Dairy Australia's Eliza Redfearn says seasonal pressures, tight margins, and industry shifts are driving farmers away from expansion and toward smaller-scale investments.
Transcript
00:00What we're seeing in our 2025 National Dairy Farmer Survey reports is that the challenges
00:05of this season on farm margins, weather, and also from the changes in the processing industry
00:13can really weight on the farmer sentiment within the dairy industry, and it's negatively
00:18impacted how farmers are feeling about both their businesses and the industry as a whole.
00:23So what we're seeing is that the data is showing that there's a lower percentage of farmers
00:30looking to expand their businesses, so 18% of farmers' businesses nationally are in an
00:36expansion phase now.
00:37And we're seeing shifts in how farmers are seeing their investment intentions, so looking
00:43more towards minor to moderate scale investments as opposed to larger scale ones.
