00:00What's your initial reaction to the plans unveiled by the Prime Minister today?
00:06Is it enough to protect the UK from global threats?
00:11Well, good afternoon. You heard the strong language there by the Prime Minister,
00:16and that's echoed right across the piece here.
00:18Britain needs to become war-ready, if you like, given how dangerous the world is becoming.
00:24The threats we now face are more serious and less predictable than at any time since the Cold War.
00:30We've got this war raging in Europe. Russia hasn't changed its stance.
00:34New nuclear risks are there, as well as us on the receiving end of daily cyberattacks.
00:40So we do need to upgrade our defence posture.
00:45And like with many nations, we've fallen behind in how we approach defence over the last couple of decades.
00:50It's been a pretty easy couple of decades, but those days are now over
00:55because the very character of conflicts is changing as those threats indeed increase.
01:01So this defence review is certainly ambitious in overhauling and upgrading what Britain will look like.
01:07The big question, though, is whether the money will be there to spend what is actually quite elaborate plans
01:14to take our Army, Air Force, Navy, our cyber and space capabilities into another place.
