00:00Russia launched over 100 drones into Ukraine in overnight attacks and has not responded to Kiev's call for a 30-day ceasefire.
00:11An American-Israeli soldier held hostage for more than 19 months in Gaza was released by Hamas.
00:20The US and China agreed to lower tariffs for 90 days on Monday as the world's two biggest economies attempt to cool an escalating trade war.
00:30Russia launched over 100 drones into Ukraine in overnight attacks, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Monday, killing at least one person in Sumy.
00:41The attacks come after Kiev and several of its European allies called on Russia to implement an unconditional 30-day truce starting on Monday, which the Kremlin has not responded to.
00:52Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he's ready to meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, face-to-face in Turkey on Thursday, but reiterated Ukraine's proposal for the ceasefire to start before the negotiations.
01:07Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has refused to say who might travel to Istanbul from the Russian side.
01:13Now, Germany is warning Moscow to respond to the ceasefire proposal by midnight or face new sanctions.
01:19Peskov reacted to the remarks, saying that ultimatum language in the talks with Russia is unacceptable.
01:32Poland has accused Russia of being behind an arson attack that destroyed a shopping center in Warsaw last May.
01:39Poland's foreign minister, Radoslav Sikorsky, said that evidence was found proving Russia's involvement and ordered the closure of the Russian consulate in Krakow.
01:48This was a huge fire of a shopping mall in Warsaw in which, just by sheer luck, nobody was hurt.
01:59This is completely unacceptable.
02:02So the Russian consulate will have to leave.
02:07They'll have one more.
02:09And if these attacks continue, we'll take further action.
02:13The shopping center that burned down housed some 1,400 shops, many of which were run by Warsaw's Vietnamese community.
02:23Russia's foreign ministry said that there would be an adequate response to the consulate's closure.
02:28Sikorsky already ordered the closure of the consulate in Poznan last year in response to acts of sabotage he blamed on Moscow.
02:35There is now only one Russian consulate left in Poland in the city of Gdansk.
02:40The second intergovernmental summit between Italy and Greece started in Rome on Monday.
02:53Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Emironi welcomed Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Michiotakis and his delegation to Villa Doria Pamphili.
03:01Discussions were supposed to center on critical issues, including migration, the economy, and European Union security and defense.
03:08The international crisis in Ukraine and the Middle East are also high on the agenda of the two leaders' talks.
03:16The program includes delegation meetings, a bilateral between the leaders, an exchange of agreements and a joint declaration.
03:24This is the second such high-level meeting for the two Mediterranean countries.
03:28The first was held in Corfu in 2017.
03:31An American-Israeli soldier held hostage for more than 19 months in Gaza was released by Hamas on Monday.
03:46Aidan Alexander, who is believed to be the last living U.S. citizen held captive in Gaza,
03:51was handed over to Red Cross representatives in the enclave southern city of Khan Yunus.
03:55Israel's minister for diaspora affairs and combating anti-Semitism told Euronews that Israel will not change its stance and strategy on Gaza.
04:06We know about 21 hostages that we know that they are alive.
04:14We have three that we have no signs that they are neither killed or neither alive.
04:21So we are not certain.
04:24And then the rest are considered to be not alive.
04:28That is the current situation.
04:30Now with Aidan Alexander, we are going down to 20.
04:35Hamas could have laid down their weapon, bring back the hostages, and the war could have been ended.
04:42It did not happen.
04:43So we need to continue the war to dismantle Hamas.
04:47Hamas is calling the release of Alexander a goodwill gesture towards the Trump administration
04:52that could lay the groundwork for a new ceasefire with Israel.
04:56The Israeli government insists that his release was possible due to the military pressure on Hamas,
05:01which it is not planning to ease up.
05:04We cannot afford ourselves another October 7.
05:08We cannot afford ourselves a situation in which Hamas is rebuilding its military capabilities.
05:14We cannot allow living next to Hamas.
05:18We tried for more than a decade.
05:21We have tried to see maybe with economic benefits, with some sorts of agreements,
05:30we can live nearby Hamas and to keep some, let's say, balance,
05:35and they will build their own state in Gaza.
05:39And we saw what happened.
05:41Since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed in mid-March,
05:45Israel has taken control of further territory in the Strip,
05:48which now amounts to roughly 50 percent of Gaza.
05:51The U.S. and China agreed on a temporary tariff suspension on Monday after talks in Geneva
05:59aimed at de-escalating the trade dispute between the two countries.
06:03Starting Wednesday, 14th of May, U.S. tariffs on China will fall to 30 percent,
06:08while U.S. goods exported to China will be subject to duties of 10 percent for 90 days.
06:13U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson said the two sides seek more balanced trade,
06:19while neither wants an embargo or decoupling.
06:22The consensus from both delegations this weekend is neither side wants a decoupling.
06:31And what had occurred with these very high tariffs, as Ambassador Greer said,
06:37was the equivalent of an embargo, and neither side wants that.
06:43We do want trade.
06:46We want more balanced trade.
06:48And I think that both sides are committed to achieving that.
06:53We would like to see China open to more U.S. goods.
07:00Future talks will involve Bessent, Trade Representative Jemisin Greer,
07:04and Chinese Vice Premier Thule Fung.
07:07The deal eases tensions following a series of tariff hikes,
07:10announcements by U.S. President Donald Trump in April.
07:12We will talk about this.
07:13Analysts said the truce was better than what they expected
07:16and a significant de-escalation likely to boost trade.
07:19We're going to deal with China.
07:21Previous high tariffs had already begun to impact bilateral trade between the two countries,
07:25which last year topped 595 billion euros.
07:30While U.S. consumers and factories rely on China,
07:33the trade war still prompted an IMF downgrade of Chinese economy last month.
