00:25silent efforts to give voice to the voiceless. Speaking after the investiture ceremony at
00:31Istana Nagara, held in conjunction with the King's official birthday celebration, Tan said she felt
00:37deeply moved and grateful. She said the recognition is not just for her, but a symbolic tribute to every
00:43interpreter working quietly to create a more inclusive Malaysia. Tan was among 16 individuals
00:50who received the AMN award at the ceremony. Her journey began not from ambition, but from love,
00:57for her younger sister, who is deaf. Tan served 17 years as a teacher and broke new ground in 1994
01:04by becoming Malaysia's first court sign language interpreter. Her contributions to broadcasting
01:10began in 1985 with appearances on Serlamat Pagi, Malaysia, making her a familiar and vital presence
01:17on RTM news, government PSAs, advertisements and other media used to reach persons with disabilities.
01:25Beyond broadcasting, the Sergamat native also supported corporate organizations by interpreting
01:31for employees with disabilities during briefings, meetings and training sessions.
