Jermall Charlo vs. Thomas LaManna (31-05-2025) Full Fight
Transcript
00:00Chief seconds.
00:15All right, Jamal and Thomas, you received my instructions earlier, so you know what
00:20I expect a clean professional about. Obey my commands and protect yourself at all times.
00:26Jamal, punches right here are not considered low. Punches right here are not considered
00:34low. Touch him up. Good luck.
00:36Lamont, his goal, written across the t-shirt he wore into the ring. He wants to shock the
00:41world. A prohibitive underdog, but that's why they fight.
00:45Indeed, and this is a kid who's been a boxing lifer, comes from a boxing family, his father,
00:50a manager, a promoter. We know Cornflake himself is a regional promoter.
00:55But this is the biggest fight of his career. Let's see what the kid can do.
01:00Charlo reuniting with his first amateur trainer, Highland Williams Sr., who also led him in
01:05the early stages of his career, no longer working with Ronnie Shields. Also has former two-division
01:11champ, one of his favorite fighters, Juwan Guzman, helping out in the corner. And we are
01:15underway. Round one scheduled for 10 at 168 pounds after another long layoff. What kind
01:22of questions need to be answered early for Jamal Charlo, BC?
01:26Well, definitely when we're talking about ring rust, which is in some ways unavoidable, you've
01:31got to be timed. And the timing of that jab has to be a big thing. The footwork, just the comfort level. He showed that a couple of years back in 2023 against Jose Benavidez Jr. that he quickly adjusted to that.
01:42And Abner has jabbed more than a setup. It is a weapon. In fact, he dropped Cornelius Bundridge with a jab when he became a 154-pound champion. And then in one of his better title defenses, he dropped Julian Williams with a jab. So, a very powerful weapon and really one of the best sticks in the sport.
02:01And right on cue right there, Charlo Lanning, a stiff jab to Lomano's face. And yes, that's the key for him. That's the opener for everything. The lead jab and the combinations behind that.
02:13And when Charlo is at his best as well, BC's, when he has that chip on his shoulder, when he brings venom to his punches, when he's mean.
02:20Look, it's the rare, not just fighter, but athlete of professional sports who can almost perform better when they're angry, when they have something to prove. That's what Jamal Charlo has this fight.
02:32And let's say something for Cornflake Lomano. He's pressed Charlo's buttons at times in the buildup. He's been passive aggressive. He's been sort of using the layoff against Charlo.
02:41All that doesn't matter, though, when they touch gloves. And here we are. But Charlo's got to make sure that he reminds everybody that with the unbeaten record, he's still the hitman.
02:51Yeah, Lomano doing total the opposite of what I thought he was going to do in this first round, which was pressure Charlo, make him feel uncomfortable.
03:00He's letting Charlo get off with that jab. And Charlo never in a rush. He's a patient predator.
03:07Has a high IQ, can adjust to whatever his opponent gives him. And you see the effect of that jab already. Look at the redness around the forehead and nose of Lomano.
03:17Yeah, Lomano's got to be careful what comes behind that jab, that stiff right hand, powerful right hand also from Charlo.
03:23Yes, style defined by precision, patience, and punishing intent. A sharpshooting boxer puncher doesn't waste motion. Everything is measured. Everything matters. And as we mentioned, he applies pressure without chasing, using footwork and a high guard defense to stay safe while breaking opponents down. And you know, he was once criticized for his low output, but we did see it against Montiel and against Jose Benavides Jr.
03:49where there's definitely been an uptick in the offensive department in terms of punches thrown.

04:30Downstairs, let's see what he's doing.
04:32Alright, how you feel?
04:33Keep downloading information.
04:35Don't give away nothing.
04:37Nothing free.
04:45Looking good, son.
04:46Keep it up.
04:47One round at a time.
04:51Charlo's trainer, Highland Williams Sr., wants him to continue downloading data.
04:55We thought it would take about three or four rounds to try to find his rhythm, his timing, shed whatever ring rust there might be.
05:02And for LaMana's corner, they don't want him standing in front of Charlo.
05:07Use the jab and move.
05:10And there's the double jab from Charlo.
05:12And we talk about offense.
05:14Well, in that first round, Charlo was 10 of 31.
05:17LaMana, 2 of 24.
05:19Neither landed a power punch.
05:21So, very much a cautious start.
05:24That was a nice jab right there by LaMana.
05:26He's jabbing with Charlo.
05:27And you want to continue to do that if you're LaMana.
05:30I mean, that's his best skill.
05:32Working that jab.
05:33Being active.
05:34Using footwork to turn you.
05:35But also, being smart on the inside.
05:37He should hold against Charlo, in my opinion.
05:39Try to frustrate him.
05:40Frustrate him, yeah.
05:41Try to really just get under his skin like he did in the build-up to this fight at times.
05:45Yeah, you gotta make it an ugly fight at times if you're LaMana.
05:48You gotta make Charlo feel uncomfortable definitely.
05:50And doubt himself.
05:51Again, he's coming back after a year and a half.
05:53We talk about Charlo going last three fights without a knockout.
05:57Of course, now moving up to 168 pounds.
06:01The power coming with him.
06:03And we'll have to wait and see.
06:05Because he's 33-0 with 22 knockouts.
06:08Really, the most comprehensive, the greatest performance of his career
06:11was against Sergey Durbinchenko, the three-time title challenger
06:14and one of the most complete performances of Jamal Charlo's career.
06:18And while LaMana on the run trying to avoid the punishing jab of Charlo,
06:26and Charlo sticks it right in his face.
06:28And that jab has created some swelling around the left eye of LaMana.
06:32Something to monitor.
06:33And he needs to stay off the ropes.
06:35Yeah, and as a fighter, once you start feeling yourself,
06:37once you start seeing that your punches are landing, that's it.
06:40It's over.
06:41And that's what's happening right now.
06:42Charlo is feeling that his punches are landing.
06:45He's not missing at all.
06:46Charlo told us one mistake by LaMana and it will be lights out.
06:50Just over a minute left here in the second.
06:53Ooh.
06:55Great right hand counterpunch right there by Charlo.
07:02I talked about Charlo becoming a busier fighter.
07:05Not the case so far here in the early stages.
07:10Charlo told us about the reunion with his old original trainer,
07:13Arlo Hilliard Senior.
07:15It was about the mentality, the comfortability, the way that they talk to each other.
07:19He did still say the legendary trainer, Ronnie Shields,
07:21they're still on great terms.
07:22They can reunite at any time.
07:24But let's see what this new chapter brings with an old face in the corner there for Jamal Charlo.
07:29He said he wanted to go back to his roots and then the roots of his professional career was as a pretty decent knockout artist.
07:35So, and you know, according to the odds and everyone you ask, I mean, Thomas LaMana, Taylor made for a guy like Charlo to record a knockout win.
07:45Despite LaMana's momentum and the nine fight win streak, nowhere near the level of opposition that Charlo presents here tonight.
07:52Five seconds, stop at the bell.
07:54Time.
07:55Time!
08:03Hey, let me get in.
08:12It's not gonna fall.
08:13Take your time, don't rush yourself, okay?
08:14Let it come to you.
08:15It's got all, got, it's all gonna be based on the jab, okay?
08:19You can start being a little bit busier with it for me, okay?
08:24And now right hand's starting to get through you're talking with a good right hand and the hook
08:40How you feel
08:48Okay, hey
08:54Lamanna's trainer Reggie Lloyd telling his fighter charlotte's too slow
09:01You're letting them have success. He's again
09:04Wait to see. Yeah, I don't know about him being slow. I mean he was able to the counter with the right hand charlotte
09:10Oh, here's an aggressive start by Lamanna
09:16Resets and eats the jab from charlotte
09:18See that looping right hand by Lamanna those are the risks you gotta take you gotta go out there and throw bombs if you're Lamanna
09:26This is a big opportunity for you
09:31In the ultra patient
09:34Stalker charlotte
09:36It's not that charlotte has a simple style but it's the jab setting up the big right hand it is hard to deal with when you figure in his timing his
09:50Explosiveness he's starting to show a little bit of that old hitman here the way he's setting that up
09:54And there's a big right hand that lands
10:02And there's the veteran Lamanna trying
10:04And instead he's dropped for the 5th time in his career
10:075
10:096
10:107
10:118
10:12Walk over to him
10:13Ready to go
10:141
10:151
10:161
10:171
10:181
10:192
10:203
10:211
10:232
10:245
10:251
10:262
10:273
10:282
10:293
10:301
10:312
10:323
10:332
10:342
10:353
10:363
10:382
10:393
10:402
10:413
10:423
10:43Just enough in the right punches
10:57Under a minute now left in the third
11:01Lamana finds himself
11:13That's shouting more throwing if you're Lamana also be careful what you're asking for from the hitman
11:20There's a jab the counter jab by Charlo
11:24Lamana is trying to fight back after going down he's not gun shy isn't running away now resetting utilizing lateral movement
11:34And that's exactly how you cut off the ring you're not just chasing him Charlo's cutting off the ring
11:39putting you behind the ropes and Lamana is just
11:42So survival right now
12:07Wait listen to me you ain't got to look at me just listen to me listen to me
12:12Blake this motherfucker's too slow
12:14He's lazy and you let him take the fight
12:17He's lazy all he's going is just stepping
12:20I need you to pop that fucking jab stepping around
12:23Do you understand me?
12:25I need you to pop that tag
12:27I doubt that here's a replay on how the knockdown happened
12:31The spit jab the perfect timing of the right hand one right hand
12:36He misses with the hook there, but he follows up with the overhand right Charlo
12:41A fighter that has been out for a year and a half and showing no ring rush whatsoever
12:47Beautiful overhand right by Charlo right in the temple
12:52Charlo fighting poised but fighting mean and that is flashes of the old Charlo
12:57Good to see after everything he's been through outside of the ring
13:01To come back like this inside of it beginning of round four scheduled for 10 at 168 pounds
13:07Romana's face definitely showing the receipts of taking the power of Charlo, but he hasn't quit on himself
13:21Still in there trying to plant seeds behind that jab and work back into the fight
13:25Well, I think he's got a pressure he's got to push charlo back
13:30I'm just going backwards and he's giving charlo the momentum letting him get out first
13:38Charlo's stocking lamana just misses with the left hook
13:45There's a stick jab demands for charlo
13:47If you're lamana you want to time that jab
13:58I know it's easier said than done, but if they feel like these too slow they timed the jab
14:03counter punch on top of it
14:09Charlo wanting to set that trap and land that counter right there's the
14:12Oh, that was a good counter behind that
14:27Abner how important at this point of jermal jermal's career do you think it is to get rounds tonight a really important he talked about it in interviews
14:34He said i want some rounds and it seems like he's taking his time there's no rushing charlo
14:39He knows he's landing every single shot and yet the pressure is on him to make a statement with an emphatic victory
14:47Right after yes, there is also, but again, it's barely the fourth round you already got a knockdown you've heard lamana many times
14:55So right now it's just a matter of when to be honest
15:05Under a minute left here in round four
15:09That's what abner said earlier about the twin brothers the charlo twins reuniting they've always been each other's biggest
15:20Fam in a lot of ways, but they can be rivals they can push each other's buttons
15:24It's heartwarming to see the love rekindled between them knowing that they're both on the comeback trail
15:29But was hurt by that shot from charlo 15 seconds left here in the fourth frame
15:42The left hand not just as a jab as a hook
15:45The left it didn't seem like it did it buckled him definitely
16:12Oh
16:17Great knees there and balance from lamana
16:26Nope did not touch the canvas
16:28There is the left knee in the in the very bottom
16:41They are officially calling it a knockdown. That's the sixth
16:46After further review referee mark nelson indicating to us that yes indeed
16:51It is a knockdown so the second knockdown of the fight and the sixth time that thomas lamana has been down in his career
17:01Yeah, we're always so focused on the glove touching the canvas that we i missed that his knee touched the canvas so yeah official
17:08Could have used the expediency on that replay situation earlier this year the big take davis lamont roach matchup
17:18And look at that jab it started with one two jabs now you're double tripled dribbling the jab
17:24Talking about charlo
17:26So lamana's been down in round three due to an overhand right by charlo and then went down in round four due to the left
17:34Look at that pressure punch carlo
17:40He's right in front of you
17:42Not a lot of
17:44Not a lot of punches though
17:46Not a lot of
17:55So far charlo has landed twice as many jabs as lamana has landed punches
18:06No three knockdown roll with that
18:08But he's frustrated
18:10And he's showing the vestiges
18:12Oh
18:18Now the question is the charlo get enough rounds now to fill himself and get lamana out
18:24Charlo
18:25Has dropped lamana in round three four and now five
18:33This isn't just about the comeback of jermal charlo we know there could be big business in the near future
18:38with the likes of the main eventer and Caleb Plant.
18:42So far, though, Big Charlo, it seems to be back
18:45and seems to be handling his business.
18:49Yeah, it doesn't seem like he wants to get him out
18:51in this row, Charlo waiting.
18:53It's frustrating, though, is it for Romano?
19:14Not being able to do anything, really, in this fight.
19:18You get the feeling that one more knockdown
19:25might be enough for the referee to step in here.
19:27Absolutely.
19:30Romano Puri trying to stay on his feet at this stage.
19:34Body shot from Charlo Romano.
19:38Using his feet to try to avoid the attack.
19:41He needs to get off the ropes.
19:43Lateral movement.
19:44And the ever-patient Charlo continues to just measure Romano.
19:50Oh, right hand by Romano brings out a smile from Charlo.
19:54The champ, though, back to Romano.
19:56That's the걸.
19:56That's where this punch out.
20:02One more time.
20:07Yeah.
20:07Down, line for you.
20:08And this replay on the clip right now.
20:13Let's take a stand, man.
20:17Salt.
20:18Flips.
20:19Do you make a favour?
20:20Keep your hand up when you're stepping around?
20:21I don't know.
20:22Huh?
20:23Let's put it, too.
20:24Let's go.
20:25I need to keep some hands up while we're stepping around, all right?
20:30And here, we're going to see a replay on how exactly the knockdown was.
20:36And again, the right hand in between the gloves of LaMana.
20:40Not a clean shot.
20:42It was right on top of the glove, but enough power to get LaMana off balance and knock him down.
20:50And in that last round, the last second, he went hurt.
20:53He was hurt going into that corner of LaMana.
20:55It may just be a matter of time before Jamal Charlo closes the show
21:01and his return here in Las Vegas to a new weight class.
21:05And they are taking a look at Thomas LaMana.
21:09That's a heck of a shirt on the ringside.
21:11Doctor, where's Joe Goosin?
21:13Listen, doctor recommendation, we're stopping the finish line.
21:16Oh, no, no, no, no.
21:25Charlo dropping LaMana three times.
21:31And here at the start of round six, the fight has been stopped.
21:38Charlo returns, improves to 34-0 with his 23rd knockout win.
21:44Listen, even though I don't agree on the stoppage, it was just a matter of time, really.
21:50It was Charlo landing, jabs, right hands, power shots every given moment.
21:56And it was just a matter of time, LaMana was already hurt.
22:00And you can see from Charlo a little bit of frustration.
22:13He perhaps wanted to go a little bit more rounds.
22:16But then again, a great performance.
22:18A little bit of ring rust, but not enough to catch my eye and say,
22:21you know what, he didn't look good.
22:23Charlo is back.
22:24And he made a statement tonight.
22:26It's showtime, and there's no better way to win on boxing than with DraftKings Sportsbook.
22:38This is the home of boxing bets.
22:41So step into the ring and go the distance with this unbeatable offer.
22:44Place all kinds of bets, live or before the bout,

22:50Download the app, enter the promo code, and get in on the action.
22:57The crown is yours.
23:01So Jamal Charlo doing his part to set up that grudge match later this year
23:06against Caleb Plant, dropping Thomas LaMana three times before the fight is stopped.
23:13Here before we got round six going.
23:20Yeah, during the fight, really, there was no urgency of getting a knockout stoppage just yet from Charlo.
23:35But again, here we see a demonstration of the power jab that he is known by.
23:41Stiff jab in the right hand.
23:42Opening up the guard in the overhand right that wobbled there and got LaMana off balance.
23:50There he is again, hurt.
23:52And it's every right hand that Charlo was throwing that was hurting LaMana.
23:58LaMana attempted to throw and land an overhand hook,
24:02but it was him that took a hook to the face.
24:05He got buckled there, a straight right hand in between the gloves to get LaMana down off balance.
24:13And here is where the referee said it was enough.
24:16Yeah, on the doctor's recommendation, much to the chagrin of Thomas LaMana,
24:20his nine-fight win streak is history.
24:23Suffers his sixth defeat as we look at the CompuBox stats at the time of the stoppage.
24:28There's nothing really jumping out at you here, Abner, when you look at the numbers,
24:32but Charlo dropping LaMana three times and getting his 23rd knockout win.
24:38Let's go to Jimmy Lennon Jr. to make it official.
24:45Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time of one second of round number six.
24:50A referee in charge, Mark Nelson stops the contest upon advice of the ringside physician.
24:55He is the winner by way of technical knockout and still undefeated,
25:01Jamal Hitman Charlo!
