Protesters call anti-ICE protest in Los Angeles a 'beautiful day of resistance'

Federal agents in Los Angeles faced off against demonstrators for a second day in a row on Saturday, June 7, following immigration raids a day earlier, prompting a senior White House official to call the protests a "violent insurrection."

The security agents on Saturday were in a tense confrontation with protesters in the Paramount area in southeast Los Angeles, where some demonstrators displayed Mexican flags and others covered their mouths with respiratory masks.

Live video footage showed dozens of green-uniformed security personnel with gas masks lined up on a road strewn with overturned shopping carts as small canisters exploded into gas clouds.

00:00And so it is a beautiful day of resistance because Trump, the administration, the border
00:24patrol, ICE, they know, now they know, that they cannot go anywhere in this country where
00:30our people are and try to kidnap our workers, our people, and they can't do that without
00:36an organized and fierce resistance. And that's what they encounter here today.
00:54It's disappointing, it's heartbreaking to know that our community is going through this,
01:07but it's also beautiful to see everybody come out together and stand against it,
01:11and I think we need to continue doing that.
01:12And for every single minute that we were here resisting against the border patrol,
01:18that was time that they were not out deporting people in our community. They could not kidnap
01:22people in our community today because the people came out to resist.
01:33I came down for my friends and co-workers that can't be down here because they're too scared to protest.
01:39And I believe everyone should be here. This is, you know, stolen land anyway. So we're just doing
01:46what's right. And thank much for us for Black Lives Matter. So I'm just returning the favor.
01:52It is time to rebel. It is time to rebel.
01:56I should eat, go to hell. I should eat, go to hell.
02:00La migra, la policĂa, la misma pocherĂa. La migra, la policĂa, la misma pocherĂa.
02:09I should be here.
