00:04I'm Kirsty and I'm the owner of Shelby's Dog Bakery.
00:08It's a local dog bakery based just outside of Glasgow that specialises in doggy birthday cakes.
00:13I get into this because my dog Shelby who is a 10 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier
00:19was so so fussy with his treats and I just tried to bake a wee simple dog birthday cake
00:26and then it just kind of turned into this.
00:27Your dog's your life, it's your baby like and they're only here for a short time
00:32so you need to treat them as best as you can like and do every little wee thing that would
00:37make them just feel loved like your child so like that's why we started doing the dog birthday cakes
00:42just so that if you would give your child a dog birthday cake why not give your dog a dog birthday cake.
00:47I actually studied doing a wee nutrition course online just to learn what dogs could have and
00:53what they couldn't have knew anyway like what Shelby could have and what you couldn't have and then
00:58we just turned into like a sweet treat menu so rather than it being like an everyday treat it's something
01:05that's safe for them to have like on special occasions. So in the birthday cakes they're made of
01:12wholemeal and honey that is the base of my cakes which the dogs go absolutely daft for and then the biscuits are all grain free and they're made of gram flour, oat milk, honey and then they're
01:14flavoured with either cheese or peanut butter so it just really depends what preference your dog's got because dogs are fussy and that's why we started it because Shelby was the fussiest dog ever and I couldn't get them to eat any treats.
01:34We are looking forward to collaborating with Barkglove at SWG3 in July so that we can bring our existing customers into SWG3 for a new experience and for us to obviously showcase our products and meet new customers as well.
01:50Everybody likes to see their dog happy, that is in a nutshell like everybody likes to see their dog happy and there's nothing more, oh I can't even explain it, there's nothing nicer than seeing a dog comes to my stall.
02:02And see when a dog comes to my stall and like gets one of these wee cakes and the owner goes to the side and you're sitting going, oh no, I hope the dog's got to like this, I hope the dog's got to like this and they go crazy and it's actually just so nice to see, it's heartwarming almost.
02:18And as an owner, I've had owners messaging me and saying I've just gave my dog their birthday cake whether it's their first or last, I know that's quite emotional but they just sit and cry giving their dog their birthday cake because it's the most heartwarming thing you can do for your dog is just treating them like a wee human.
02:34All dogs are my favourite but let's face it Staffies, Staffies are just aye, we had a Staffie from when I was 23 to 33 and it was the hardest thing losing her and then when we got Shelby, we got Shelby and we still had Kia and oh my, they're just amazing, they're amazing breeds, they love people, they love kids.
02:56Yeah, so Staffies, I do love old dogs but Staffies have got my heart.
