June 01, 2025 (ANI): Dutch politician extended his support to India’s Social Media influencer Sharmishta Panoli. “Free the brave Sharmishta Panoli!”, Dutch MP Geert Wilders posted on ‘X’ on June 01. He also shared a poster written “All eyes on Sharmishta”, with his post triggering row over issue. Invoking spirit of ‘freedom of speech’, Dutch politician also appealed PM Modi to “help her”. Kolkata court, on May 31, remanded social media influencer for 14-day judicial custody. She was arrested by Kolkata Police from Gurugram, Haryana on Friday night. She has been accused of hurting religious sentiments through her social media post. However, Panoli deleted the video and issued an ‘unconditional apology’ on May 15. On Saturday, she was produced before Kolkata’s Alipore Court, which remanded her in 14-day judicial custody. This came after several unsuccessful attempts to serve legal notices to her: Kolkata Police. Panoli’s advocate Md Samimuddin told ANI that they have moved her bail application before the court. Meanwhile, posting on X, Kolkata Police refuted ‘factually incorrect’, ‘misleading’ narratives of ‘unlawful’ arrest. Authorities urged the people to refrain from sharing unverified or speculative content.
