00:31A federal appeals court temporarily reinstated U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs after a federal trade court had blocked them a day earlier.
00:41Trump had invoked an emergency powers law to impose import taxes from almost every country in the world.
00:47A federal trade court ruled that Trump overstepped his presidential authority to impose such broad levies under the law.
00:54Trump's administration had appealed the decision, and a court of appeals have now granted an emergency motion and temporarily halted the order from the trade court.
01:04The decision provides the White House with additional time to defend the legality of the president's efforts to reshape global trade relations.
01:12Chinese students in the U.S. are facing an uncertain future after Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared that some of their visas will be revoked.
01:26The policy will target individuals studying so-called critical fields and those with ties to the Chinese Communist Party,
01:34effectively stripping them of the right to pursue education at U.S. universities.
01:39The Chinese government has called the decision unreasonable, stating that it's lodged a protest with the U.S. administration.
02:01The presence of Chinese students studying overseas has been a long-standing source of tension in U.S.-China relations.
02:08During Trump's first term, China's Ministry of Education warns students about increasing U.S. visa rejections and shorter durations.
02:18China is the second-largest country of origin for international students in the U.S., behind only India.
02:25In 2023 to 2024, they made up roughly a quarter of all foreign students in the U.S.
02:31The U.S. flag was hoisted outside of the long-shuttered ambassador's residence in the Syrian capital Damascus.
02:43The residence has been closed since 2012 after a wave of protests against the government of strongman President Bashar al-Assad
02:50was met with violent resistance spiraling the country into civil war.
02:54And although the U.S. has yet to officially reopen its embassy in Syria, the move signals a warming of relations between Washington and Damascus.
03:03The U.S. ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, who was recently appointed a special envoy to Syria, visited Damascus on Thursday to inaugurate the residence.
03:12On his visit, he also met with Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara and attended the signing of an agreement between U.S.-Qatari and Turkish companies
03:20for the redevelopment of the country's electricity grid.
03:23The consortium of companies will develop four combined cycle gas turbines as well as a 1,000-megawatt solar power plant.
03:31These projects, when completed, are expected to supply over 50 percent of Syria's electricity needs.
03:38The new deal comes after U.S. President Donald Trump has made a surprise decision to embrace the new Syrian government.
03:44Earlier this month, Trump announced the lifting of decades-old U.S. sanctions on Syria as he embarked on a tour of the Middle East
03:51to help the country's financial recovery.
03:57Russian overnight drones on Ukraine have killed three people and injured 27 across nine regions,
04:05including Sumy, Kharkiv and Donetsk.
04:08Local law enforcement reported more than 2,000 strikes along the front line and in residential neighborhoods,
04:17causing damage to buildings and homes.
04:19As always, one, two, and all, three.
04:22And as it started, one for one, one for one, and one for one, and until the 13th time.
04:27And the 13th time flew, flew, flew, and it didn't explode.
04:30It just fell.
04:32Ukrainian air defenses claim to have intercepted 56 of the drones,
04:3710 with firepower and 46 using radar or electronic warfare.
04:43An explosion was also reported in Russia's Stavropol,
04:47which the region's governor says killed the city's deputy mayor, Zor Gertseev.
04:53The latest strikes follow a three-day wave of aerial attacks by Moscow,
04:58during which Russian forces launched more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles across Ukraine.
05:07Israel says it plans to build 22 new Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank,
05:15which will include the legalization of outposts already established by Israeli settlers
05:21without official Israeli government approval.
05:24The Israeli anti-settlement group, Peace Now, says the proposal includes legalizing 12 outposts,
05:32building nine new settlements, and reclassifying a neighborhood within a settlement as a separate one.
05:39The watchdog called the announcement the most extensive move of its kind since the 1993 Oslo Accords,
05:47which launched the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
05:51The West Bank is home to three million Palestinians, living under Israeli military rule.
05:58Most of the international community view Israeli settlements there as illegal
06:03and an obstacle to resolving the decades-old conflict.
06:06Despite this, Israel has accelerated settlement construction in recent years
06:12and has, since the outbreak of war in Gaza, escalated house demolitions and land seizures in the territory,
06:20forcing many Palestinian families to evacuate.
06:23The driver who injured nearly 80 people in central Liverpool has been charged with grievous bodily harm
06:35with intent in addition to six other serious counts.
06:39The driver, identified as a white 53-year-old British man named Paul Doyle,
06:43rammed into a crowd of Liverpool football club fans who were celebrating their team's Premier League title.
06:48The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Merseyside Police to charge Paul Doyle,
06:56aged 53, from West Derby, Liverpool, with offences of dangerous driving,
07:02causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,
07:09and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
07:12This is following a complex and ongoing investigation
07:15into an incident in Water Street, Liverpool, on Monday, the 26th of May, 2025.
07:23Police say 79 people were injured,
07:25with at least 50 of them treated at hospitals,
07:28with victims ranging from 9 to 78 years of age.
07:32Seven people still remain in hospitals seeking treatment,
07:35but are in stable condition.
07:38Officials say they believe Doyle dodged a roadblock
07:40by tailing an ambulance responding to a report of a person in cardiac arrest.
07:46Merseyside Police investigators say the driver is believed to have acted alone
07:50and are not investigating terrorism as a motive.
07:59Strong winds and heavy rains over the past two days
08:02have caused severe flooding in various parts of Romania.

08:09from Covasna and Brasov counties in central Romania
08:12and Batosani in the northeast.
08:16On Thursday, floods were threatening to destroy an old salt mine in Pride in central Romania.
08:22The mine hosts beautiful galleries and a religious chapel
08:25and is an important tourist attraction selling half a million tickets annually.
08:29One of the protection dams in the Pride salt mine
08:33built to protect the tourists and mining areas collapsed on Thursday.
08:37Romanian authorities are waiting for water levels to decrease
08:40to begin carrying out consolidation work.
08:43Of course, there are a lot of people who have been evacuated
09:15The Hungarian government has already offered to assist
09:19in the salt mine's restoration efforts.
09:22The crisis started after heavy rains caused cracks
09:24to appear in the riverbed protection wall,
09:27shielding the mine from the Corand River, which passes above it.
09:30The water infiltrated the gallery networks of the mine,
09:33compromising its stability and the safety of underground facilities.
09:36Authorities say the mine is not under any imminent danger,
09:41but if water stays in the galleries,
09:43salt pillars could start to dissolve.
