
05:37Yeah, you saw that one coming.
05:38And if Seth doesn't get over, he's going to get passed again up the inside.
05:42Well, Seth made sure to get over there.
05:45Us riders, we got eyes in the back of our head, trust me.
05:47Especially with them Yamahs.
05:48They're loud.
05:50So Heimaker was pressing.
05:51Heimus now is going to have to deal with the champion who, again, just shoots around the outside.
05:57Man, what a move right there.
05:58And, yeah, Seth made a mistake and he got passed.
06:01And I think for him, you know, I don't think he realized that Hayden was slingshotting around.
06:05But nonetheless, he better catch a toe with that number one.
06:07So Deegan moving up, JT.
06:12Yeah, Deegan is on a charge here.
06:13And I think one of the most impressive, trying to figure out who is down there, looks like Ryder D and Vial.
06:18Ryder D and Vial.
06:19Oh, wow, yeah.
06:20Vial and DeFrancisco.
06:21So that's going to send them all the way to the back.
06:23JT, go ahead.
06:24Yeah, just adding on Deegan, which we'll get back to here.
06:26I think one of the most impressive things is he's able to take whatever line on the racetrack he wants and still make passes.
06:33That is the number one sign that you have more pace to burn.
06:37You don't have to take the preferable line.
06:40You can go exactly wherever the other rider is and still go faster.
06:43That means he's probably going to get out front and pull away before not too long, guys.
06:48Yeah, I agree, JT.
06:49And the luxury for him is he's able to explore these lines and realize, okay, this one doesn't work.
06:55And sometimes you just change the line just to make the other guy nervous.
06:58Well, he's sure making a lot of these guys nervous and also making up time as well.
07:02But right here, he'll get back and just stay on the inside, just stay on the outside of his roost,
07:08and he'll slingshot himself around.
07:11Definitely got this track figured out.
07:13These are the rivals.
07:14Hymas and Deegan had some words last season as they were battling.
07:19And there's been a little bit of it with the qualifying battles already this summer.
07:23But how about Casey Cochran starting to put time into them and pull away?
07:28Yeah, he was trying to remind us.
07:30I think he was reminding himself how good he is.
07:32It's good to see from that kid and saw a chance take a look back as he realized it's not his training partner behind him
07:39as that big number one.
07:40And you know where he's going.
07:43And pulled away a bit now from Handmaker.
07:45Handmaker telling me changes to the motorcycle was just too soft last week.
07:49He thought he would be better.
07:50He's running fourth right now.
07:51That is an improvement.
07:52But the focus is on Deegan versus Hymas.
07:55Uh-oh.
07:56Tom Vial is into the mechanics area.
07:58Oh, definitely.
07:59He's going.
08:00He's going to the pit.
08:01He's done.
08:02Man, that's a big hit for this championship.
08:05You know, not only today, but for the championship-wise.
08:08If Hayden wins this race, that's 25 points.
08:10So, wondering what happened here.
08:12Wow.
08:13Yeah, this is Vial who was on the podium last week.
08:16Certainly expected to run for the title.
08:19And now the run is toward the front.
08:21Deegan and Hymas about to hook it up.
08:24Yeah, I like this line for Hayden because then he goes back.
08:26Well, he didn't do it this time, but he was going wider.
08:28So, he was able to cut this corner.
08:30And what it does, it straights up this whole section.
08:32He's able to carry that momentum up.
08:34See if he works that in there.
08:35So, Deegan working on Hymas.
08:40Meanwhile, we'll try to figure out what happened to the 16th of Vial in this crash here.
08:46Left side.
08:48He loses the front.
08:50Then he just catches the back of Ryder D and pulls him down.
08:53That's why Ryder D was looking.
08:54But, yeah, Tom just lost the front.
08:56His elbow actually got caught up in his will.
08:59I hope he's okay.
09:01It looks there.
09:01It looks like he's all right.
09:02But, again, he has not finished the moto.
09:03What is going on up front?
09:05A three-rider battle.
09:08Hayden's trying to get a BOGO special right now.
09:10Two-for-one chance.
09:11Realized the number one.
09:12So, he needed to make his move on Casey and try to have a pick-and-roll situation going.
09:17And Hymas trying every line he can find.
09:20And also, Handmaker has climbed back into this battle.
09:23So, it's four riders and a fight for the lead.
09:26Yeah, you wouldn't think less than ten minutes into a race.
09:28This is very important for all these guys outside of Hayden to try to manage this.
09:32Because if I'm these guys, this is exactly what you need.
09:35Going to offense.
09:35Rough them up.
09:36Because we know if Hayden gets out front with this heat, his line selection, he's going to pull away.
09:42But Casey's holding his elements.
09:43Ah, you love to see it.
09:47Handmaker in this fight.
09:49Also, it's Shimoda now moving up to fifth.
09:51I think Hymas can get him.
09:56He's actually pulled away a little bit from Deegan.
09:58Yeah, I think Hayden made a little mistake.
10:01But right now, it looks like he's starting to settle back in.
10:03And then he'll do another attack.
10:05So, that's when you have that confidence.
10:07JT mentioned the line selection, being able to go anywhere on the lines.
10:10But also being able to take a break and then regroup and attack him.
10:13I think that's what you're about to see from number one.
10:15And Cochran responding to that challenge, putting a few bike lengths between himself and Hymas.
10:23And now Deegan on the charge again.
10:25All right, here's that line.
10:26So, he goes a little bit wider.
10:28Oh!
10:29Yeah, that's not what he wanted.
10:30What he wanted to do was cut in and get him a straight shot.
10:33So, he would have been on the insider chance.
10:35But obviously, overjumping that didn't help him out.
10:38Yeah, and a rough landing there for Deegan.
10:41But he's been pretty quick down here.
10:45All these guys are funneling towards that inside.
10:47Now past the mechanics area.
10:52Oh, this is so good to watch.
10:55Don't count Shimoda out.
10:56He is starting to get this lead four-pack in his sights.
11:00There he is.
11:02Yeah, Joe, we saw him last weekend coming up through the pack
11:05and was able to get around all these guys outside of Hayden.
11:10Oh, fantastic.
11:12Deegan on the outside.
11:13Hymas on the inside.
11:14Deegan going to make a big power run.
11:16They almost collide.
11:18Man, this kid's got these outside figured out.
11:21And it's a power move when you get slung, a slingshot and get passed by the outside.
11:26I mean, that's just a hit on chance.
11:28So, nice move.
11:28And I'm assuming Hayden is probably going to try to do the same thing.
11:32Maybe right here to Casey Cochran if he gets a nice, good run.
11:35JT.
11:37Just watching Hayden Deegan.
11:38I was expecting him to use the outside before that long run up Big Mo over there.
11:42But he actually switched to the inside based off of where Chimes Heimus was.
11:46Next lap around, if he has not gotten around Casey Cochran yet, watch that.
11:50That long climb after the first corner section, he has so much momentum.
11:55It gets a little dicey.
11:56He's on that scoop tire.
11:57It gets a little dicey at the top because he gets on the edge of the tire.
12:00But he has a great line up that hill.
12:01Might happen right here.
12:03Cochran able to beat him to the inside.
12:05Yeah, I like that from Casey.
12:06He didn't roll over there.
12:08So, nice move by him shutting that down.
12:11Working the edges on the inside.
12:14Yeah, Hayden's got a couple opportunities right here.
12:17As I mentioned, when he overjumped that good line, he can straighten up or try to get on the inside of Casey.
12:23But you can see all that sand, how slippery it is.
12:26And he loses the drive for this jump.
12:28So, Cochran able to escape.
12:30Let's see, by the way, can Hymas and Hamaker stay in this, try to get back to Deegan.
12:39They're going to drop back down.
12:42And these two, not strangers to each other in the amateur ranks either.
12:46Although, I feel like a broken record.
12:48Every time Deegan battles someone, you say, ah, he's a rival of Deegan's.
12:51Yeah, because they're all the same age.
12:53Just one is out there winning.
12:54But still, this is a great route from Casey because he's able to bend off Chance Hymas,
12:58which he was the fastest qualifier last week and won in our title hopes.
13:02So, good to see him come off injury.
13:06Oh, Hayden trying to turn that outside into something as he gets to the inside here.
13:11Drag race through turn one.
13:12That's where Deegan made the move on Hymas.
13:17He's got the inside now.
13:19Yeah, he got it.
13:19And the lead.
13:20Yeah, he got it there.
13:23That's the same line he used on Hymas for the most part.
13:26Yeah, I mean, but really, I don't know if he was expecting to go around Casey.
13:30Casey kind of laid off a little bit, allowed that pass to happen a little bit easier.
13:33Nonetheless, he was going to the front no matter what.
13:36That's Hayden Deegan, that is.
13:37Why would Cochran not be fighting him with everything he has in that situation?
13:41Well, sometimes, like, when you're young and not being in this situation,
13:44things start happening quick, and you can start to see him lose that toe.
13:46So, one of the things you try to do is breathe and relax.
13:50Maybe he has a little bit of arm pump.
13:53But anything that's not right, when you've got the number one around you, he's going to get passed.
13:57So, we'll see how Casey recovers after this one.
14:00Meanwhile, Haley has a report of the 16 of VL, who's out of the moto.
14:03Haley?
14:04Yes, I'm back here at Red Bull Factory KTM.
14:06There you can see Tom VL's bike being worked on,
14:09because the plan is he is going to race unless we hear otherwise.
14:12He actually came straight back to the pit area.
14:14As of right now, team personnel is saying he's just scratched up,
14:17but he may go be inspected by Alpine Stars Mole Medical for just a full clearance
14:22before going out for that second moto.
14:24I'll see what I can find out additionally.
14:26Thanks, Haley.
14:26Yeah, I would hope he could come out for moto too and try to salvage something.
14:31As Deegan, look at the gap he has pulled in this first lap out front.
14:37Very similar to what we saw last weekend.
14:39You know, when he's able to catch these guys,
14:41he's able to just pull a gap and almost demoralize them a little bit.
14:45We lost.
14:46Oh, Joe's got around seven.
14:48Oh, we lost seven.
14:49Wonder.
14:50Joe is all over Hymas now for third.
14:53And, yeah, where is Hamaker?
14:55And then Hamaker's teammate, Kitchen Six, Bomer, Masterpool, Moseman, Marchbank.
15:01That's top ten.
15:02Battle of the Hondas.
15:04Shemote on the inside, James.
15:06Yeah, Joe said, I can do it too.
15:07Hey, you ain't the only one that can pass people on the outside.
15:10So there you go.
15:11So, unfortunately for Joe, hopefully he can get around Casey and maybe put in some good laps.
15:15But it kind of looks like it did last weekend.
15:17It had that pace.
15:18But once you lose the toter, number one, it's just hard to catch him close that gap back down.
15:24Yeah, take Cochran out of the picture.
15:26And this is startlingly similar to the first moto last week.
15:31Hymas strong early.
15:32A couple of mistakes.
15:34Loses the lead.
15:35Shimoda and Deegan work their way up in formation.
15:38But for Casey Cochran, who, by the way, I believe his deal is up this year.
15:42He's a bit of a free agent.
15:44Really showing teams what he's capable of.
15:47Again, this is only his second professional season.
15:49So a great ride by the 40.
15:53Yeah, nice recovery by Casey.
15:58And it is Hamaker still there in fifth.
16:01Just lost some distance but did not lose track position except for Shimoda.
16:05And Levi Kitchen, who needs a rebuild after a rough go of it last week with a bike problem in Moto2.
16:13He's in sixth of our master pole.
16:15Bomara, Moseman, March Banks.
16:20Halfway through this Moto.
16:22Reminder of Monster Energy available now.
16:25Second place might be available now for Shimoda.
16:28He's starting to close.
16:29Yeah, Joe's starting to close on him.
16:31And I think it would be critical for him to, if he can get around.
16:35Hayden, he pulled that gap in that one lap.
16:37But then it kind of stays the same.
16:38So maybe if Joe can get around Casey, he can just stabilize that gap and maybe have a chance towards the end.
16:45But that's going to be hard work.
16:46Casey's riding really good.
16:47On the rock start, Gaskas was a Husqvarna rider.
16:51They moved him over.
16:52That's really a sister operation, Gaskas and Husqvarna.
16:58And he's looking for room.
17:02Oh, that worked.
17:04Yeah, and even if he's not able to pass him, it just opens up.
17:07And if he hits this corner, outfits finish on Lance Wright, he might be able to have a chance to square him up and get on the inside of Casey.
17:14Casey did the defense, but now Joe's going to switch him up again.
17:18That's a good run by Casey.
17:21Joe has to go to the inside.
17:23Give you an update on the fly racing riders in this field.
17:26Got the good-looking gear there on Cochran in second.
17:29Hymas fourth.
17:30Then he got the Bar X Toyota of Redlands, Yamaha riders Schwartz and Ross.
17:35And their 11th and 16th, DeFrancisco, who went down with Vial after running third early, is 20th.
17:43Trying to move back forward after the crash.
17:45I don't think that was actually DeFrancisco's fault.
17:48He got bumped when Vial went down right here.
17:52Yeah, it was after the rollers.
17:54And when Tom went down, I think his hand went into Roderick's back wheel.
17:58And it was a slower part of the racetrack.
17:59So probably Hans was not on the clutch.
18:02Probably stalled the motorcycle and he just fell over.
18:03So definitely not his fault.
18:04Just a tough break for him.
18:07It's a hard hit by Joe right there.
18:10Cochran doing a great job.
18:11I mean, you had the likes of Hymas and Hamaker putting pressure on.
18:14And he has distanced himself from them.
18:17Still going to deal with it from Shimoda, though, the rider out of Japan.
18:21Yeah, what's impressive about Casey is that, yeah, he's holding Joe off.
18:25But he's not holding Joe up.
18:26Meaning, like, he's not allowing the guys behind him to, you know, catch him.
18:30So sometimes when you get a rider out there, they're a little bit slower and the guys faster, they start blocking them, slowing you down.
18:36Casey's not doing that.
18:37He's just protecting his line, which is great.
18:38Bottom box battle just outside the top ten.
18:43You have Jeremy Martin and Jordan Smith.
18:45Good to see Jeremy back on that number six two-time champion in the class.
18:49We thought he was going to retire.
18:51Instead, he's back for at least the first three races this summer with his old championship squad.
18:56Star Racing, top box, Shimoda dances his way down to the inside and takes second away.
19:01Yeah, I think Casey was probably thinking Joe wasn't going to be able to pass him since he had the inside.
19:06Joe has some other plans and got him before the section.
19:09So nice, strong move by him.
19:13See what he can do.
19:14Now it's 5.7 seconds.
19:16See if he can at least stabilize that gap or close it.
19:21Joe's going to be labeled Mr. Second Place here, looking to start the year with three straight seconds.
19:26To Deegan, that bottom box, meanwhile, as for Martin that we were talking about,
19:32that's an improvement over last week.
19:33It's hovering down the top 20, now near the top 10.
19:36Let's get more of the 30 from JT.
19:39Yeah, just thinking about Joe Shimoda, he and Hayden Deegan,
19:42obviously they've gone one-two so far throughout this series,
19:45but the impressive thing about that is they've been the only two that can systematically move forward.
19:51If you look throughout the pack, Handmaker, Chimus,
19:53everybody else has kind of been stuck where they start.
19:57These two, regardless of where they start, have been able to get to the front.
20:00That bodes really well for them moving forward because they seem to have the pace advantage
20:05and they can also pass when nobody else can.
20:08Yeah, that's a great point.
20:10And it's really big for Joe because that was one of his downfalls.
20:14As I said, trying to pass people is very, I wouldn't say nice,
20:18but sometimes you've just got to be aggressive.
20:20We know Hayden's really aggressive.
20:21So to be able to see Joe in three motos now make his way up through the pack
20:25just shows that he has the speed, but he also has the right mindset
20:28that he wants to move forward and try to attack for some of these wins.
20:31He checked in with Shimoda this morning.
20:35He said they threw a lot of different things at the bike in qualifying last week,
20:37but he's pretty happy with the motos.
20:39Didn't need to make huge changes for round two.
20:42Trio of teammates battling here.
20:44Handmaker, Master Pull, and Kitchen on the Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki's fifth, sixth, seventh.
20:50Yeah, and I believe Ty was actually able to get around Levi
20:52because Levi was ahead of him behind his teammate and Handmaker.
20:58So kind of surprising to see Seth go back like that after that start,
21:02making his way up because he was able to pass Hayden and a few other guys.
21:06Now he's starting to go backwards.
21:07And I'm equally surprised to see Master Pull moving up because he is ill today
21:11and we're talking about probably around 100 degrees to temperature outside.
21:15I talked to his dad this morning.
21:17He said he was not 100% last week, really bad this week,
21:21and he said full salvage mode for points, and instead he's charging on the 26.
21:26Yeah, but, you know, what happens sometimes, especially when it's hot out there,
21:30it's almost like everybody's going to rot like they're sick,
21:32meaning these guys aren't going to go wide open.
21:34And so unlike other weekends where it's not hot, I believe these guys are out there,
21:38everyone else, they're rotting like they're sick because they're trying to save energy,
21:42and that's going to allow Ty to be able to somewhat stabilize this thing.
21:46And now he's starting to move forward.
21:47Yeah.
21:48Oh, he's running really well here.
21:50He's on the inside of his right-hander, and he takes the measure of his teammates.
21:54So Master Pull up to fifth.
21:56That was a beautiful line by Ty.
22:00Nice, smooth line.
22:01I always felt like either when you're injured or you're sick, you find those good lines like that.
22:05I don't know if you just slow down, the mind slows down,
22:07but you find some good lines around the racetrack, and he's making his way up.
22:10He's right on the back of Chance Hymus already.
22:13And then Kitchen now leaning on Hamaker, and Kitchen needs this.
22:16He's got to get some momentum going, James.
22:18Yeah, absolutely.
22:19Tough break last weekend.
22:21Not the good first motor you want, but then the second motor, having the DNF,
22:25not the way he wanted to start his year off.
22:27And then he came out with the haircut, the fire hairstyle.
22:31So you better bring the heat out here even more than what it already is.
22:35At the back of this battle, Michael Moseman.
22:38Oh, that is Hymus off the track.
22:40Hymus off the track, so Master Pull around him, and here comes Hamaker.
22:44Yeah, Chance has been having struggles with the racetrack.
22:47I guess it's not wide enough.
22:48He's probably thinking it's hit.
22:49Is this regulation size out here that keeps going off the track?
22:53Oh, man, Hymus has come undone, so that Kawasaki trio goes by.
22:58Look at Levi Kitchen on the 47, fighting, and makes the move on Hamaker.
23:03Yeah, Levi saw his teammate go, so, you know, sometimes you can tell,
23:07and Seth is definitely not as aggressive with what he was earlier.
23:11So now with Chance going out, now these guys sniff the podium.
23:14He's right here, moves high up into third place, or fourth place,
23:18and you've got Casey Cochran right in third, so might have a chance for seven minutes to go.
23:23Yeah, let's look at the gaps here.
23:24It's only about a second now between Master Pull and Cochran.
23:30This was not what I thought we were going to get from Master Pull today.
23:34Meanwhile, Hymus has now been passed by Moseman as well.
23:37Moseman, a local, grew up riding this track.
23:40So good to see him back after several years out with injury, and Hymus all the way back to eighth place.
23:47Yeah, and that's going to be a tough break because we've seen this happen in the past,
23:50and that's why I was really impressed with Chance last weekend.
23:52He went off the – when he went down, he was able to get back up,
23:55and he was still battling for that, you know, the podium.
23:57So to see this happen, I'm sure it's tough for him because he was at one point leading.
24:02Now he's out, and he's riding around in eighth place, Haley.
24:04And for Casey Cochran, exactly.
24:08He is looking forward to this season, riding these tracks for the second time.
24:11Last year he was learning so much, and when I asked him,
24:14did you get everything you wanted out of 2024, he said yes.
24:17But most specifically, I know what it takes to lead laps and be out front.
24:21And the fact that he's maintained this position here, this has been great for Casey Cochran.
24:25Yeah, thanks, Haley.
24:26He has ridden like it's not one of the first times he's done this.
24:30No, I mean, I'm really impressed.
24:33And you've got to have – this is the first time he had the fastest qualifying last year here.
24:36He really broke out with that speed.
24:38So, again, when you're watching –
24:40Oh, he's had Jeremy Martin in that bottom box.
24:43Oh, you hate to see that.
24:45Yes, it is the sixth of Martin.
24:47As in the big box, that is Master Pull battling Cochran.
24:50But Jeremy in what he's calling the cherry on top of the sundae,
24:54he's just trying to have fun out here and now out.
24:57Hope he's okay.
24:58Yeah, I can tell where he's at.
24:59You can look at his shoulder.
25:00That's a tough place to go down.
25:02It's right in front of us.
25:03So, out.
25:06And look at Master Pull looking for running room.
25:10This is for a podium in the moto.
25:15Yeah, Casey knows if you just get to that inside and block him,
25:19then those guys won't be able to get around you.
25:21But Ty's starting to get impatient because now you can see Levi coming up.
25:25Levi just wanted to try to get both of them.
25:27They keep playing around.
25:28Oh, Master Pull puts himself on the outside to inside and makes the move.
25:35Yeah, Casey's starting to labor a little bit.
25:36It's hot out here.
25:37So, being out all year, it's to be expected.
25:40It's still a great ride for him.
25:41But if he doesn't watch out, the number 47 is going to get him as well.
25:44It reminds me of Julian Beaumere last week who led for a bit, thought for sure he'd podium.
25:49But this 250 class is relentless.
25:52And now it is Kitchen looking to take fourth away.
25:56Yeah, Levi should have the inside down here.
25:58Oh, Casey closing them off.
26:01There you go.
26:03He's going to have to get out of his burn.
26:04But still fighting.
26:08Now, Kitchen couldn't get that triple.
26:09Look at this, Cochran.
26:11He might get Master Pull back.
26:12Yeah, Master Pull didn't get the triple either.
26:14So, Casey almost got him.
26:16Oh, Kitchen.
26:17Oh, that was beautiful.
26:19That was a new line.
26:20I haven't seen anybody take that.
26:21Got to keep that one for the back pocket.
26:23Power move out of the corner for the 47.
26:26Takes fourth away.
26:29This is the Levi Kitchen we expected to see last weekend at Fox Raceway Round 1.
26:35And he still has a shot at his teammate for third.
26:39Yeah, and if you know you've got a little inside scoop, you know he's not feeling well.
26:42So, maybe he's put a little bit of pressure on him.
26:43I'm sure he'd be happy for just the top five.
26:46So, right now he's in that third spot.
26:49Yeah, I forgot.
26:50These guys are trying to keep the elements under wraps, but you're not going to do that
26:53when the guy's got a bunk right next to you in the truck.
26:55Yeah, when he's coughing all over you in between motos.
26:58So, you kind of know the secrets.
27:02Hamaker now pressing Cochran as well.
27:11Still three and a half minutes and two laps to go.
27:13Deegan and Shimoda are gone as Hamaker makes a move on Cochran.
27:18Yeah, that's three passes in the last lap.
27:22So, Casey has to hold on because he's got another one.
27:25Michael Moseman coming behind him.
27:28As you mentioned, that's what's hard about this glass because it's so deep.
27:31Yeah.
27:31And all these guys are running at the same pace.
27:33So, when you start, when you're losing it, man, they come and train packs.
27:38Yeah, I mean, 25 great minutes for Cochran, and look who it's going to result in.
27:42He's about to get past.
27:44For six, there's Moseman.
27:50Moseman can't quite get it done, JT.
27:53Well, you see Cochran just starting to lose the sharp end of that pace.
27:57And I would say the same thing has happened to Chance Hymas, who's dropped back tonight
28:00and is under a ton of pressure from Julian Beaumere.
28:03If we are looking for what does the heat do to you, will we be able to visibly see it?
28:08This is what it looks like.
28:09You just can't hold that lap time.
28:11You start dropping back through the field when you get hot.
28:14Yeah.
28:14Yeah, and to your point, JT, looks like Moseman's about to finish the pass.
28:20He does on Cochran.
28:22So now Cochran all the way back to seventh after running up front earlier.
28:26Yeah, that's tough.
28:27But in case you still look at the positive, I mean, it's still hot, still a good ride.
28:31I mean, he had the pace, and, yeah, just tough.
28:35And what's the old saying that the team managers go with?
28:37We can work with speed.
28:39Cochran showed he has speed.
28:40Yep.
28:41Qualifying and by leading early.
28:43This, meanwhile, is what the total package looks like.
28:46You were pretty intrigued when you looked at the lap charts even last week.
28:49It's not just speed for Deegan.
28:51No, actually, the first Moto Deegan was, Hayden was like the fourth fastest, you know,
28:56and I think that's what the cool part about him is that he's not beating those guys off his speed.
29:01I mean, even this Moto, Joe is actually closing the gap down, but it's this.
29:06He's taking the chances out, and he's able to attack when he needs to, and he's out front again.
29:12And making it look easy for the now two-time SMX world champion,
29:17and those SMX playoffs will return starting September 6th.
29:21Get your tickets to history.
29:22Go to SuperMotocross.com.
29:25Kicks off at Z-Max Dragway, part of the Charlotte Motor Speedway Complex.
29:30Big gap between Deegan and Shimoda, but an even larger one back to, it should be Masterpool in third,
29:39although he is dealing with his teammate, Kitchen, and it changed.
29:43Yeah, Levi got around him.
29:44As I mentioned, he knows the secrets.
29:46He knows Ty's not feeling good, and Joe must have had a bad lap that last one
29:50because I looked earlier in the lap, and he actually got the gap down to five seconds,
29:53so he must have made a big mistake, and he lost that time.
29:55But nonetheless, good to see these guys up here.
29:58Even a good ride by Tom Masterpool and Levi to not the best start,
30:02but to keep making his way up.
30:03And when you start looking at Chance Hymas, you know, a title favorite,
30:07you know, at least to go up against Hayden to be one of the threats.
30:10Good to see Levi, you know, rebound out for what we saw last weekend.
30:16Send it down to Haley with more on the rider up to third.
30:18It's the chef, and the difference between working really hard
30:22and going all-in is small, but it's everything.
30:24We know him to be a frontrunner, but this year he's made big changes.
30:27He's put on weight to be stronger.
30:29He's hired a nutritionist, got his overall health figured out,
30:32specifically his allergies, and not just that, but he's hired a mental coach.
30:36So Levi Kitchen, good to see him really coming alive in this moto.
30:40Boy, Haley, when I hear that, I just think about the investment.
30:42That is money out of his own pocket that these riders are spending
30:45to try to get to that next level.
30:48Because that's really the 250 class.
30:50It's both now, but also establishing yourself for the future.
30:54He's taking no chances, Kitchen, to try to get to that next level.
30:58Yeah, I mean, ultimately, the goal is to be racing up against Jet Lawrence.
31:02Right.
31:02And for all these guys, if you go back just three years ago, we saw Levi be able to beat
31:07Jet Lawrence in this class just straight up, you know.
31:10So now you look at Jet Lawrence's powerhouse winning everything.
31:14These guys have a goal in front of them, and they see the guy that they're going to be chasing.
31:18A couple years ago, he was racing with them.
31:19So whatever it's going to take, they're going to have to figure it out.
31:21But see Levi investing in himself.
31:24How about Michael Moseman here, the Monster Yamaha Star Racing Machine?
31:28It was a huge crash at this track, his home track.
31:33I thought that might have been the end.
31:34We did not see him for a long time.
31:36Multiple concussions.
31:37And then a crash, I believe, while practicing with this team.
31:41Came back for Supercross last year.
31:42He's getting ready for outdoors.
31:44Broken neck.
31:45That's why he wears the neck brace, which is pretty rare to see on the track these days.
31:49And the doctor said that was very close to being a catastrophic neck injury.
31:55But he didn't want to give up on it.
31:57He wanted to have a new approach to racing and see how it would go.
31:59He's really focusing on the consistency.
32:02And he's been quiet the last couple of weeks, but the results have been good.
32:06Eight last week.
32:07I believe it was top five at the Salt Lake finale for Supercross.
32:11And look at him go right now.
32:12Yeah, and he looks good.
32:13I mean, he was the fastest rider on the racetrack, you know, by a couple tenths of last lap.
32:17And by his body language, I mean, he's not laboring.
32:20And he has a chance that he should be able to get Ty Masterpool right in front of him.
32:24So that would be a good result for him.
32:25And a lot of these guys, I mean, again, it really comes down to a start.
32:29And it's good to see Michael and these dudes up here.
32:32And I believe with the heat, it starts not as important because the guys will start fading towards the end.
32:37So you might be able to make some passes up, and you're starting to see that with Michael.
32:40And remember, with the two-moto format, this pass could be critical.
32:44Imagine Moseman making the podium at his home race here at Hangtown.
32:48Fifth right now.
32:49Put the two motos together.
32:50He's certainly a player for it.
32:52A lot of fans to cheer if that happens.
32:55Yeah, I'd like to see that happen, especially when you see these guys that return off injuries.
32:59He's like, you know, look, we all look up the Jett Lawrence's heroes to a lot of these kids.
33:03But I look at guys like Austin Fortner, guys that never quit, you know, Michael Moseman.
33:08You know, even Ty Masterpool, Seth Handmaker.
33:11These guys are my heroes because they have that attitude of where most mortals would give up.
33:17They never do.
33:18And they continue to come out here and fight.
33:19And that shows a lot of grit.
33:21Those are the guys you want to see have that success.
33:25Masterpool fighting off the pressure from Moseman at the moment.
33:29No pressure at all with a nearly 10-second lead for Hayden Deegan.
33:36I don't even know if we can say this is a danger zone right now.
33:38He's just in his own zone.
33:40Yeah, he's in his own zone.
33:42Yeah.
33:43White flags out, James.
33:44Jersey untucked.
33:46Get a little more ventilation on a 100-degree day.
33:49Whatever it takes.
33:50You know, he's just going so fast.
33:51Jersey can't even stay in.
33:52So whatever it is.
33:54But, you know, again, what happened when those guys, if they don't.
33:59That was weird.
33:59He was, like, sitting down right there.
34:01But if those guys don't attack him, if they allow him out front,
34:04we've seen him be able to pull gaps, like, chunks of time within one lap.
34:09And that's gnarly.
34:10And when you look at the lap times, I mean, he's about less than a second faster than Joe.
34:15So it's not like he's going two, three seconds faster.
34:17But when he makes those passes and he's out front, it might as well be.
34:21And he cruises from that point.
34:25It might not be the danger zone.
34:27It might be his own zone.
34:28But it is certainly dangerous to see this type of dominance early.
34:33Not good starts.
34:34Sixth, seventh early in these first three motos of the year.
34:37And at the end of the moto, look at this, cruise mode.
34:41Yeah, and when you want to try to, you know, out-condition him
34:45or you think maybe the heat will get to him, he's in recovery mode
34:48as he's pulling his best chance high-miss impression right now.
34:51We might need to check the, I don't know if this track is regulation stops.
34:54These guys are going all off the racetrack.
34:56Out of bounds.
34:58Yeah, but that's just him cruising.
35:00Probably got a little laxed over there.
35:02But take a look back.
35:03He's still eight and a half seconds behind you.
35:05Yeah, Shimoda and the rest of the field covered.
35:09And is it too early to start already teasing that, we believe, a year from now?
35:14Hayden Deegan's probably going to be in the 450 class.
35:16And what a showdown looms there
35:20as he keeps putting resume bullets up in the 250s with dominant rides like this.
35:24No, I mean, if he keeps doing this, then, yeah, he's going to be up in that.
35:28And you're talking about a contrast in style.
35:30Boy, that would be the heavyweight title fight that one.
35:32Yeah.
35:33Versus Jett Lawrence.
35:34Yep.
35:35Mr. Smooth against a kid who is so aggressive.
35:39Checkered flag now in sight.
35:41Three motos down.
35:43Three motos win.
35:46Four.
35:47Danger Boy.
35:48Hayden Deegan taking the victory.
35:50There's Shimoda.
35:51Three motos down.
35:52Three seconds.
35:53For the Honda HRC progressive rider.
35:56Masterpool digging deep.
35:58He's sick.
35:59It's 100 degrees.
36:00He gets fourth at Kitchen.
36:02He needed to rebuild it after a tough start to the summer.
36:06And he does with a solid third in Moto1.
36:10Yeah, looking down at his screen, I see Chance Hyman's in 13th.
36:14Wow.
36:15Yeah.
36:17These are riders styling themselves as title contenders.
36:20It's for at the very least a big loss of points.
36:23And whatever else could come with that.
36:26Look at Jett Lawrence trying to stay cool as long as possible.
36:28Yeah.
36:29Go on.
36:45Yeah.
36:46Okay.
36:47Cheers.
36:51Cheers.
36:52Cheers.
36:53Cheers.
36:53Cheers.
36:53Cheers.
36:54Cheers.
36:54Cheers.
36:54Cheers.
