00:00There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people.
00:03Psychopaths and mystery writers.
00:05I'm the kind that pays better.
00:06Who am I?
00:07I'm Rick Castle.
00:08Castle.
00:09Castle.
00:09I really am ruggedly handsome, aren't I?
00:12Every writer needs inspiration, and I've found mine.
00:14Detective Kate Beckett.
00:15Beckett.
00:16Beckett.
00:16Nicky Heath.
00:17The character he's basing on you.
00:18And thanks to my friendship with the mayor, I get to be on her case.
00:21I'd be happy to let you spank me.
00:23And together we catch killers.
00:25Make a pretty good team, you know, like Starsky and Hutch.
00:27Turner and Hooch.
00:28You do remind me a little of Hooch.
00:30Sophie?
00:31Sophie, are you in there?
00:33Sophie, the procession starts in 15 minutes.
00:36If that girl ruins your wedding.
00:38I'm not worried about the wedding, Mother.
00:40I'm worried about Sophie.
00:42If I had as much champagne as she did last night, I'd probably be late for February.
00:46Oh, hey, can you open this door for us?
00:48It's an emergency, please.
00:55Sophie?
00:56Sophie?
00:57The bed hasn't been slept in.
01:04She's not in the bathroom.
01:06Go and see if her dress is still here.
01:07Make sure it's nice and tight.
01:18Sir, what on earth are you two doing?
01:21Research.
01:22Dad has Nikki Heat duct taped to a chair in his next chapter and he doesn't know how to get her out of it.
01:27I thought what better way to figure it out than to get into the mind of my character.
01:30I don't know.
01:31I suppose you could just use your imagination.
01:34I want it to be authentic.
01:36Hands.
01:36Well, hurry taping up your father.
01:40We don't want to be late.
01:42Oh, God, I can't believe I just said that.
01:44Were you two off to?
01:45Graham's got a dress rehearsal.
01:46I thought I'd go watch.
01:47Watch me or watch the adorable delivery boy in the second act?
01:52Too tight?
01:54Perfect.
01:55And you're sure about your mouth?
01:56Like I said, authentic.
02:03Not if you're okay.
02:04Okay, we're off.
02:05And after, we might go shopping.
02:09So...
02:10You don't mind, right?
02:13Oh, come on, Dad.
02:13We both know you'd have no respect for me if I didn't.
02:16Have fun.
02:17And good luck.
02:18Uh-huh.
02:19I don't know where she gets it from.
02:20Honestly, I don't.
02:22Bye.
02:23Adios.
02:26Victim is Sophie Ronson, 35.
02:48She's in from L.A. for the wedding.
02:49Was she a guest?
02:50Uh-uh.
02:51Bridesmaid.
02:52Bride came looking when Miss Ronson didn't show up for her hair and makeup.
02:58Got her stuffed in that armoire.
03:02What do you see?
03:03Preliminary cause is asphyxiation.
03:05And from the way her windpipe is crushed, I'd say the killer choked her from behind.
03:09You've got contusions on her throat.
03:11One of her earrings is missing.
03:13It looks like it was yanked from her lobe.
03:16We searched the room.
03:18The earring's not here.
03:18Get CSU to print out a picture so that uniforms can start searching the hotel.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Time of death?
03:25Based on temperature and lividity, I'd say between 3 and 5 a.m. this morning.
03:30Mm-hmm.
03:31Let's talk to hotel security.
03:32I want to see surveillance tapes and a list of all registered hotel guests.
03:36Get records for her room phone and herself.
03:37I'm on it.
03:38Uh-huh.
03:39Hotel says only one key card was issued to the victim.
03:41It was last used to enter the victim's room at 3.18 a.m.
03:43Okay, well, that coincides with time of death.
03:46Where are the bride and groom?
03:47Bridal suite at the end of the hall.
03:48Uh, Greg and Kira.
03:50Okay, have uniforms assemble the wedding guests in the bar to be interviewed.
03:53Where's the castle?
03:54I don't know.
03:55Figured the death of a bridesmaid would be right up his alley.
03:57Heard wedding and probably got cold feet.
04:00Hmm.
04:03Oh.
04:05Ah!
04:06Ah!
04:06Ah!
04:06Ah!
04:07Ah!
04:07Ah!
04:07Ah!
04:08Ah!
04:08Ah!
04:08Ah!
04:08Ah!
04:08Ah!
04:09Ah!
04:10Ah!
04:11Ah!
04:12Ah!
04:12Ah!
04:13Ah!
04:14Ah!
04:14Ah!
04:15Ah!
04:16Ah!
04:17Ah!
04:17Ah!
04:18Ah!
04:18Ah!
04:21When was the last time that you saw Sophie?
04:23At the rehearsal dinner last night.
04:26I don't even think I talked to her.
04:29She came all this way for us and I don't think I even said hello.
04:32It's not your fault, Kira.
04:34It was a crazy day.
04:36Did you talk to her after I went up to bed?
04:38No.
04:39You know how Uncle Teddy is.
04:40He wouldn't let me leave without doing tequila shots.
04:42I escaped up to my room around 1pm.
04:43I escaped up to my room around 1pm.
04:44I'm not sure if Sophie was still at the bar.
04:47The two of you weren't in the same room last night?
04:49No.
04:50It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding.
04:53I don't know.
04:54Is there anything else you can tell me about Sophie?
04:57Was she in a relationship?
04:58Did she have any enemies?
04:59I don't know.
05:00She lived in L.A. and we were never super close.
05:04Sophie introduced us.
05:06She's the reason we're together.
05:07So when we were planning the wedding, we thought she should be there.
05:11But the engagement party was the first time we'd seen her in a couple of years.
05:16Now she's dead.
05:18Who would do something like this?
05:20That's what we're here to find out.
05:22Here you go.
05:23Thanks, Jill.
05:24That's great.
05:25Hotel security?
05:26Yeah.
05:27They do background checks on all their employees.
05:30Seemed pretty sure there wasn't a killer among them, but he gave me the list.
05:33He's also pulling the surveillance tapes.
05:35Good news is the elevators are all wired.
05:37Bad news is the stairwells and hallways aren't.
05:40Hello.
05:41Look who it is.
05:42You're about to send out a search party.
05:43Where you been?
05:44I got a little tied up with work.
05:46Which way to the crime scene?
05:47Sixth floor.
05:49Hey, bro.
05:51Is that duct tape on your pants?
05:55Oh.
05:56Yes.
05:57Yes, it is.
06:01So, bridesmaid, huh?
06:03What happened?
06:04Don't get caught dead in that dress?
06:06Actually, not that bad.
06:08A subtle mauve chiffon.
06:10Dude, really?
06:11Mauve?
06:12Well, I have sisters.
06:13You should have seen their dresses.
06:14Hideous.
06:15Bridesmaid dresses are supposed to be hideous.
06:16Really?
06:17Why?
06:18So that the bride looks more beautiful in comparison.
06:20Ah, see?
06:21Not a woman alive who doesn't think about her wedding day.
06:23Not even Kate Beckett.
06:25Tell me you never tore a picture of a wedding gown out of a magazine.
06:28I've never torn a picture of a wedding gown out of a magazine.
06:33You're lying.
06:34She's lying.
06:35Mm-hmm.
06:36So who's the unlucky bride?
06:45Uh, the name is...
06:49Kira?
06:54Rick?
06:58Rick Castle.
07:00You two know each other?
07:02That would be an understatement.
07:12I read somewhere that you were working with the police, but I never would have expected to...
07:18How long has it been?
07:19Too long.
07:20You look exactly the same.
07:23And you've improved.
07:25You always did know how to turn a phrase.
07:28This is...
07:31So surreal.
07:33It's my wedding day.
07:34And you...
07:36Show up.
07:39Casalini's got something for us.
07:40I'll catch up.
07:44Hmm.
07:45Okay.
07:48What'd you find?
07:49Once I turned her over, I saw these abrasions across her upper back.
07:54They were definitely made before she died.
07:56Probably during the struggle.
07:58Any idea what made them?
07:59No, but there's an odd shape to the wounds.
08:01I'll have a better idea once I get her back to the lab.
08:03Okay.
08:04So how's everything going in the bridal suite?
08:06Not the day they had planned.
08:08Yeah, or the surprise guest.
08:10Apparently Castle has a history with the bride.
08:12Ancient, modern, or sexual?
08:15Seems like all of the above.
08:16You're okay with that?
08:18Yeah.
08:19Why wouldn't I be?
08:21Just keep me posting on the labs.
08:23Mm-hmm.
08:26So what happened to the girl who said that marriage was a Jurassic institution?
08:30She grew up.
08:31Hmm.
08:32Does that mean the groom is a grown-up too, all work and no play?
08:35No.
08:36He plays just enough.
08:37He's a lucky man.
08:40Except today.
08:41All the things you worry about going wrong at your wedding.
08:46Sorry.
08:48Hey, honey.
08:50Greg.
08:51This is Rick Castle.
08:53Rick Castle.
08:54Your ex.
08:57Oh, yes.
08:58No.
08:59Nice to meet you.
09:00Rick's working with the police now.
09:02Do they think the murder's still in the hotel?
09:04Well, that depends on whether the attack was random or someone she knew.
09:08So you think one of the guests could have killed her?
09:10We have to consider every possibility.
09:12You'll have to excuse us.
09:13We have people arriving downstairs.
09:15Of course.
09:16Keira Blaine.
09:17Wow.
09:18I take it she was someone very special.
09:19She's the one that got away.
09:20Could you please tell me your name and relationship to the bride and groom?
09:23Sheila Blaine.
09:24Sheila Blaine.
09:25Mother of the bride.
09:26Keith Murphy.
09:27I'm the brother of the groom.
09:28Lori Hill.
09:29Maid of honor.
09:30Friend of the bride.
09:31Ted Murphy.
09:32Groom's uncle.
09:33Ruby Osiris Schwartzman.
09:34Ruby Osiris Schwartzman.
09:35I was once married to Keira's father's brother's uncle.
09:36Twice removed and boy was that a mistake.
09:38Is the bar open yet?
09:39Do you have any idea who might have killed her?
09:40Of course not.
09:41No.
09:42No.
09:43No.
09:44I heard that Sophie almost didn't come to the wedding.
09:46She called Keira up and tried to back out of being a bridesmaid.
09:47But then she called and said she changed her mind.
09:48I warned Keira.
09:49That girl was too unreliable to be put in a wedding party.
09:51But did she listen to me?
09:52No.
09:53Thank you very much.
09:54Next.
09:55Is everyone right?
09:56I think so.
09:57Wait.
09:58Wait.
09:59No.
10:00Wait.
10:01No.
10:02No.
10:03No.
10:04No.
10:05No.
10:06No.
10:07No.
10:08No.
10:09No.
10:10No.
10:11No.
10:12No.
10:13No.
10:14No.
10:15Wait.
10:16There's a groomsman that's not checked off.
10:18Mike Weitz?
10:19Hmm.
10:20I didn't talk to him.
10:22You?
10:23No.
10:25Mr. Murphy.
10:26Have you seen Mike Weitz?
10:28No.
10:29Actually.
10:30Has anybody seen Mike?
10:31Oh God.
10:32He was with Sophie at the rehearsal dinner.
10:34She's right.
10:35I saw them together in the bar after.
10:36You don't think something happened to him too, do you?
10:39None of the guests have seen Mike since last night.
10:41We checked his room.
10:42The bed's made.
10:43His tux is still hanging in the closet.
10:45And his key card shows his last entry at 2 a.m.
10:472 a.m.
10:48All right.
10:49Any signs of foul play?
10:50No, but his toothbrush and bags are still there.
10:52Have hotel security start searching the premises.
10:54You think we're gonna find another body?
10:56More likely, Mike's our killer.
10:57And he ran off after strangling Sophie.
10:59So put an APB out, get Mike's photos to all airports and train stations.
11:03I'll check back with a wedding guest to see if I can get a clear picture of Mike and Sophie's interactions.
11:07Okay, thank you.
11:08Or we could watch last night's festivities for ourselves on these handy-dandy digital video cameras.
11:19There we are, running for our lives, right?
11:22That's Mike giving the speech.
11:24And that's Sophie looking away from us.
11:26Serpentine down the hallway.
11:27And that's when, that's when Keith decides he's gonna slow down a little bit.
11:36I think they called her in a speech.
11:37Right?
11:38Rude.
11:39I wonder who she's talking to.
11:43I can't see him and Greg are falling over each other.
11:47Pause that.
11:49Does anyone else find it odd that Sophie would leave in the middle of Mike's speech?
11:53Maybe whoever called wanted to meet.
11:55Yeah, but who?
11:56Everyone at the rehearsal dinner is sitting in that room.
11:58According to the time code, that call came in at about 741.
12:01Sophie's cell phone history shows the call came from Hotel Lobby.
12:08Check with the hotel.
12:11See if they have any security cameras covering the phones.
12:17It's perfect.
12:18Thanks.
12:23Wait a minute.
12:24I know this guy.
12:25Uh, Gamble.
12:27Boyd Gamble.
12:28So he's a dealer?
12:29Mostly weed and coke back in the day.
12:31Did a couple years for assaulting another drug dealer who was trying to muscle in on his turf.
12:35Beat him up real bad, too.
12:36Sounds like he's got a bad temper.
12:38Maybe he's graduated to murder.
12:39Great.
12:40Go pick him up.
12:43Was that about Mike?
12:45Uh, no.
12:46Just following up on a lead.
12:57Your dress is lovely, by the way.
12:59Oh, thank you so much.
13:01It's Kate, right?
13:02Yeah.
13:03I feel like I know you a little.
13:05From Nikki Heat.
13:06The dedication.
13:07Oh.
13:08I still read all of Rick's books.
13:10Yeah, well, most of that book is just a result of Castle's overactive imagination.
13:16It's funny that you call him that.
13:19Castle.
13:20When I knew him, he was just Rick.
13:23Rush off his first bestseller.
13:27Well, overactive imagination or not, I know he only dedicates his books to people he really cares for.
13:40Murder?
13:41What are you, nuts?
13:42We know you met Sophie at the hotel, boy.
13:44A couple of hours later, she turns up dead.
13:46You want to tell us how that happened?
13:47She met me in the park.
13:49We had a mutual acquaintance who recommended my services.
13:52She knew I could get her what she needed.
13:54Why didn't you just sell her the drugs and be done with it?
13:56Why did you show up at the hotel?
13:57Because she needed a specialty item.
14:00I didn't have any on me, so I told her I'd call her when I did.
14:03What specialty item?
14:07Flunitrazopam.
14:09Roofies.
14:11Why would a bridesmaid need roofies?
14:13You want to take advantage of a guy knocking him unconscious?
14:15It kind of defeats the purpose.
14:17The best way?
14:18Just ask.
14:21Hello, Sheila.
14:24Richard.
14:26Figures you'd be at the heart of this mess.
14:28Detective Beckett, this is Sheila Blaine, mother of the bride.
14:31So, I guess I didn't end up homeless or teaching at a third-rate college in New Hampshire after all.
14:36There's still time.
14:38I've missed our special talks.
14:40Sheila didn't approve of struggling artists.
14:43You must like Greg, though. He's from money, right?
14:45It was never about the money, Richard.
14:47It was about character.
14:49And you would know that if you had any.
14:54Wow.
14:56Just imagine, if things had worked out, you'd be spending Thanksgivings with her.
15:01Back it.
15:03Okay, great.
15:05They think they found Mike.
15:06Help!
15:08Anybody!
15:10Help!
15:14Mr. Weiss?
15:16Mike?
15:17Where's that bitch Sophie?
15:19I'll kill her.
15:21Timing very poor.
15:23What happened?
15:24A little freak drugged me.
15:29All right, Mike.
15:30Walk me through what happened with you and Sophie last night.
15:34She came on to me is what happened.
15:36Acted all flirty.
15:37Brought me a drink.
15:38A drink spiked with Rufy's.
15:39Yeah, nuts, right?
15:41I mean, who Rufy's a guy?
15:42All the girl has to do is ask.
15:44Hmm.
15:46Did the two of you have history?
15:47No.
15:48I mean, I saw her last year at Greg and Kira's engagement party.
15:53She was definitely the kind of girl you noticed.
15:55But no, I don't think we so much as even talked.
15:58Any idea why she'd want to drug you?
16:00No clue.
16:01Did she seem angry, nervous, or scared?
16:04No.
16:05She seemed determined.
16:08Guess I should have known it was too good to be true, huh?
16:11If you can think of anything else, let us know.
16:12Okay.
16:18What was Sophie up to last night?
16:21She went out of her way to get those drugs.
16:22She definitely had a plan.
16:24To Rufy, Mike, and lock him in a closet?
16:26What kind of a bizarre plan is that?
16:28Maybe.
16:32No, I got nothing.
16:33Oh, dude, catering, grab it.
16:35Oh, I'm so sorry.
16:40What are you guys doing?
16:41I haven't eaten all day.
16:43Oh.
16:44These potato pancakes are incredible.
16:46You know what else is incredible?
16:48How much information we're gonna find
16:50once we start investigating our victim's life.
16:53I want to know everything about Sophie Ronson
16:55from the moment that her plane landed in New York
16:57to the moment she was found dead.
16:59Who she called, what she did, and where she ate.
17:04This is Detective Kate Beckett.
17:05I need a warrant on financials for a Sophie Ronson.
17:07Yeah.
17:08Hey, Sarah.
17:09Yeah.
17:10I need you to check all the taxes.
17:11Is your favorite?
17:12In about an hour.
17:30Couldn't let it go to waste.
17:31How did you find me?
17:34I just figured, what was the one place
17:36where no one would think to look for you?
17:38At a wedding?
17:40At your wedding.
17:42Where's...
17:43Greg?
17:44Right.
17:45He's taking care of things.
17:47He's good at that.
17:49So, if you don't get married,
17:52is it just a regular old cake?
17:55It's still a wedding cake.
17:56It's tiered.
17:57Got flowers.
17:58It's in a ballroom.
18:02If things had gone as planned today,
18:05I would be twirling around on the dance floor
18:08with my husband right about now.
18:12You remember the last time we danced?
18:15Under the clock at Grand Central Station.
18:18You were on your way to JFK to catch a flight to London?
18:21You were supposed to follow me.
18:22You said you needed space.
18:26I didn't mean forever.
18:35So you've done all of this before?
18:38Twice.
18:40And each time, did you think that she was the one?
18:44It seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
18:48But it wasn't, was it?
18:52Some girls would think what happened today is a sign.
18:56They're murder.
18:58And you.
19:02Castle?
19:07We're on our way.
19:08I thought you might need a ride.
19:10I should go upstairs.
19:12They'll be looking for me.
19:21Cake?
19:31No, thank you.
19:42We met in college.
19:44We were together nearly three years.
19:46I didn't ask.
19:48Yes, you were not asking very loudly.
19:52She's different from your ex-wives.
19:55What do you mean?
19:58She's real.
20:00I didn't think you went for real.
20:05Tough breakup?
20:07It was a long time ago.
20:16Hey.
20:17Hey!
20:18You called?
20:19Yes.
20:20I found traces of metal in the abrasions on Sophie's back.
20:23What kind of metal?
20:24I have no idea.
20:25But I sent a sample over to the FBI lab to see if they can narrow down the chemical signature.
20:30We should have the results tomorrow.
20:31If I find the object that made the wounds, you'll be able to match it?
20:34Absolutely.
20:35Great.
20:36Anything else?
20:37You tell me.
20:39What?
20:40Don't what me.
20:41Castle's lost love.
20:43Yeah, what about it?
20:44Girl, I'm gonna smack you.
20:46You work side by side every day.
20:48He writes a sex scene in his book about you that had me reaching for ice water.
20:52And that little Miss Bride shows up.
20:54Don't tell me you're not the least bit jealous.
20:56Oh, please.
20:57You've been inhaling too many autopsy fluids.
20:59Honey, just because you can't see what's going on
21:02doesn't mean everyone else doesn't see what's going on.
21:05Shut up!
21:07Mm-hmm.
21:08I see it.
21:10You may not, but I do.
21:13There's a lot of detail in this love scene.
21:15Aren't you guys supposed to be running background checks?
21:16We are.
21:17What's up?
21:18On the bride.
21:19All day yesterday, I kept feeling like I'd heard the name Kira Blaine before,
21:22and then it hits me.
21:23The dedication of Castle's second book arose forever after.
21:28For Kira Blaine, you make the stars shine.
21:33When I'm not here, do you guys braid each other's hair and debate
21:35who's the coolest Jonas brother?
21:37No.
21:38But it's totally Nick.
21:39Absolutely Nick.
21:40Kevin's a talent.
21:41Yeah, Nick's a cute one.
21:42Joe.
21:47The keycard.
21:48Mike's keycard!
21:49Hotel records indicate that Mike's keycard last accessed his hotel room at 2 AM yesterday morning.
21:57Only he was busy, passed out, in his supply closet with a belly full of roofies.
22:00So who swiped into Mike's room?
22:05Mike said his keycard was missing when he woke up.
22:08Sophie must have stolen it, but why?
22:12Didn't uniforms already search this room when he went missing?
22:17Yeah, Mike said he didn't notice anything out of place.
22:19So, what could be so important in this room it'd be worth the trouble of drugging a man?
22:29Maybe it wasn't this room she was trying to get into.
22:32The only reason to unlock the door adjacent to yours is if...
22:36You knew who your neighbor was.
22:44Maybe Sophie only wanted to get into Mike's room so she could get into this one.
22:48So whose room is this?
22:57Castle.
23:07Sophie's missing earring.
23:11This could be where she was killed.
23:16Hey, what are you doing in my room?
23:28This is crazy. I did not kill Sophie Ronson.
23:31Then how did her earring end up in your room?
23:34You have a chance to come clean here, Greg.
23:36If I were you, I would take it.
23:39I got back to the room around one.
23:42I was pretty drunk.
23:44Next thing I know, it was two in the morning and somebody was in bed with me and they had their hands down my pants.
23:49I thought it was Kira.
23:51I figured she changed her mind about spending the night apart.
23:54But it wasn't. It was Sophie.
23:56And you figured, what the hell, love the one you're with?
23:58No!
23:59Oh, come on, Greg. Sophie's a beautiful girl and you were hours away from strapping on the ball and chain for life.
24:04No!
24:05I love Kira. I would never cheat on her. Especially with Sophie.
24:09Why especially with Sophie?
24:14Had you slept with her before?
24:17Why is he here? He's a writer, not a cop.
24:20Answer the question, Greg. Did you ever sleep with Sophie?
24:23Well, once or twice.
24:26But it was before Kira and I even met and we both knew that it was a mistake.
24:30A mistake that Sophie tried to repeat.
24:32Or maybe she succeeded.
24:34No. When I saw her, I freaked. I shoved her away. She fell on the floor.
24:38That must have been when her earring came off.
24:41Before I could do anything else, she ran out the door.
24:44I mean, it all happened so fast, it didn't even seem like it was real.
24:47Why didn't you say anything when you found out that Sophie was murdered?
24:51Because I knew how it would sound.
24:54Pretty much like it sounds right now. Like a lie.
24:56Okay, that's it. I want him gone.
24:58He's clearly got it out for me because he wants to get back in my fiancee's pants.
25:02I'm not the murder suspect here.
25:04I am done answering questions until he is gone.
25:06You don't make demands here, Greg.
25:08Castle.
25:10Go and see if Ryan and Esposito have come back with the forensics from Greg's hotel room.
25:17Now walk me through what happened again.
25:27Hey, don't you worry about this, Greg. I gotta get your back.
25:33Thanks, Uncle Teddy.
25:38Can't believe you're letting him just walk out of here.
25:42Yeah, well, I don't have enough evidence to convict him.
25:44Well, don't tell me you believe that story. It's like a porn movie gone wrong.
25:48Exactly. And if you were gonna make up a story, would you make up something like that?
25:51So, the guy is a suit, not a storyteller. It doesn't make him any less guilty.
25:55Look, don't get me wrong. He's still our best suspect. I'm just not as ready to convict him of murder as you seem to be.
26:01Is that why you kicked me out of the interrogation?
26:03It was clear that I was gonna get more out of Greg alone. You're just too close to this case to see that.
26:06You mean I'm too close to her?
26:09Yes. And you know how I know that? If you weren't, you'd be all over the possibility that Kira could have killed Sophie.
26:16That's impossible.
26:17See, that's not what Richard Castle would say. He would paint a picture about the night before the wedding.
26:23About how Kira couldn't fall asleep, and so she went down to see Greg, only to find Sophie emerging from his room.
26:30And the thought that her fiancé could cheat on her the night before their wedding was too much.
26:36And so she follows Sophie to her room and confronts her. And when things get violent, Sophie ends up dead.
26:45You have to stay away from her castle until this case is closed.
26:48My mind was closed.
27:14Richard Castle. What the hell are you doing?
27:17doing nothing she's getting married to another man it's just a picture no it's a loaded gun
27:25castle is everybody's wedding like this kira so my bridesmaid's dead uh my fiance might be a murderer
27:35and then there's you you've just been through a bad shock that's all will you come meet me
27:41somewhere i don't think that'd be a good idea please i just need to get out of the hotel for
27:46a little while if i have to listen to my mother judge me anymore i might start taking hostages
27:51i understand completely
27:53how about the roof or a secret roof
27:58that's perfect thank you
28:02oh brother i hope you know what you're doing kiddo
28:08yeah me too
28:15how did you know the door would still be unlocked after all these years
28:29some things never change
28:31we spent so much time up here that summer
28:37you would come over after i got out of class bag of food in one hand and that notebook in the other
28:45and then i would write and you would pretend to study
28:49i wasn't pretending
28:50oh
28:50okay well i just had a hard time keeping my hands off of you
28:56does greg know you're here he told me about sophie in his room
29:04about uh him and sophie before
29:09he said he said he was sorry he didn't tell me
29:15do you believe him
29:19i just don't want to see you get hurt
29:26too late
29:33i missed you rick
29:41i missed you rick
29:43and i didn't realize how much until i saw you yesterday
29:48i missed you too
29:54what did i tell you
30:22what did i or did i not make myself clear
30:28yes
30:30do you know how much it annoys me knowing what you're doing touching things that shouldn't
30:35be touched yanking on things that shouldn't be yanked
30:37whoa no no nobody yanked on anything
30:39billy
30:40and how do you explain this
30:42huh
30:45but don't give me that look i've told you a million times not to mess with my chair
30:48right no
30:51i'm sorry
30:53and it won't happen again
30:56i saw her last night
31:10i know
31:17you had me under surveillance
31:35not you kira
31:36why would you have kira under surveillance
31:38she's a murder suspect
31:39oh no no see sophie's murder was an isolated crime of passion
31:44watching kira after the fact would be a waste of police resources which we both know you would not do
31:49i had to make sure that you didn't do anything stupid which you did
31:54we just kissed that's all that happened
31:56that's all that happened for now
31:58hey the finance
31:59everything okay
32:02yeah
32:03no
32:03okay
32:05financials came in on our groom
32:08no red flags he actually lives pretty modest for someone with a trust fund
32:11anything back from the lab
32:12nothing useful
32:13greg's hair and fiber samples came back negative
32:16other than the earring there's no physical evidence tying him to the murder
32:19so i retraced sophie's steps leading up to the wedding
32:21she checked into the beaumont on friday
32:23but she flew into the city on thursday morning
32:26what was she doing all day thursday
32:27i don't know
32:29i didn't even see her until the rehearsal dinner and
32:31we didn't even talk
32:33i'm afraid i can't help you i uh i barely knew the girl
32:36no
32:37the first time i saw sophie was at the wedding breakfast on friday morning
32:40i have no idea what sophie was doing
32:42but i'm sure it was nothing good
32:45did you know that she called me after the engagement party to ask me to pay for her flight
32:50did you
32:51of course not
32:52i told her
32:53people have to make their own way
32:56so you have no idea what sophie did on thursday
32:58no
32:59but guess what she was doing on friday when i first saw her
33:03what's that
33:03shopping at the hotel store
33:06here she's telling everybody how broke she is and somehow
33:10oh suddenly she has money to burn
33:12between the shoes the dress the hotel and the flight sophie must have dropped three grand on this weekend easy
33:20i don't know how her bank balance is eighteen dollars and her credit cards are maxed out
33:24how much did the drug dealer say she paid for the roofies
33:27two hundred bucks cash
33:28the problem is sophie withdrew her last hundred dollars to fly to new york as far as i can tell
33:33she didn't have the two hundred bucks to give
33:35so who paid for the drugs forget the drugs i've been a bridesmaid six times how did she pay for the dress
33:40okay thank you
33:43so not only did sophie pay for her flight in cash but she also made her last three rent payments in cash as well
33:50any idea where it all came from
33:51not yet
33:52so
33:54six times a bridesmaid huh
33:57you wouldn't happen to have any pictures would you
34:00who feels like watching the little bridal shop surveillance video
34:03is it good
34:04what will i be shocked
34:05oh you definitely did not see this one coming
34:09okay there's sophie
34:16greg's uncle teddy
34:17he said he barely knew her
34:18oh he definitely knew her according to the bridal shop owner when teddy was paying for the dress
34:22sophie told him she wasn't sure if she could go through with it
34:24but teddy said after all he'd done for her she couldn't back out now
34:27now i've heard of brides getting cold feet but bridesmaids
34:31did he pay for the dress in cash
34:32yeah how'd you know
34:33all that cash means that uncle sugar daddy didn't want a paper trail tying him to whatever
34:37sophie was doing for him
34:38yeah but what could it be
34:39and why was it so important for sophie to go to greg's wedding
34:47this is ridiculous
34:49you don't have enough to build a case against me so you go after someone else in my family
34:53we're trying to get to the truth
34:54by hauling in my uncle for god's sakes he barely knew sophie
34:58and yet he paid for her 700 dress and her plane ticket out here
35:01he bought her dress if he barely knew her why would he do that we heard through the grapevine that
35:07sophie might have some trouble making the money to come out here to the wedding
35:10maybe teddy was trying to help her out for us that doesn't explain the 1500 that he paid
35:15her the last three months he was he was paying her for what some kind of deal they got going on we
35:21think it could have something to do with the way she was behaving the night before your wedding yeah
35:25sure uh he paid sophie to roofie a groomsman and then to climb into bed with me look we know how
35:30this sounds yeah it sounds like something out of one of rick's little books little books what would
35:34even be the point of that except to mess up the wedding why the hell would teddy want that that's
35:38what we're trying to find out oh my god for god's sakes next you're going to tell me that he's in love
35:42with kira too what is that supposed to mean you guys you know damn well what it's supposed to mean
35:46no greg i don't if you got something to say to me why don't you just say it i love kira rick
35:53she means the world to me maybe you can't see it maybe you don't care but teddy has been nothing
35:59but supportive of us the whole way he filed our wedding license he helped us write our prenup
36:05he always looks after
36:09what i gotta make a call
36:11do you know how long i've been sitting in here i'm sorry for the wait i hadn't had anything to
36:26you we couldn't decide on a restaurant what do you think this is funny do you recognize these files
36:31mr murphy you went to my office we got a warrant first don't worry look a layman like you couldn't
36:38possibly understand the financial and the legal complications of a state like greg's
36:44i think he just called you stupid greg's grandparents established a trust fund that
36:49he was going to receive on his wedding day and named you executor how am i doing so far and for the
36:55past five years you've been stealing from that fund to fuel your expensive lifestyle a house in the
37:00hamptons a ferrari a pair of top of the line breast implants i'm assuming those are for you though
37:06my personal life is none of your business it is when it leads to a murder you lost a ton of money
37:12in the market everybody did but not everybody had access to greg's trust fund when you ran out of
37:18your own money you started using his burned through almost the entire two million and then when he
37:22called you to tell you he was getting engaged you panicked because you didn't have enough equity to
37:25put it back you realized the only way to avoid detection was to put a stop to the wedding but how
37:30greg was clearly in love with kira kira was in love with him and then you met sophie at the
37:35engagement party and you realized that she was the perfect instrument to sabotage greg's wedding
37:39because she was so desperate for money that's ridiculous the fact that she still carried a
37:44torch for greg made it that much easier to convince her to sneak into greg's room in the middle of the
37:48night with this sophie's video camera we found this in your luggage in the hotel it still has sophie's
37:57fingerprints all over it only she didn't quite get the footage you were hoping for did she
38:03when greg refused sophie's advances she had a change of heart she ran back to her room where
38:07you were there waiting for her what happened mr murphy did she threaten to expose you to tell
38:12everybody what you asked her to do you couldn't let that happen and then you realized there was
38:16another way to sabotage greg's wedding kill a bridesmaid wow what a story and very well told
38:24i might have but that's all it is a story really do you remember how i told you that we went through
38:32your luggage we found this tie tack platinum right did you know that we found trace evidence of
38:42platinum in the wounds in sophie's back you probably didn't even realize you were making them when you
38:47were choking her from behind which is why it never occurred to you to get rid of the one piece of
38:51physical evidence that tied you to the crime we're sorry we kept you waiting
38:59sophie what are you doing come on greg you and me one last time we were good together
39:04no stop it come on it'll be fun no what's the matter with you i'm getting married tomorrow
39:09okay to the woman that i love teddy's plan would have worked too if it weren't for the one thing he
39:18didn't count on greg he's a good man kira he's an honorable man and he loves you
39:30i know and i love him too but that does not mean that i'm not going to think about you from time to
39:44time well you better
39:50of all the murders and all the cities at all the weddings
39:53of all the murders and you walk into mine i'm glad i did
40:07thank you rick
40:20thank you
40:41if any person can show just cause as to why these two may not be joined together
40:46let them speak now or forever hold their peace
40:55by the power vested in me by the state of new york i now pronounce you husband and wife
41:00you may kiss the bride
41:03one step forward
41:05with two steps
