ICE says nearly 1,500 arrested in Massachusetts immigration enforcement operations

ICE officials announced on Monday, June 2, that nearly 1,500 were arrested in immigration enforcement operations in Massachusetts.

“These brave men and women have worked tirelessly to arrest approximately 1,500 criminal aliens and illegal aliens here in Operation Patriot,” said Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons.

Lyons also addressed the recent incident in Boulder, Colorado where suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, attacked a pro-Israeli rally that injured eight people.

00:00These brave women have worked tirelessly to arrest approximately 1,500 criminal aliens and illegal aliens during Operation Patriot.
00:09In the beginning of May, ICE and its federal and state partners launched the whole-of-government effort to remove dangerous criminal aliens from all over the Commonwealth.
00:18I'll let our Boston Field Office Director give you the specific numbers of Operation Patriot, but what I can tell you is this,
00:25that hundreds of braves officers and agents risk their lives every day.
00:30Here in the Commonwealth, to remove dangerous criminals from Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Lowe, Lawrence, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and several other communities across the Commonwealth.
00:42So I'll defer to the FBI on that one. It's an active joint terrorism investigation, obviously.
00:47Still in the early stages that ICE was able to identify that he had overstayed his visa.
00:54While he did have a work authorization permit, it was expired.
00:58So with that, I will say that there are millions of individuals like this that we are attempting to locate from the past administration that weren't properly screened.
01:09We had intelligence from a local law enforcement agency.
01:11We were looking for the father.
01:13And like Field Office Director High said, they made a traffic stop on that vehicle, which was the father's vehicle.
01:19He was driving that vehicle.
01:21But like any local law enforcement officer, if you encounter someone that has a warrant or, like I said, is here illegally, we will take action on that.
01:28Yeah, well, the whole due process thing, ICE doesn't just scoop people off the street and remove them.
01:33Everyone gets due process.
01:34And that is what the U.S. Attorney's Office is for.
01:36That's what the immigration courts are for.
01:38They all do that.
01:39He will go in front of an immigration judge.
01:40He'll have the opportunity to post bond.
01:43But again, I'm just going to ask you a question.
01:44I mean, Boston police stopped an 18-year-old on the way to high school.
01:48Are we having this conversation right now?
01:51There will be a crime.
01:52There will be some evidence.
01:53It happens every day.
01:54Every day.
01:55There are multiple 18-year-olds arrested.
01:58But yet, we are focused on this one.
02:00And I will say, his dad hasn't turned himself in yet.
02:03And his dad knows he's the target of it.
02:05In regard to Macello Gomes, he remains in ICE custody.
02:09He was not the target of the investigation.
02:11But like we have repeatedly said, sanctuary policies put us in a position to go out into
02:16communities and look for people.
02:19When jurisdictions don't cooperate with ICE and we don't put people, we don't arrest
02:24people in custodial arrests, then we must go out into the community.
02:29And when we go out into the community and we find others who are unlawfully here, we
02:34are going to arrest them.
02:41We are going to arrest them.
