00:00For Swansea City finishing in mid-table in the championship represents probably a mediocre season for a club that was once one of the mainstays in the Premier League and certainly had a number of years in the top flight of English football and yet they find themselves now following the relegation a few years ago struggling to go up or down in the championship and being stuck in that middle part of the division.
00:25That can be a graveyard for so many teams who are once of the upper echelons in the English football pyramid but it's important to try and think of some positive moments that they've had in the season just gone despite it not being a remarkable or memorable season by any stretch of the imagination.
00:42So let's go now to our Wales sport correspondent Charles Hague-Jones.
00:47Charles, when it comes to Swansea City who've had, as I say there, a relatively average campaign in the championship, picking their best moments of the season is probably hard to think about and hard to come by given the fact that they haven't really achieved anything they would have liked to at the start of the season.
01:04But is there anything you can come up with in terms of what, you know, just little stand-up moments that might inspire them going forwards or just nice little memories to look back on after what was, as I say, a pretty average campaign for a club that probably could be doing an awful lot better with the size of their stadium and the backing that they know they can get and they have had when they've definitely been in the Premier League in their previous campaigns.
01:29Yes, looking at Swansea City's best moments from the 2024-25 season, you know, firstly, I think we have to look at some of their notable victories at the very, very start of the season.
01:453-0 win over Preston North End was fantastic. 3-1 victory against Gillingham in the EFL Cup in August as well.
01:51They had a great start to the season, Swansea City. They're really flirting around with the playoff places and up the table very early.
01:59Obviously, couldn't hang on to that in the end. But then Alan Sheehan, I think, is the standout for me. His impact as manager was absolutely fantastic.
02:0923 points from 11 matches, you know, at the end of the day, before he came in, before February, that they were on a torrid run.
02:19They couldn't score a goal. They couldn't win a game at all. And they obviously lost in the South Wales derby.
02:24And you thought maybe suddenly they're looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone and Alan Sheehan's come in.
02:31He's the saviour of Swansea City's season, really. 23 points from 11 games. That's a playoff form.
02:36That's a form that if they were flirting around the sort of mid-table side, they could have definitely ended up in the top six.
02:43Obviously, not meant to be, but so much positivity to take from Alan Sheehan's, you know, short-lived spell.
02:49So far, obviously, becoming a full-time head coach as well. And then you have to look away from the picture as well.
02:57I mean, the involvement with fans and the young fans involved with the future of the club and their match days activities.
03:06Swansea are absolutely massive on the community side of things. And they got that spot on throughout the season.
03:11There were some fantastic events and, you know, moments for the young Swansea fans to come together and really enjoy what it's all about.
03:20So that was a great, great highlight for the season.
03:24You know, you have to look at some real big moments.
03:29And for me, bouncing back from the derby defeat, bouncing back from the position they were in, you know,
03:34suddenly looking at a possible relegation battle, Alan Sheehan is 100% the standout this season for Swansea City.
03:42Coming in, making a huge difference, you know, take nothing away from the impact he made, the impact he had on this side.
03:51He was, you know, he came in and he's not had an amazing amount of managerial experience.
03:57Taking in as interim manager, it was a massive job on his hands and he had to get the Swansea fans on board.
04:01I think that's what has really stood out to me. You know, the Swans, they seem together again as a club.
04:08They seem like they've got massive ambitions for the future.
04:11Obviously, Luka Modric and the ownership situation coming in, especially in the back end of it.
04:18And, you know, Alan Sheehan can hopefully galvanise this group of players again and take them into the season.
04:24If they can start the way they started this season, if they can start the new one the same way.
04:28You know, I think people will certainly be looking at Swansea as possible, you know, playoff contenders and even promotion contenders above that as well,
04:37because the foundation's there. It's just whether they can tap into that potential in South Wales.
04:43So, let's take what you guys can just do that too.
