Why you should avoid Newark Airport this summer

00:00So Newark is a huge hub for United. A lot of folks have traveled out of there this summer.

00:05We are telling people at the Points Guy, if you can change your flight to fly out of LaGuardia,

00:10Philadelphia, or JFK instead, we recommend doing that. Not so much because of the safety issues,

00:17though that is a concern, but more because so many delays and cancellations are happening.

00:23The big story is a dramatic shortage of air traffic controllers. They don't have the people

00:28they need, manning the Philadelphia TRACON, where they run Newark flights from.

00:33So I think it's going to be a mess all summer long. There are efforts underway.

00:37There have been efforts underway to solve some of these ATC shortage problems,

00:41but we're just not there yet, and I think Newark's going to be a mess all summer long.
