Tesla will reportedly launch its Robotaxi service in Austin on June 12, according to a Bloomberg source. CEO Elon Musk confirmed Tesla is testing autonomous Model Ys without remote operations, using only an onboard engineer. The company plans to start the service with over 10 Model Ys before introducing its Cybercab. Musk said Tesla has been testing self-driving Model Ys on public roads in Austin for several days without any incidents. He reiterated that the vehicles could eventually drive directly from the factory to customers' homes. Tesla’s camera-based approach to autonomy will go head-to-head in Austin with Waymo’s LiDAR-powered fleet, which now delivers over 250,000 rides weekly across major U.S. cities.
